People say that it doesn't need the "Potter Theme" (which actually is Hedwig's Theme, you muggles), but I think it's great to hear it at the beginning, it reminds us that this story is and will be part or the Harry Potter Universe and also make you feel really nostalgic. Besides it's not over used, it's just a little magical touch... And for the beginning of the film (Warner logo) it just fits perfectly.

I agree with your points, but at the same time I get the criticisms too. When the first Harry Potter trailers came out with Hedwig's Theme, it was brand new and instantly transported everyone. It made HP completely special from everything else at the time, it didn't need a theme that everyone already knew to make you feel good. So starting out with it right off the bat for Fantastic Beasts, it feels a tiny bit like cheating. Can the music and the story live up to Harry Potter? Maybe, maybe not, but using Hedwig's Theme invites comparisons. It is so perfect for Harry Potter that it automatically makes you hope that the new soundtrack will have something just as iconic for Fantastic Beasts. If Fantastic Beasts is truly great it should have its own identity.
I love how "Hedwig's Theme" plays at the very beginning, almost as a way of reintroducing audiences to the Wizarding World, and then the rest of the score is brand new music.

James Newton Howard nailed it. He's not John Williams or Hans Zimmer but he sure is up there with this masterpiece
I'd argue that the reason why Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were masterful works were more due to the James Newton Howard's contribution. Did you see what happened with The Dark Knight Rises? Still a good album but nowhere near as complete or whole as the first two. It lacked maturity. So basically, I think Zimmer is great but JNH is just as good if not better. John Williams is a different story though. Haha.
Lmao, dude. Zimmer on his best day couldn't even TOUCH James Newton Howard on his worst. "The Last Airbender," alone, is superior in every way [from the orchestrations to the actual writing quality] to anything, yes anything, that Zimmer's done in the last 20 years or so. The CORRECT statement is: Hans is an okay composer, but he's no James Newton Howard much less a John Williams. And no one in the last half century or so [besides arguably Williams or Goldsmith] comes close to someone like Miklos Rozsa or Max Steiner.
Actually, I prefer Howard to Zimmer most of the time.
No, Zimmer's a great composer if we're talking about his output from the 90s to the early 2000s. Interstellar was very effective in the film, I don't want to put down that score or anything but it sure as hell isn't on par with Newton Howard's efforts for, as an example, "Maleficent." Inception is only "one of the best scores of the last 10 years" if you haven't heard any film music whatsoever besides guys like Zimmer, Jablonsky, Junkie XL, etc. It was good when it came out, but since too many composers [and even Zimmer] have recycled that sound and style to Death.

And J.K still has her magic, the obscurus storyline ties in with arianda (albses sister) so well, there are so many storylines set up and interesting ways to tie trilogys toghether. This is the reason I love J.K., the thought and effort that goes into her story, the twists and reveals is magical!

I remember going for the first Harry Potter movie to the cinema in 2001, I was seven years old then. Now, this beginning of the new era of Harry Potter world gives me the same chills. I was so happy when I started watching "Fantastic Beasts..." in the cinema yesterday and I was so sad after it ended because first I thought that this was the end! But after coming home I instantly checked the info and again was full of happiness when I had read that there will be another 4 PARTS! I feel so nostalgic now

This theme is great. It has that Harry Potter feeling at first, but the rest is different and establishes a new tone. This is still magical, but this isn't teenagers, this are fully trained wizards who are dealing with something that feels like real danger. Yet the last minute or so gives you that feel that it still will be fun, because that theme reminds you of newt's beasts and how magical and astonishing they are.
This is amazing! Oscar-worthy. Saw the movie today - the score suits the movie so much!

He didn't compose Avatar. The person was James Horner who I heard had tragically passed away last year. He had worked on other James Cameron films before like Titanic I think.

Starbite Productions I agree. I could be wrong, but I think that motif is Newt's theme (or his case's). If I'm right, then I'm fairly certain we'll hear it in future installments, since he's the main character.
Starbite Productions JNH is confirmed to at least compose the second movie so I'm sure he'll bring some of these themes back. I sure hope the theme at 1:40 is there. But I really hope he expands on "A Man and His Beasts" since that's been coined as the "main theme" for the Fantastic Beasts series
