You know, I never thought about it like that! My dog, (and cats) ALWAYS follow me into the bathroom. They have followed my friends into the bathroom too. I just figured they knew I would be trapped and HAD to pet them, but your explanation is better! It makes more sense because my animals will always lie next to the bathtub when I'm showering and I know it's not because they want to get in the water with me!

I had a Golden Retriever, years ago. I miss him. I imagined that he probably had thoughts, like that. Good faithful friend. I wished that they had CZcams back then. I would have videoed our adventures.

Goldens are a very special breed. They connect a certain way with humans and they have a special kind of intelligence. I think my next dog may be a golden. I don't want to think too much about that though, because it means the loss of my shorkie (shih tzu/yorkie), Rudy...and I love him with all my heart.
If you want to read a great book about a golden, read Big Little Life by Dean Koontz. He wrote a memoir about a golden he had. He actually sent an autographed copy to me after I wrote him. Great book!

I know... however- if you happen to be home alone and your dogs (or in my case cats) always insist on busting down the bathroom door like a SWAT team when you go in there, you tend to just give up and let them come in for whatever GODFORSAKEN reason they insist on watching us poop! (Then again now that I think about it, we actually collect our dog's poops into special little bags and sift through our cat's litter boxes like we're panning for gold so I can only imagine what kind of Freak Show they think WE are...)
