- Here we're showing how to prune okra while picking our okra plants. This pruning technique is desired for easy access and visibility along with increased production.
Okra is an easy vegetable to grow We’re growing this Long horn okra or cow horn okra, an heirloom variety. These pods stay tender at long lengths and grow really fast. To make sure you don’t get any hard ones, you want to pick your okree every 2-3 days.
Usually the ends are cut off in the field when we pick. We bring them in, clean them up, slice them to eat fresh and store some for another time.
Okra is a highly sought after vegetable here in the south especially during the summer time. We want it fresh, we want it tender and lots of it! It’s prepared in any number of ways. But here, we like it fried, in gumbo, and smothered with shrimp, sausage, and tomatoes over rice. Talk about good!

Yes indeed. Ready or not lol
Nice of you to come see me. Thank you for the love.
Have a good one 👍🏾
I’m so happy to learn you can prune the plant and it’ll continue to produce. Mine are like 10 feet tall, and I’m struggling to reach. I’m trying to figure out the best way to prune them shorter, to a more manageable height for harvesting, while continuing to harvest!
The crop is looking pretty good.
Thank you. I Appreciate it.
Hi there nice to have meet you
Oh my look at the size of that okra!!!
I'm in Texas. Hey neighbor! Good harvest along with your pruning.
Thank you so much. Welcome to the neighborhood 😃
Thank you for this video. I will try to have a lot of okras for this garden season. A kiss from France.
Bonjour!
Merci beaucoup! Very glad I was able to help and hoping you have a huge harvest this year.
I grow my garden in 5-15 gal containers and I love Baby Bubba Okra because it is self pollinating and grows in a bush to about 3-4ft not 15ft tall. Very tasty and productive too~!
Okra one of my top 5 things to add to a good chicken stir fry. Thanks for letting me go ahead at lagneauxs.
Nice
Thank you.
Just found your channel and I’m trying to grow Okra this year and I was told that the leaves will help keep my sons sugar levels down
Thank you. I’ve never tried the leaves, but okra is good and nutritious. All the best to you.
I eat the leaves too, they're very nice!

Hey Louisiana Gardner, I'm here watching your videos 1st time here. I'm in Louisiana zone 9. okra, looking good 👍🏻
Wassup home girl @HealthyLivingWithWendy. Nice to meet you. Thank you for stopping by my place. I appreciate it.
Interesting. I'd never pruned okra this hard before. Usually just the yellowing branches.
But good to know I can shape them up to make more handsome plants!
I’m new to growing okra this year. I’m growing the green Clemson spineless variety. I learned to harvest while they’re small. The bigger they get the woodier they are.
This kind can grow a lil bigger than others
Quite a good job you are doing!
What spacing do you use in btw plants and in btw rows?
Cheers mate!
Yaaaaaas Family Rock out love it!❤️🥰
Thank you 😊 family
Wow look at that okra!
thank you 😊
Damn thing wont let me like! So I'll just tell you! LIKE
I appreciate that. THANK YOU 😊
You guys have an awesome garden!! My papaw had huge gardens with rows & rows of okra like this. Us kids would have to get out there after school & pick okra almost everyday 😂 my new favorite variety of okra is Heavy Hitter okra from Baker Creek. It produced a ton of okra this year & I only had 7 plants!
Ok. I’m gonna see what heavy hitter is talking about. I started young as well…out there bright and early with my folks too. Thanks for sharing and for the okra tip. Have a good one.
@@LouisianaGardener absolutely! The heavy hitter okra has outperformed any okra I’ve ever grown! I think you’ll like it!
If you e not tried Heavy Hitter okra you need to find some. Most productive I’ve ever grown.
I’ma have to check ‘em out next time. Thank you for letting me know and for stopping by.
It’s beautiful 😍how do you plant the okra? What kind of dirt and fertilizer and seed to you use? When do I know when to water the okra?
I planted some indoors as transplants and it’s a good thing because we had a lot of rain this year. I used store bought soil for the seeds. I used Triple 13 fertilizer in the field.
Can okra still do well after being hit by the winter and it has removed all the leaves
it’s possible, if it survived the hit
What about pruning of plants before fruiting?
Planting distance in row?
you got an amazing channel. pls lets be here.
I appreciate that. I’m glad you came by. Thank you.
Bro that field of okra is a thing of beauty!!!
