I am a 78 year old man i Denmark and have had knee problems for 1 year . I hav always been active vith running and mountainbike but 1 year ago i got pain problems with walking . i have been at fysioterapi but it did not get better . Two weeks ago i saw this video and bought two ancleweights each 5 kg . After first time it helped and was better . Now after 1,5 week i nearly have no pain and walk much better nearly . I do this exerxice 3 times a day
I am a 70 year old woman who had a total knee replacement 5 years ago and have osteoarthritis in the other knee. Trying to avoid another replacement. I came across your video and watched. Decided to try it. OMG! It is helping almost immediately after doing it. I am committed! Thanks for providing such a simple way to help decrease the pain.
May I ask why your trying to avoid another TKR iam about to have my first one and hope I don’t feel the same as you do
I suffer from knee pain when I sit or get up (squatting) - no issue when walking, even for hours. I started doing this exercise two days ago ... the effects (improvement) are totally remarkable.
I am 76 years of age and have osteoarthritis in my left knee. I'm around 10 stone in weight. What ankle weight should l use for this exercise? Thank you
hi doc.i have RA on both knees and they're swollen nd inflammed should i do this exercise
my weights arrived yesterday I took 6lbs and did this for a minute on the one leg that has been giving me grief for two weeks. I cannot believe how much better my knee is this morning!!! Thank you so much!
OMG. I just turned 70 and have been using a walker for the past year due to knee issues/osteoarthritis. I just tried this 7-30-2023 without weights and noticed an immediate difference. I have ordered the weights on Amazon and look forward to the continued relief. THANK YOU!!!!
Best thing I've ever seen for Arthritis. I saw benefits even after the first time. It actually feels good and is almost an addiction. Once a day in the evening works for me. Sometimes I sit at my computer desk and put up the chair and just let me legs hang (with the weighs on).
I WORKED UP TO 10 POUNDS PER ANKLE AND A 30-MINUTE LEG SWING! I HAVE BEEN DOING IT SEVERAL TIMES A WEEK AND I THINK IT HAS MADE AN IMPROVEMENT.
I knew he was going to say swimming and bicycling as I discovered that decades ago. Let pain be your guide. Less pain in movement = better for knees and increases circulation in joint. Also liquid glucosamine + chondroitin is more absorbable and helps long term, but is not a cure. Costco carries it. Not endorsing, just telling my my experience. For me low carb/keto ( with non starchy vegies) greatly reduced the inflammation in my knees, lowered the pain and gave me much more mobility.
Thank you. I shall explore your recommendation. This is so timely for my recent paining and burning in the knees. Merci encore👍🏽
Thanks alot
That is a very sensible exercise. What it does is to encourage growth of the cartilage which is being eroded without any damaging pressure. Thank you for the tip. I will add it to the many exercises. I do.
Agreed, I take the same supplements in pill form, and keto has almost eliminated arthritic and other pain.
@@eb6195 thanks for the great information. I totally with the dietary suggestions and would add probiotic foods like sauerkraut, kefir, kombucha, kimchi…., somehow they help with inflammation. Also intermittent fasting or straight out fasting is great.👍
After no significant results from ortho appts, meds and imaging this is what resolved my knee pain.
Fabulous. Thanks for sharing.
Is it a temporary relief or permanaet
@Cassandra's Rollercoaster Journey I need your help, I think I have a sprained LCL. A lot of the research I do says you should walk as normally but other research says rest as much as possible. I wear knee sleeves and going to work will this prevent my lcl to heal?
@@servantofthecreator LCL is LATERAL COLLATERAL LIGAMENT?--if it's a ligament or tendon injury, things that help include rest, ice, compression (maybe), elevation, tylenol and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen or naproxen. If you have a high pain level, you should see a medical doctor, who can properly examine you and take x-rays (as the exam directs). Other things that might help: diclofenac or lidocaine topical, both over-the counter medications. Physical therapy can also markedly help you feel better and heal.
The exercise in this video doesn't address LCL injuries.
@@paddlepower888 thanks for info. I thought it might have been a lcl sprain but now I’m almost convinced it’s a lateral meniscus tear(I feel a bit of pain) but no locking or anything. Can one live with a meniscus tear? Will that lead to harsh or critical situations in the future ... i just don’t want to go do another surgery and have to go through that again
I have really bad arthritis in my hands now. I HATE it.
Your channel is SO helpful! We need to get the word out to more people about how helpful you are.
My 10 lbs ankle weights came today and I am very encouraged by the results already ! Another Dr. was talking about this exercise but without the ankle weights. But for me, that ten pounds per leg does wonders. I really appreciate your outstanding help here. The added 10 lb. ankle weights really makes a big difference
Great job!
I've got an ACL tear, meniscus tears in both knees and osteo arthritis. But I just did my first session of this exercise and it feels great. Thank you !
Thanks for sharing!
How old are you ???
I just did swinging with ten lbs ankle weights feel little better if this is temporary relief or permanant can i do 5 minutes 3 times a day writing 2nd time didn't get answers any thanks
Did this exercise after injuring my knee. I reabilitated my knee without going to physical therapy. (Not recommending you do that on your own. Just sharing my experience as I could not afford the physical therapy) after the first time doing this...I felt some relief. I also used hot water on my knee when showering and slowly bending the knee. Within a month or two I was able to walk normally without any pain! I kept doing the exercise for a while...and slowly decreasing how often. I occasionally do it to stretch my knee and it feels amazing! Take care of your knees! 👍👍
Professional super tasty lovely unrefined
Thanks for sharing. My knee is hurting right now. Will be getting ankle weights when I leave work 👍
@@juliabelcher3773 good luck. Hope it feels better.
@@DodgeChic69 Good to see. I did the same knee stretch with ankle weights and avoided surgery. I found this theory from a Dr Bergman when he did a knee presentation on his youtube vid. Applying heat tricks the body to accelerate blood flow to the knee replacing the synovial fluid with new filtrated blood. If you take glucosime sulphate, fish oil, MSM which is sulphur, the body is intelligent enough to regrow cartilage in the joint. Just like a cut, bruise, burn, fracture the body is designed to repair the damage. We are innate.
@@hadrian3487 can you take glucosamine sulfate with a shellfish allergy? I already take fish oil. Need to get some MSM.
I do this every morning and it has helped my aching knees - from walking with crutches to a strapped knee within a couple of days! No more crutches

I'll give it a try. I'm experiencing arthritis that I was warned 19 years ago was coming. I've ridden a bicycle most of my life, so I'm pleased to get confirmation that it is a great exercise for this. I'd hate to have to stop, I would miss the activity terribly.
Yep, that's what I've been doing for almost 15 years now. If I stop, the pain returns...
I read many of the comments and I totally understand people living with pain, I certainly do myself. What I don’t understand is peoples reluctance to have a total knee replacement. Many of my friends I ski and hike with have had them and they feel great. They all regret not getting them done sooner. I will do this a try because I too have knee problems not as soon as it becomes extremely painful and stops me from doing the things I love I am getting new knees. Life is too short to be in constant pain. I wish you all well. Take care
People, if your rheumatologist or orthopedic surgeon says get knee replacements, do It! I'm 70 years old. Got to the point I couldn't walk without severe pain. Now, I am active again and walk at least 2 miles every day. I've had both knees replaced, 4 months apart, 3 years ago. Find a good surgeon that you trust, take the pain meds as prescribed to stay ahead of pain, DO THE REHAB NO MATTER WHAT, and get on with your life. It is so worth it!!!!
I saw this technique elsewhere without the weights. It did help my knees a lot and I decided in July to get weights. As my knees have been trashed and very painful, I only got 5lb weights. My fear was causing more harm than good. I can absolutely say with some experimentation I have had a great deal of relief. A lot less snap, crackle & pop, with improved mobility.
Ok....I'm going to try this...I have 3lb ankle weights .....I'm 74 & my knees are killing me !
@bart Simpson I have chronic pain and it has ruined my life. I cannot walk and very close to a wheelchair. While not addicted to Meds. I try to manage the pain.
@bart Simpson there shouldnt be grinding at all
Thank you Doctor...I will definitely try this exercise as my knees hurt while climbing up & down the stairs.
Truly amazing. I'm 87 and my right knee started really bothering me 9 months ago limiting my walking. Just started this days ago and results are startling. Hope it keeps up. Thanks. Peter

After watching this video I tried it…IT WORKS! Also, my knees felt better after the first time. I only had 2lb weights but it still gave tremendous relief. Thank you for sharing.
Fantastic!
As someone who has osteoporosis and osteoarthritis and who exercises for 30 minutes daily as well as a 30-minute walk, yet who just feels things are getting worse, not better, I will certainly give this a go.Thank you.
Consider trying an anti inflammatory diet. Find the foods that are making inflammation worse and cut them out, it will really help x

Saw the video and gave the ankle weight exercise a try......great results.....lessened the discomfort of going downstairs which gave me the most pain....thanks!!
3 minutes of this simple leg swing w/o weight took away the considerable pain of the past few days from overwork. Front, under, inside, and back of knee pain - all gone! Thank you!!!
Great job!
Well over a million views, so I have lots of company! Thanks for the video. Chiropractors are underrated.
Thank you!
What did you do?
Absolutely delighted no pain at all after two days now able to go for my very early morning walk by the sea feel I am living again!!

@@ullaandersen6423 Because I am of Small build and older I use 6lb weights (2.70 kg). (3lb on each ankle which when elevated doing the exercise one hardly feels the weight at all!) Happy to say still no pain after starting the exercises, find it hard to believe!
Best of luck
Well, I was going to write that “ I’d like to believe it, but I don’t”. ( because it seemed like stretching ligaments and weakening the knee joint). I was about to inquire about this, but then I just read the comments below. Lots of success with this. So I’m gonna give it a go.
This is an excellent video and I will just add one thing. “Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate!” A lot of my issues with my knees have been caused by chronic dehydration. A recent change in my approach to health has proven this in my case.
@@davidjones4600 this so informative and inspiring...very detailed 👌🙏my mom is 77 and she keeps complaining about cramps on her knees and she is always in constant pain virtually every time and what else can she do?

Hello Doctor,
I am 68 & from India.Because of my knee pain my walking pace has slowed down from 2-3 yrs. While climbing stairs i have to take 1 step at a time.
After i saw your vedeo i want to try out the exercise you have recommended. I hope this will help me.Thank You Doctor. 🎉
I started with the simple "back and forth", then added "side to side", and finally rotating in a small circle (both CW and CCW). My routine now includes all four movements. For hips, I stand on a piece of 2X6 on one leg and do the four movements with the other leg....then switch. Really really has majorly improved joint pain.
Warthog: Great ideas, Thanks!
What is this standing on a 2X6 leg movement method you are talking about?
@Don Forum I think so.
I don’t understand the 2x6. What is 2x6?
@@plum_loco
The measurements of a board, thickness x width, basically giving enough height to allow for the working leg to have room from not hitting the ground and thus promoting the traction benefits.
This exercise is indeed helpful; also recommended by a physio therapist in Germany ...
I keep knees warm(neoprene knee support) and because of work, lots of bending, and at times heavy lifting... Heat, heat, heat those knees (blood flow) , but keep joint moving, use it or lose it.... Had arthritus years, still going strong.
Thanks for getting straight to the point. 👍
You are a very good physical therapist. It has given me a lot of results. I started with some velcro-tied water bottles (homemade to try). Then I bought 2kg anklets and now I am walking much better without fear of the severe pain that I have previously suffered ... Thankful!
Thanks for sharing
Thank you doc..a very helpful tips...i will try it on,im 58yrs old and i am suffering the pain on my knee very often especialy when i get up in the morning.i am very grateful for the wonderful healing.
I've been doing this for about a month now and I can certainly say it works. The results aren't miraculous but if you persevere then you certainly feel positive results. If you're going to try it, make sure you get weights that are easy to put on; mine are a bit fiddly so I like to do just one set of exercises a day. I sit on the edge of our (sturdy) dining table and swing away for up to 15 minutes while reading a book; I'm actually writing this comment while doing my exercises!
Believe me, it really works.
Miracles aren't on CZcams. Realistic advice means realistic. You won't feel like you're 20 again, but you'll feel pretty darn good.
It's great that it worked for you. Can you please let me know if it is good in the long term as well?
I think 15 minutes is too
long, you dont want to put too much pressure
on the joint.I would do 2x a day for 6,7minutes.
with some swimming .
Most horse trainers use
swimming for their injured horses the water takes the strain of the joint ,this weight exercise put a strain on
the joints.
I've had terrible knee pain and found it hard to sleep i did this exercise without the weights and already it feels so much better , thank God i found this video .
Cool
**Goes on Amazon to purchase ankle weights**
Ty for the informative video!
I'm 79 and I've been doing this exercise without the weights for years and it works, if you want to do the exercise you can start without weights and see if does any good you can always buy the weights later if you think you need the weight.

What can you use besides weights if you can't afford
@@sandram.8324 Fair question. You can use heavy work or snow boots. Then you swing your legs on a strong table back and forth 3 sets of 10 or 20 times, whatever your threshold is. Maybe you can tape some sand bag on each leg or even tape 5 pounds of sugar bag on each leg as well. Best wishes on a speedy recovery. God Bless.

I ordered ankle weights and they just arrived tonight. I had a long day on my feet at work (I'm a carpenter), and my knees were absolutely killing me by the time I got home, so much so that I could barely climb even the first step of a short ladder. I put the weights on and sat on the edge of a table while I watched the news. When I got up, I couldn't believe how immediate the relief was! Thank you! I intend to interject three minutes of this exercise morning, noon (even at lunch while on the job), and night. I will have two total knee replacements this spring and summer, but this one exercise already feels like it will see me through until both are done.
Great advice
thanks for sharing this! do you mind sharing if it still helps in the long term?
@@michael.schuler I am so glad it went well for you!! Thanks for all your advice, you are right, it is important to search about the institution and the surgeon to ensure the surgery goes well. I am planning on showing this exercise to my doctor and get his opinion. The thing with this exercise is that it would give instant relief to some degree to anyone because you are removing the weight so you feel you are lighter and that makes you feel better. So I am still not sure if the relief is actually because of the arthritis improving. Thanks once again.
TY doctor. My husband would not listen to me a retired Psychiatrist. Told him the same information 6 months ago. He said your Demo convinced him.

I’m currently suffering with severe knee pain , medication is bothering my stomach because I take it so often , I take OTC pain relievers. I am going to start this exercise tomorrow, I need some relief, thank you for this informative video.
I'd like to know what an orthopedic surgeon might think of your knee pain. Incredibly, if you haven't had x-rays and a physical examination, it could arise from your knee or your hip. Self diagnosis works sometimes, but often we just need professional hands-on help.
Good luck!
I succeeded in lowering my pain by going gluten free, off tomatoes and beans and all sugar and high glycemic foods; also doing water fasting as often as I can. No meds at all for almost 2 years after they destroyed my liver and pancreas...fasting has helped those heal as well.
How is it going?
Well did u try the exercise and did it work
I tried doing this exercise on a ski chairlift and it seemed to work for me. The ski boots, bindings and skis provide enough weight to make the exercise effective. Besides swinging your legs helps you pass the time on the lift while keeping your leg muscles nice and warm.
I love your exercise and helped me a lot! I am 68 years old and don’t know if possible please add more exercises for knees!
Really appreciated!!
More to come!

How are your knees doing now
Stopped doing this a few months ago, knee pain returned. Back on it now, definitely works, 🙏 thanks.
It's like any exercise, it only works if you do it. Just like squats, deadlifts, bench presses, curls, etc. You only get better if you continue

I’m trying this exercise! Each PT who treated my bad knees had me on ankle weights LIFTING my leg. After every visit the next day my knees would hurt like crazy. I'm definitely going to try this...I'm a 67 yr old female and have had knee issues since I was 12 when I dislocated my knee cap. Thank you for this!
I used a similar exercise when I got a 'Cold Shoulder' which extended down my arm. I literally couldn't sit up or lie down and couldn't sleep. So, I let my 'bad' arm DANGLE whilst holding a heavy bag of soil, with a handle, and gently swung the bag, letting my shoulder stretch out. At the same time, I leaned my head sideways onto the opposite shoulder, thus extending my 'bad' arm and shoulder out. When I was able I swung the bag higher and higher. My shoulder got better in a few weeks, but I would have had permanent scar tissue around a nerve had I not stretched out my shoulder and arm.
Thank you for sharing about your shoulder!
Llutf
When you say swing do you mean side to side outwards and across the front of your shins or back and forth? This could be most helpful Thank you
@@martinheath5947 + I swung the bag forwards and back, letting my arm dangle, and increasing the height of the swings as my shoulder improved. A side-to-side movement would probably be a bad idea as it would require actively using the muscles in your arm. The purpose is not to use the muscles, but to let them dangle and stretch out, at least in the beginning. When the pain starts to ease a bit you could start using the muscles more and employ more complex movements. I had to use Aspirin/Paracetamol to take down the inflammation. Hope this helps!
@@rapunzelmane9592 Thank you so much! Will give this a try because the exercises I've been given didn't involve any traction and aren't working Happy New Year
This looks like a very comfy exercise. Please be aware, if you are having knee or ankle replacements done, many of us suffer because when our 'new' knees/ ankles were put back together they made the tendons, ligaments, etc TOO TIGHT. Eventually exercise doesn't help any more. The plastic that fills in for lost cartilage wears out too soon (10-12 years) & more surgery is required. Ankles are MUCH more painful than knees.
Some years ago my doctor said to stop running, because I had ruined my right knee. Your demonstration with the use of ankle weights and feet dangling sounds promising. Dr. Story thank you for the great advise.
As a matter of interest! What was the Diagnosis!
My mom is doing this exercise 2x aday with 2lbs each ankle and it helps ease the pain when she is walking. Thanks to this video.

Cycling is excellent if you have knee issues, although if you have IT band issues they will show easily on a bike, but you can usually fix that with your seat setup and glute exercises. I had a ton of IT band pain running, when I started cycling 2 hours a day I didn't have any leg pain at all. You don't usually hear about pro cyclists having knee issues, but other issues like your back and ankles.
I'm a truck driver and I'm going to give this a try
How did it go?
So glad I came across you Dr!
I also use this for my shoulders.

In my late 50s, I was diagnosed with a torn meniscus and OA in my left knee. The stinging pain would settle into my knee at night and prevent sleep (except in certain knee-supported positions) and it got worse over time. This condition stopped me from being able to do daily dance aerobics or even walk more than a mile a day. The orthopedic doc offered a useless cortisone shot or a useless surgery to trim the torn meniscus; he had nothing to offer me for the nighttime pain and the OA. I worked with a PT for about 6 months and then two different chiropractors over the next year; I did ALL of their exercises and stretches without results. Then I happened upon this video and bought some 10-lb ankle weights. I noticed a difference immediately, and it made so much sense that I kept doing it 3 times a day for 3-5 minutes until I could walk as many miles a day as I wanted without pain. It only took a little more than a week before I was back to regular workouts. In 10 weeks, I lost the 20 lbs I gained while I suffered and wasted time, effort and money on these so-called experts. Now, I do the knee traction only when I've worked the knee hard and feel I need it. Sleep is normal again. I'm so relieved! THANK YOU. (BTW, the traction concept also works for one of my shoulders when I need it!)
Dear Kristin: That's an amazing story. I'm glad it helped you. Thank you for being a supporter of my channel. I was wondering if I can ask you a favor because it would help others get the same benefit. Would you be willing to write a review on google and yelp about your knowledge that you’ve gained from my CZcams channel? I would greatly appreciate it because it will help others maybe seek this information. Just tell the truth about what you’ve learned and how it has helped you. You can find me by typing Adam Story, Chiropractic Corp. If you don’t want to I understand, but thanks in advance if you would help!
I'm 50 yr old and my left knee is just wore out from oilfield work over the past near 27 years. I'm hoping this helps but really need to loose weight so definitely going to try and cycle.
How are you doing with this?
For best results have your knee replaced, you would not believe how great they feel. The pain you're having now will only continue to get worse, I had the same issue and three years ago had both replaced. Now there's no pain!
I hope this works for me !! Both knees have had ACL tears from sports injuries, years ago. . I’m 50 now and I’m paying the piper !!!
I hear you loud & clear, ditto!
Doeknob 24; Me too!!!😟
take one small UC - II capsule every day. Read the reviews. Type 2 collagen, not snake oil.
@@gregarioussolitudinist5695 What may I ask, is a small UC- II Capsule

Yes, yes. This is something I have found. When out in the park, walking the dog, I have to sit on every bench to do this movement, ``I am very short so if I tuck my seat to half back of the bench my feet are well clear of the ground and, YES, when I get up to walk again I am pain free for a while and ai repeat it at each bench all the way home! Never had this corroborated before so I am thrilled.......I will get some weights to see if it will be even better. I am on an everlasting waiting list for a total knee replacement (UK NHS) but no good holding my breath whilst COVID19 is rampant, eh? Thank
Hope you are doing well!
It Really Works. I endure a lot of pain going down the stairs which I prefer to the elevator. I am gonna do a lot of swimming this summer and try real hard to lose 30 Pounds this summer. I have done it before. I am 6ft but weigh 240 pounds. I am ashamed of this figure it is mainly because of my bad back and knees and not moving much. I am working on my back with a Neurologist
To see what is the best thing to do about it he’s very conservative and believes in non invasive treatment but if he has to operate it will be a minimal invasive surgery. I will consult with you Before I embark on any surgery.

This summer all this will change and I promise to post my New Weight And overall Health Condition. Thank You for your encouragement, exercises and support
I'll will be looking for my ankle weights tomorrow! I must try this because my knees hurt terribly. Thanks for the advice!
I was so discouraged when I went for my 6 monthly follow-up visit to my doctor after I spend 20 days in ICU with Covid Pneumonia in Sept last year. I NEVER had blood pressure issues but here I hit the 160/90. My Physician told me to monitor it for two months but that he will eventually have to put me on BP tablets. He said I must remember that I am getting older and I must expect deterioration like that. My blood pressure never exceeded 125/75.
Then I watched your video on how to get a constant BP reading and I immediately tried it. The reading at home went down to 119/78.! By the way, I am stage 2 diabetic after covid, 64 years old, play golf and Bowls and try to live a healthy life style. I was with this last visit taken of the Insulin injection and I am only taking tablets
NOW, Thinking about that day I went for the check-up it more or less went like this. The appointment was at 11h00. We rushed to town because there were things we had to do before my appointment. We could not find what we were looking for so we had some time to mark and decided to go for breakfast (a large one). We had to rush to be in time for my appointment. After running up the steps (3rd floor) we made it in time. We had to urgently call my medical aid to get an approval number for the check-up. ALL this contributed to the high BP reading I now realise.
I never felt like someone who had BP issues. What a relief! Thanks again.
I have had 3 knee operations on my left knee over the past 38 years, I suspect my next surgery could be a knee replacement, so I will do everything I can to prolong the knee. My last surgery was an arthroscopy back on 2010 & generally my knee feels good with some aches & pains from general living.
I've been doing this exercise for a week and it feels amazing. At the end of the exercise I have been allowing my leg to just swing back and forth to see how it affected the hip joint, I believe I got some relief there as well, Thank you I am going to become a subscriber.
Regards Scott
Cool!
I have been having knees pain for a while now and been doing lots of stretches in the morning. It worked for a bit but not anymore.
I swim 3 , 4 times a week for couple of hrs a week, but legs feels weak so don’t swim in the deep end of the pool.
Went to see my GP last week, he suggested painkillers tablets and was quick to suggest surgery. Not interested in either of his advice.
Just found your video, sounds good so I m gonna try that and wonder if I can find those leg weight somewhere on line.
Wish me luck.
