I agree. It’s not about finding gold or getting rich. It’s about saving the history that was lost by past generations. I get asked frequently if I’m a treasure hunter and if I find much gold and I just say no I’m a custodian of history, not a treasure hunter. I save history and preserve it. I’m not out here looking for gold necessarily (although some days it would be nice) I’m saving history. And I love it. Great finds mate that shilling is a ripper. love the videos mate keep it up 👍

Hard to say whether you'd note a comment posted onto an episode 2 years back! So watching 2-part showgrounds hunts ahead of start of 2022 (19-12-21) part 2, you'd found a 1917M threepence that I saw right away was a variety, a three-legged emu! A die crack runs 45° from the tail to the coin rim, Rennik's guide, "Aus Pre-decimal Varieties" 2nd Edition, it is variety "C7B", page 66. There'd been I think in part 1, but in the wrap-up of both, a barely legibly dated threepence- 1921/1922. If it's an overdate 1922/1, a "1" under the second "2", it's valued at least $5,500, even in that rough state, if the date is right, highly sought after, thought only 900 minted. There's valuable key dates, but there's also very valuable varieties and errors, even in the tokens series- imagine an Aussie token with a Canadian bank on one side, an odd error! Yes, it's not a financial consideration for why we long enjoy this hobby but, if l had found a very valuable item, say, a 1930 penny, could I justify holding onto it? Or a big gold nugget? I'd keep a little cutie nugget you could put on a loop and chain, coincidentally that 1922/1 3d. variety is often found holed for wearing on a necklace, most likely because it was a rare variety, but folk didn't know not to whack a hole into it! I'd hate to say what I did with some of my coins when I was six years old and swapping coins with a friend in primary school! Cola? Oh! Happy digging, "W" 'roo!

I never even noticed the third leg on the emu. I just looked back in my album and found it again , thankyou ! I’m not overly familiar with errors in the older currency, I do have a 1946 penny where the head of George V1 has been pressed through and it’s visible on the kangaroo side ! I had a look at my 1921, 1922 threepence but I can’t see any overdates, I have heard of this error. You're 100%right, whoever is detecting trying to make money off it, is in wrong hobby. No1 can pay me that awesome feeling when some relic or coin popped out of the ground. Nice video mate 👍

Bleriot nameplate from a brass carriage side lamp if it were meant to be flat, curved for early motor car acetylene lamp, named after the French aviator, Louis Bleriot. Being London & Paris, probably off a British made car, or joint UK/French make, but I'm no expert! On "reigns" in the Australian Commonwealth button, excellent thinking through, E vii R... I like that. Only thing, and Garry S of DetectingOz makes this error too, it's Rex for a King, and Regina for a Queen, but you'll see the "reg" as gender-neutral in the example when there's a gap between monarchs, an interregnum. I'd hate to suggest the right term if they're going through a gender reassignment! Nearly watched all your episodes, like with Garry S too, once all watched I'll soon find some gaps of time in between these uploads, necessitating actually going out myself, swinging for Cornetto-sized gold nuggets, Sydney Mint full and half sovereigns... although some of our tokens can be worth many more thousands than most gold minted coinage, but that pricing must be understood it's for the love of the history, they generally have very little intrinsic value... But as you say, not financial gain or profit, it's the thrill of the find, personal grounding in our history, communion with our environments, the built, the heavily altered, like the goldfields, and sharing the untouched natural gifts of our common wealth, with, like you show, and explain why- thoughtfulness and caring. Hi Gabi, Thankyou so much for the info, you are right indeed, I had a bit of a google and found the exact same name plate on a early 1900s brass side lamp, there are a couple of other designs one with just Paris and another with extra street numbers ( they must have expanded their factory at some stage 😅 haha yeah it’s a bit mad nowadays with the gender “changes” 😅 I’ll try to remember Rex and Regina next time 😁 another confusing one is I’ve found buttons at a railway station site before and I’m not sure if the VR on them is Victoria Regina or Victorian Railways 😂😂 thanks for watching and identifying the plate I probably wouldn’t have ever found Out what it was off otherwise :) 👍🏼

Oh, I'd also seen on lock plate keyhole covers as the example "VR" and thought railways, too, but like EviiR you and others have had "WR" items and maybe not noted, it's William IV, between GR, George III, and VR, Victoria, few changes to the insignia in that era and the slight difference between WR & VR may not be noticed. Shame there's no large chest full from falling off a gold escort, circa 1850s! When I saw Bleriot I thought, boy!, he's about to find a lost aviator and French biplane in country Victoria!😅
Yes I always do when I first turn it on , you probably could skip it and it would be fine just some ground can be noisy and the defector will chatter , if it’s chattering a lot I’ll noise cancel and re ground balance again sometime during the hunt, yes I like my 800 and I couldn’t justify spending 3000 on a new manticore😅 people say they find more but I’m yet to be convinced, I haven’t seen any thorough testing with the machines side by side 😁 have fun out there!
