Slow Cooker Roast Beef (Megan style)
I put about an inch of water in the bottom of my 4 quart crock pot. Then I place my seared and salt and peppered roast in the bottom. Top with half a stick of butter, onions, and a jalepeno or Hungarian wax pepper. I put it on high for the first 2 hours to get everything hot, and then on low for the last 4-6 hours. Then I remove the broth to make gravy, discarding the pepper and onions.

It is so cute watching you stop Miller from tumbling over while you are reading to the other kiddos. It reminded me of myself many years ago when my kids were little. I am probably not your typical subscriber as I am a 66 year old woman. But, I love watching the simplicity of your life. As a Christian Grandma, I so enjoy watching how you are raising your children. You bring a smile to me every week. God bless you and your sweet family.

Sounds like your grandma was a wonderful person. I lost my grandmother in 2016 from a sudden heartattack while in church. She was the pastor’s wife and pianist for over 60 years and was sitting behind the piano letting another lady play this night and all of sudden she grunted, slumped over and was gone. Not a bad way to get out of here if you ask me. She was also the type of lady who ate while she was cooking and never sat down. We truly do have a great heritage in our grandmothers.

Yes, I have had whoopie pies myself and I have made them. I have had chocolate, red velvet, oatmeal, chocolate raspberry, chocolate peanut butter, and pumpkin. I sell these in my shop here in VA and get them from Sunnyside up in Lancaster. :) Your grandmother sounded like a lovely person and I am sure she was proud of you and all you have done. The best thing about grandmas is the influence they have on us. I know mine did as yours did. Blessings.

I think a lot of that is because in their day, and mine as well, growing up in the 70s and 80s, there was a lot more cooking from scratch. This channel is a nice reminder. We would cook a lot on Saturdays, and freeze it. That's mostly what we ate on. If we had leftover scraps, it all was thrown in a frying pan the next Saturday, and called Ching Chow. That was my grandpa's idea. My paternal grandparents married in the early 30s, so that's one of the many depression era *gourmet* meals they created. Food was not wasted.

My mom passed from a brain aneurysm rupture at the age of 54. It was definitely not expected but in all bad things that happen, there is a reason and as hard as it is not having her here (I was 26 when she passed) I know she is in a better place now. I live in MD, about 2.5 hours away from Lancaster and Sheetz always has whoopee pies as well as other stores in our area. Our area is so close to the PA and WV line and we are seeing more and more mennonite families in the area. I've always loved watching your videos 💙 not mennonite but just drawn to your faith and laid back way of life as it is similar to ours in some ways.

Megan, sorry about your grandma's passing. You made me remember my grandma💝She enjoyed cooking and baking and made many whoopie pies in her life! She excelled at her passion, too!
We made whooopie pies at home, as well. The kinds I remember are chocolate, pumpkin, and oatmeal (Little Debbie Oatmeal Cookies). Oh yes, everything was better with browned butter!😉 And roast and more roast. So easy for my busy mom to get a roast out of the freezer the night before, then place it in the oven the next morning, and add potatoes and carrots closer to the meal.

You're also doing great as a mom & a You Tube content creator. I love watching you & learning from you. I've always been interested in the Mennonite & Amish way of life & I love learning from someone that is real instead of the Hollywood versions.

From someone who does not enjoy cooking, I love to watch cooking shows. I felt like your video was a wonderful cooking show. You make cooking look so effortless all the while with 3 children in tow! Thank you for sharing your recipe ideas. I have never had a whoopie pie so may have to try baking them! I am so very sorry for the loss of your grandmother. I love how you speak of her and honor who she was. She sounds like a wonderful woman who lived a beautiful life. I was very close to my grandmother, who had very little materialistic but was rich in her love. She loved us all unconditionally and lived to be 94 years old. I too aspire to be like her and love on our grandchildren and pray for our children and grandchildren like she did. Thank you for taking us along in your beautiful day!! You INSPIRE!!!!!!

I made whoopie pies for a Valentine's treat about 10 - 12 years ago and my kids loved them so much I have to make them every year for Valentine's Day. It gets tricky now because my 9 year old's birthday is Feb 19 but we still have to have whoopie pies and then birthday cake 5 days later or it wouldn't be V day. The recipe I found in a magazine used a powdered sugar frosting with store bought marshmallow cream added and I had no idea there was another way. I may try your frosting next year.

Love Whoopie pies! I am also a Lancaster County girl and used to work in a bakery through college. We made whoopie pies every morning to have out and ready for the men who came into the diner after milking or on the way to work. My favorite is definitely chocolate with PB icing!

Megan, I am so sorry for the loss of your Grandma. ❤ On a side note, I LOVE Whoopie Pie's!! My Mom made these when I was growing up and I have made them different times, but not often enough. I really need to make these again. 😋 I grew up in Ohio, in Amish Country, and Whoopie Pies can be found there as well. 😊

I've started making my roast in the Crock-Pot a day ahead. They slice so much better when they've been in the frig overnight. I slice then reheat in the microwave so it doesn't dry out. Will try your method--looks good!

I had a browned butter whoopie pie in a little bakery in either Goshen or Shipshewana (I can’t remember which), and it was delectable!

So sorry for the loss of your grandma! We are a one pot family here so in the crockpot with the roast would be the carrots, onions, potatoes, and peppers. We love to spice with garlic and Dale's seasoning.

I'm so sorry for the loss of your grandmother. I consider myself lucky that I still have one living grandparent, who, incidentally, turns 90 today. Sounds like you had a great relationship with her and you can share those memories with your children as they grow.

In my PA hometown of Johnstown Whoopie Pies are called Gobs. I guess it refers to the gobs of delicious icing in the middle. You were blessed to have a loving Grandma to inspire and be proud your own hard work. May God rest her Soul.

We are Catholic and we were brought up eating that way!!! I love to do pot roasts in the crockpot though so much easier to do it all in one!! Potato’s carrots and onions for taste!! Oh and of course some spices. They make crockpot packets but not a big fan so much salt rather do my own spices

I remember learning how to make whoopie pies at an all-girls Jewish sleep away camp in Maryland! maybe since it was near the PenMar border we got the Mennonite influence :) I also went to college in Maine, so I can confirm they know their whoopie pies!

I’m a mother to 4 children 6 yrs old o 9 months old and love watching you homemaking videos and loved the part where you’re reading to the kids and holding up Miller. Children are such a blessing! I don’t have any Christian Mom friends where I live in a rural community in Kansas and we homeschool so I get some encouragement seeing you raise your children in a similar lifestyle to our family.

I make a 7up jello salad! My recipe is different then yours. I use either raspberry jello or black cherry whichever our local grocery store has. Boiling water reduced down from the directions on the box. Then I add 7up allow to thicken then I add a can of crushed sweetened pineapple and then crushed walnut! Stir good and allow to finish sitting up! I always double this recipe! It’s delicious! I got the recipe from my oldest sister and I think of her every time I make it. Unfortunately we lost her at the age of 61!

Hi Megan, I used to work for a bakery in British Columbia in Canada where we sometimes made whoopie pies. The owner of the bakery was Mennonite! That is where I learned what a whoopie pie was and how to make them! I love them and you have reminded me about them! It has been too long since I have had one.
