- ( tflcar.com/ ) In this video, we have two brand new three-row family haulers: the Genesis GV80 and the Acura MDX. Both compete in the same area, but take different approaches when it comes to technology, luxury and sporty driving traits. Or are they really as different as you might think? Does the Genesis or the Acura really have everything you'd need? Roman and Tommy take a closer look and compare the two.

#Acura #Genesis #SUV - Auta a dopravní prostředky
The Genesis looks like a GTA car come to life.
I like how genesis made a unique looking SUV, and not something that looks like everything else on the road.
Aztek was unique too.
I mean it looks exactly like a Bentley so it’s not really unique, but you don’t see Bentleys everyday so it will definitely stand out.
its copy of bentley bentayga
Only thing it’s missing is tables/tv and a little more hp
@Ayush Malpeddi I would say the Aztek looks better than the Bentley Beluga whale. So not much of an accomplishment.

I LOVE that camel tan with blue interior in the GV80! That’s so unique! And blue in the interior is so rare & cool especially if it’s a dark blue
Genesis with prestige package 100%. No comparison in terms or presence, elegance, luxury and comfort. Soft close doors, better sound system, nappa leather, better design in/out, cool/heated seats back seats, better monitor, quieter, softer. List goes on...but of course you pay for that pleasure so yah. If I had a family tho...I'd prob do the MDX tho.
But the Acura will have far better resale value, and probably better reliability as well.
I bet in 5 years, that Acura will be worth more than the Genesis...
I will definitely go for the MDX , it is a proven winner

Too bad the shitty genesis (hyundai) falls flat on its face in terms of reliability.
I respect the hell out of the acura but it’s genesis for me.
Genisis is nice overpriced car ...
With all off the douchebaggery Hyundai has done and still is doing to their own customers, I'll never again buy anything from them or their sub brands.

Excellent review. I love how Roman has Tommy’s picture as his phone wallpaper. Cracked me up!
I have a 2002 MDX .. and even though I didn't like that "beak" hood at first.. This thing has grown on me and is one of the best cars I've ever had. I would love to have either one of these in the video. lol..

I'll be buying another MDX. Period.
you should consider the reliability issues that acura has
"The Genesis' steering wheel looks like Stuey's head from The Family Guy"- LMAO! I agree. And the Genesis' front grill looks like Batman designed it. I still want one, though, just to be like Tiger Woods (who was lucky he wasn't in a Buick THAT day).
so you want to speed it down the main road and crash it on the hills? lol
Guys, i love how you both go toe to toe with each of the cars you feature. At the end of the say is all about $$ and cents, features and the trust or possibly a previous experience customers have with a brand. I am going to be honest, i will take the Acura all day LONG! Because there is resale value, low maintenance and because the SHAWD systems with torque vectoring makes the car fun to drive in all types of terrain. Sorry Genesis, i dont see myself spending the extra $$$ on your cars.
U guys are funny😄👍
Right on time when I'm looking for the comparison of these 2 vehicles..ty
The snark between Tommy and Roman gets me every time! 😁😁
Especially when they’re doing a video about Tesla 😂
I have a 2020 Ridgline RTL-E and love it. Considered the Tacoma TRD offroad, and man that thing drives like a model T compared to a Ridgeline. I have to disagree with Roman though... The Ridgeline is all the truck needed for 98% (not 95%) of truck buyers out there! As a commuter in Boston, the Ridgeline can't be beat! It also handled 1,500+ pounds of floor tile in the bed no problem.
Did you forget what video you were watching???
Annnnnnd?
I love the father-son dueling format. Acura's interior looks very busy (younger buyers may like that). Genesis' interior is clean minimalist (older buyers like me may prefer that). I certainly don't have the "80's mindset".
Excellent comparison, with fun, yet serious bantering.
Both vehicles are awesome.
Parents own a 2019 MDX and driven it from time to time.
Test driven a GV80 and personally, I think both vehicles are awesome!! Each are very similar.

There’s a mouse pad also so you won’t have to reach and touch the screen while driving.
@@samsonchan1488 the mousepad would be great if it was as functional as BMW’s idrive controls. Unfortunately, Genesis’s design for that could use a few more hard button controls around where the scroll wheel is.
Acura’s infotainment usability isnt great either though...

I’ve seen both in person. I was in love with the GV80 before going to both dealerships but the MDX is sexier! Trust me!
MDX Front End definitely looks better to my eyes, it's less blingy and more playful. That's where any benefits end. The GV80 is the superior vehicle in and out!

Probably in the minority, but I like the Acura’s styling better than the genesis. Otherwise, theyre pretty much equal if you compare the mdx with the 2.5t genesis.
He’ll naw...genesis turn heads
I will never buy another Kia. Period. We contacted the Kia Corporate office to help with an issue we had after our car broke down on the side of the interstate 2 times after being serviced at 2 different Kia dealerships, Langdale Kia in Valdosta and Crown Kia in Saint Petersburg. Kia Corporate gave us the run around, telling us they would send our service request upper management to have it approved. After 3 weeks, they finally told us that no our car wasn’t under warranty! What?! It’s like they didn’t even read what we submitted. Kia doesn’t know how to fix their own vehicles and doesn’t care if they break down multiple times. This has been a horrible experience. Now we have a car we own that can’t be repaired since Kia doesn’t even know how to fix it.

I bashed one of TFLs recent reviews when they reviewed the Model Y vs the Mach-e but this was a great review. The MDX is the gold standard in this category/price range but the Genesis is so nice and fresh you’d have to give it a serious consideration if you were in the market. I’d have a hard time deciding and I own a 2015 Santa Fe Sport turbo🤷🏽♂️. Great comparison guys! Now if only Cadillac could build a three row mid size as nice as the Aviator!
My brother was considering both of these and I went along on the test drive. Yes, the Genesis has a better infotainment system, but the Acura felt like a better drive -- far better steering feel and the engine was smoother and sounded better (the Genesis we drove was the 2.5T 4-cylinder)

Good comparison, but can’t wait for the type S. More comparable to the genesis here. I feel like most cars are comparable to each other it just comes down to flavor and which you’d prefer.
I’ve seen a few of these on the road where I live, I think they are absolutely stunning. Look far more expensive than they actually are.
Cool review...not sure I could do that red interior long term.
Thank you for being the one to point out the lack of center armrests in the MDX with the seat out. It’s a half baked design
Aaron...Agreed! It's not really captains chairs at all. It's a flat bench seat with no arm rests!! Nobody would want to sit in that!
What I find funny is the young guy likes the what I would consider a older person's SUV and the older guy likes the more sporty looking SUV. I'm sorry the Genesis reminds me of a Lincoln or Buick. And the Acura MDX looks sporty and modern.
Love both vehicles a lot. Got a 2019 RDX and love every bit of it. No one can beat SHAWD best in the industry hands down. Probably will upgrade to MDX once paid off and go with Acura due to reliability. However, I think Hyundai have been improving year over year exponentially.
"That's a 1980s mindset"
Ouch 😂
I disagree with him with that 1980s mindset. I will definitely take the Acura any day. I think he should say base on your personal preference. I think most people gripe with the MDX is that stupid Infotainment system. Don’t get me wrong the genesis is gorgeous just not my cup of tea. We will find out by the end of the year in sales what the people have chosen as the better option
Great review point/counterpoint. Nice vehicles, but for now I'll stick with my used Cayenne S E-hybrid.

Acura and honda need to step up their game quickly.
Clearly the Genesis is a better SUV and Roman knows it, he was just trying to make a case why someone might legitimately choose the MDX instead
@Leaf Closson to me the mdx looks clunky and clumsy. And while at first the red interior may look cool, it would be too much to see it all the time.

Which one will last longer and is more reliable? Go with the Acura. The Genesis looks nice for sure, but I'll take the Acura's better made engine and history of reliability.

Genesis reliability has been great! The genesis engine is dual injection also!
@Andres Perez if you think Hyundai/Genesis makes more reliable cars and better made engines than Honda/Acura you are out of your mind. 1980? Hahaha 20 years before the MDX was even made and 7 years before Acura was even selling cars. The Honda company has a much better track record than the Hyundai company even now. Don’t try to act like they only made good cars 40 years ago. Is the GV80 making you crazy? Beautiful luxurious and elegant new SUV, yes. Does it triumph Acura’s history for making reliable cars with great engines. Hell no.
@@kristians2704 Stay in Europe.
@@AFCompany The MDX has some serious reliability problems throughout its history, but both Honda and Hyundai are generally very reliable brands. These days, most surveys and analyses of the data give the edge to Hyundai, but I don't think there's a reliability gap between the two that buyers should be particularly concerned about.
I bought a 2011 SE new in Aug 2010 which mostly had highway miles. I pretty much baby it.
It was the worst car I ever had in the snow, the OE tires suck. Hyundai replaced the transmission because it was slipping, which never fixed the problem. I replaced the steering wheel grommet which saved me $400 dollars. (love youtube) The fuel gauge sensor went out. (tried replacing but to hard) The MPG gauge was never correct. I averaged 27 MPG even though the gauge read 29. Maybe 8 recalls.
I then gave the car to my son-in-law and yesterday the engine blows up. I regularly changed the oil with Mobil 1, and a Purolator PureONE oil filter. So I maybe saved $2,000 off a Honda, but the quality is not the same.
Nice try comparing a Hyundai from more than 10 years ago, when the korean brand was starting to take the stage, with a Genesis from 2021. They've come a long way since then, even on the realiability front.

I always thought Acuras and BMWs share a lot in common, but also in a bad way. They both lack front center storage space! You end up with a cup holder full of little things..
By the way, Genesis looks like a budget Bentayga whereas Acura looks like a Pilot type R. And I think those families picking up kids doesn't quite match with the latter.
People only die a little inside when they have kids, they still like sporty cars and Acura has a luxury but not snobby luxury reputation in the US. (Which is perhaps outdated now that you can buy a Merc SUV for MDX money.)
Love the comparison reviews just choose sides on the real pros and cons of each car so we get the real picture of what they offer kind of like the conclusion segment. You should do the Genesis 4 turbo against the MDX and later the type A vs the 3.5 v6 Genesis.
I had the worst experience having a Kia car. This was my first time I chose Kia because I liked the car that I was going to lease. The previous two cars that I drove were Toyota and they never ever gave me problems that usually an older car gives (one Problem on top of another). Imagine you trust the company, you get a brand new car thinking that “hey it’s a new car. I’m not going to have all the problems that old cars give" and then one day you wake up, your car is not starting, the next day brake lights don’t work, the following week another problem comes up.
haha Love that father son dynamic
Last time I checked Roman....MDX is designed in Torrance, CA and engineered in Ohio. Not Tokyo... Maybe they changed it for this one...but i doubt it.
I like the Acura MDX! Genesis has some nice touches, but the MDX still takes the cake!
I really like the fast lane car reviews and have been watching you guys for a few years now. I just believe your dad has a personal biased towards US vehicles and likes them over the counter parts in Japan.

The father/son back and forth banter was fun to watch. Thanks guys!
Which of those 2 is more reliable ?
I am not a big fan of turbo
The engine in the Acura sits sideways, like in a minivan. OK... you mean where it routinely delivers several hundred thousand trouble free miles? Good luck with your Genesis Tommy!
1: Acura will sell more. Better priced and packaged. 2: If you want more power, theyre offering a Type S for a reason. 3: The Genesis is a great SUV. The issue is the dealership system. It doesn’t exist. 4: The SH-AWD is a much better system. 5: The Acura does have the touch pad, which some will say is weird to use. Over all: great SUVs but the Acura has the reliability and sales record helping in its corner.

MDX for me. Just wished that it towed more!
Excellent!!!
What kind of genius decided to mix a giant drive mode dial in with the climate controls?
Interior ergonomics in both are not great. For instance, the Genesis has a touch screen, but it’s too far forward and high up to reach it while in a normal driving position.
Friends will attempt to adjust the volume if they want to lose their fingers 🤨
Fun video.😀
Japanese cars have a teenage Transformer look.
Acura definitely good for long term and resale value. The genesis looks really nice,, more luxury, but depreciate quick. And for $8000 more than the acura, it is gonna be tough to pick the gensis
Yes, if money wasn't an issue the genesis would be better, but the acura is arguably better looking and just cooler vehicle. And what you said about it being more reliable
Alright, let’s talk drive modes. I have questions, Why? And why is it a big deal? I’m not talking tow/haul mode but snow, sand, sport, sport +, race, mud, gravel, etc. Is this because corporations have determined we can’t drive or because they can’t make a car you can just drive by how you press the throttle and a couple switches for TC and AWD/4WD things.?
Tommy, proper mountain bikes use 12 speeds these days...
You know minivans drive actually really good. Most the time better than their SUV counterparts, and more like their sedan counterparts. We own an 07 Honda Odyssey and that thing has no right being as fun as it is.😉
Wait for the Type S!!!!
The funniest banter episode ever, laughing out loud you guys are awesome
No mention of the MDX Type S?
I wanna watch a 3-point turn with those transmission controls.
Once you get used to it, it's not too bad. It's like transitioning from a console shifter to a column shifter. You'll develop the muscle memory. Getting out of the driveway is like a 3 point turn starting from reverse. So people that live in a house with a driveway should have figured it out pretty quickly. It's the push button shifters that are much less intuitive for 3 point turns...
Brand is everything tommy. Brand is everything.
Acura isn't quite a desirable luxury brand either though. Its like a sub luxury brand. Not going for the top notch.

I have to say that the Acura interior, especially in red and black is a huge miss for me. It looks like they are still 2 steps behind as they often have let themselves get to. It’s like the designer took his black and red gaming chair from his gaming room and designed the interior around that!! Big miss. The handling I suspect is right on. They have gotten that right for a long time I agree. I don’t like either front end, but that’s personal taste as well. The Genesis interior ministry the weird blue and old fashioned styling of the steering wheel is quite stunning. Enough so to make the short comings easy to live with.

I haven’t used the Acura infotainment system but have seen other reviewers dive-in to how it works differently than other trackpad systems. It doesn’t work like a laptops touchpad that moves a pointer around the screen, it is absolute position, so touch the upper right corner of the pad and it will highlight whatever is in the upper right of the screen. If you are used to using other systems or a laptop trackpad this may be very confusing. Some reviewers have preferred this because once you get the hang of it, it requires less time with eyes off the road. That said, everyone seems to agree that a touchscreen is vastly preferable.
