Just used JB Weld Steel Stik to fix a metal handle on a metal strainer. Metal handle was press welded to metal strainer which finally broken. Since I do not have a press welder, I thought this would be a good DIY experiment. Things I learned. 1) First, wash your hands to stop oils to getting into putty. 2) You do not need gloves to knead putty together. Texture is like play dough. 4) Use a dollop of putty to attach to surface, then remove excess. 5) File/sandpaper all surfaces to create good bond. First attempt (did not roughen surface) did not stick. Second attempt (after using Dremel sander) did the trick. 6) Do not knead longer than 2 minutes as product will get hot and hard to more you wait. However, once putty is placed on surface, hold with light pressure for 5 minutes, then wait an hour before testing the bond. (Tested bond after 30 minutes and bond broke). 7) Putty does not have a strong scent, but will add a dark grey color to your hands Regular soap and water will remove all the material. Good luck.
Bonds to rusty surface well. For underbody car I used this putty to fill holes then after set use regular jb weld over it been over a year and still looks strong surprisingly no surface rust on it. Bought por 15 to apply to it now expecting rust
Wow not the brightest crayon in the box I see 😂😂🤣 you shouldn't be needed this shit with bare hands
What happens if you try to knead it and it crumbles apart
@@nathancastillo764 it is dead
You covered it all, wish other products explained things as well.
It will work on aluminum. Had a 1981 Honda ATC 250r with a hole in the case. Previous owner used steel stick to stop oil from leaking. 15 years later it still holds strong!!
I have a crack in my 99 mustang in the motor oil pan. Just put some right now.. 🤞🏼
@@francisconavarro956Tx hows it holding up
@@LiilTyweezy just spotting
@@LiilTyweezy I think if I put another layer it will hold. But it’s not spotting too much
BMWs need to invest in this with all the oil leaks their cars provide 😂
Very thorough explanation, and personable delivery! This was exactly what I was looking for in figuring out how SteelStik works (I've only ever used the regular 2-tube liquid JB products). Thank you!
THANK YOU!!
The deck on my riding mower broke by the screw so I need something without welding!!!
Gonna try this!!
I used it to fix leaky gutter corners. Works perfectly. Nothing else worked. Try it out. It is an easy fix.
I used it to hold a brake line sealed for 2 days until I could buy the parts I needed. Worked well enough, just a 30 second drip which was surprisingly usable.
Great video, I wanted to see how it worked exactly before I went out and bought it. Thanks so much for this
Great stuff, Thanks
Drill a pilot hole into each side, scratch and clean with alcohol place a mini “rebar” into it kneed some JB onto ends before wrapping it with JB. It will be much more forgiving, worst case if it loosens up from strain then you can just put a tiny bit more on to reset. Good job you help a lot of people with this
Great tip. I would've also place something under it to keep it in place while it dries...rather than having to keep readjusting it.
just as i thot; he could have made a better job, w/studs or by tapping
I used this for some small holes on the truck as filler. The rust comes back. The places where I used Permatex Steel Weld are doing great. I used the JB Steelstik because of the faster set time. This summer, I will redo the JB with Permatix. JB says it doesn't rust but the rust is right on top of the JB Steelstik.
Thank you. Now I an open mine. Really appreciate the video
I once used this stiuf to firepair a rusted through spot on my car. i worked well, is sandable, and took paint well also. I've never owned a welder and have used JB weld product since i was a teenager in the 70s.
Thank you! I needed this video. :)
Thanks. I was about to throw a daybed and a patio chair or look for a handyman who’s a welder but this should do the trick until I do.
Iv used that in Australia and it goes hard as hell very good for some applications ,old jimmy (20 bucks a tube )
yep Knead-It here is the popular one
I've used SteelStik to repair a steel-braided air compressor hose (pump to tank). It works well enough as a temporary fix, even with all the heat and vibration. It does eventually fail though.
I got a pressure line I'm gonna use it on until the new hose arrives. Thanks for commenting this
Helpful video, you gave me my answer when you said it wouldn’t be good for non static applications. Thanks.
My mower deck had a huge crack in it. Clean it up, drill the end of the crack, slap some SteelStik. Working great!
I broke my pedestal style cast aluminum mailbox by losing my temper and shoving against it hard, the main support sheared off on the front and back and smaller pieces broke off with some piece that went missing. It was a house warming gift from my mother when I bought my home 15 years ago and she's gone now, plus I didn't want to spend the almost $250 to buy a new one. So I disassembled the whole thing and used both traditional JB Weld two part, applied between the pieces that would mate together and then Steel Stik to reinforce the repairs at the crack lines from the back and then more spread out over and beyond the crack lines so any future stresses on the mailbox, like from high wind or opening and closing, would be put on solid areas that hadn't been broken. I built up a couple layers, spreading out a little further with each layer and then also filled in any gaps where pieces were missing. Anyway, I matched the paint, reassembled it and two years later, you would never know. The front of the box gets opened and shut by the mailman and the side door gets opened and shut by me, all told about 50 times per month, 600 times a year. The wind and southwest sun beats on it. I use it on countless other things as well but the mailbox was the ultimate test...Steel Stik is strong and great stuff!
i am now a believer, Thank you! buying it for the metal leg of my coffee table that broke!
Did it work ?
@@AhmedKings no :(, i feel like trying to adhere another piece of metal to a flat metal surface/ base is hard, it's easier to mend to piece together if that makes sense...plus it's an arched leg and the weight of the table top didn't help when I turned it around on its feet after it dried.
Thanks! I was curious about it. I was thinking of using it for two seat tracks that I have bolted in as a extra hold.
Great video, and an honest video. Keep up the good work.
Very helpful video thank you sir!
good video, need a few of those to terminate a clanky manole cover nearby.
Permatex makes some also , prb same stuff . Works great for certain things as you said .
Used it on my CRF Honda bike radiator as a temporary fix ended up leaving it on as it worked perfect..
I used it on a motorcycle radiator, that had a huge hole in one of the cores. I didn't think it would hold, but it's been over a year and it's still holding tight, no leaks.
Fast forward to 2:30 if you want to skip this guy’s life story and see the product. (Sorry to be so jerky, but time is precious.)
Make a mold of your finials and replace them w/thermo plastic or even use the metal epoxy or even epoxy clay.
Very handy stuff!
Thank You so much for the information video
Is There anything J-B Weld can't do? it's the real handymans secret weapon!
Good tutorial and nice 👍👌 thanks for sharing 🙂
thanks for the good video.
I'm trying to attach some smaller steel plates to a swinging piece of rebar for a plinking target. Would only be shooting it with 22s. Do you think this stuff would hold it? Don't know any welders...
Brownsburg , Indiana represent! 😁
you, me, and McAfee
Great video! So now some 4 years later, what do you think of the product? Has it held up decently? Thanks!
Good job my man
Exallent job🙏🏽
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Thanks a lot.
Wow. Thank you
Should u have put a bit in the middle? Just pressed together, then put it around? Just curious...
Did you try any shock tests hitting it with a hammer etc..?
Thanks for the video
do you think that it will work for a level say for a brake?
Brother do you know any product for aluminium alloy joint..for engine material..
I don’t know does this work as Sharp corners on table because corner cover are too big for it and I need some kind of mouldable silicone that hardens
Great info!!!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you
thank you
Good job. Place something under it to keep it in place while it dries...rather than having to keep readjusting it.
Make a two piece mold of the piece. Then clean up the ends you are attaching to and tap a screw into it with the head hanging out about 1/2 inch. Pour the mold with a metal , or epoxy of your choice. Remove the mold and scratch with a light wire brush. paint.
Drill a pilot hole into each side, scratch and clean with alcohol place a mini “rebar” into it kneed some JB onto ends before wrapping it with JB
How much weight do you think it could hold?
I'm the same way about welding Iowa small cheap flux core I try to hide when I weld I'm getting better though
Are these found in Australia? as ive looked around but no go so far
Will it bond a zinc bolt to aluminum?
New sub brother love your channel
Nice and deep like lol love it!
Can it be sanded after it dries ?
Hi don't know if this video is too old, but I've used a similar product and didn't set tried twice ?
Awesome. 👍🏾
someone please help me.i put epoxy to the wrong thing.then how i want to remove epoxy putty steel?.
Can I use this to hold up my metal heat shield under the car or will it get to hot under there where it wouldn't work
Would you be able to put this on plastic
Thanks for the walk thru! Do you know if you can grind and shape it once cured? Thanks!
It doesnt grind like metal, kind of melts instead. Hope that helps. May be easier to sand?
@@IndyFarmLife good to know! I'll try the sander. Thanks
@@IndyFarmLife there is the same version but it is for automotive that is high temperature. After 8 hours cure time it can be drilled and tapped. It is called highheat.
I know this is old now, but I was thinking maybe it would have been even better if you put some in between the 2 pieces you were trying to bond?
Also, I'm pretty sure you are supposed to thoroughly clean both pieces with paint thinner or something.
Whatever works is good though.
I saw and something similar 30 or so years ago to fix a crash ked car radiator o a road trip it worked so well that when I got back home the radiator repair said it was not any reason to replace it which a weld repair so we left it .
does it work on plastic
thanks for the tip--looks like it's going to work. However the instructions quite clearly warn users to wear gloves...
Thanks, when you open it do you need to use all of it or you can store the excess?
God bless.
You can store it. I wrap it in plastic wrap and keep it in the tube it is sold in.
Does it dry ?
Delphi Indiana packers worker here
Any chance you know if I could put this on the head of a Allen head screw and make a mold of a screwdriver to remove it? The head is stripped and I have no clue if it’ll be hardened enough to be able to remove the screw
Worth a try, or ez out
It will not hold, impact or high heat, cigar lighter, will get it started. Then use a harbor freight cheapo hammer it into the hole while turning screwdriver with an adjustable wrench. Worst case you can drill through and RE-tap new threads. Good luck, Great question
⚠️ WARNING ⚠️ I know this video has been out for a while but if you read the instructions on the packaging it says"Wear gloves" and "DO NOT allow contact with skin".
Gotta love Indiana
ok! what about bicycles with crakes in the frame?
nice vid
Sure you are welcome
im gonna attempt to use it on cars center support bearing to hold it in place let yall know if it holds it
@MR. Allen it fucking works!!!!!!
Did it work
I'm tryin to bond my rear view to the metal clip on the window on my ml 500 I have the high temp it won't hold long enough to set do u think this could hold about 2lbs after about 5/10 mins if not any one have suggestion how to keep it on the windshield long enough to set clear tape isn't good enough lol
Turn the car upside down
@@dmod686 good one but I found something better if you ever need to bond metal to glass on a windshield use the steele stick and gorilla glue 20lb to 60 lb mounting tape it's the truth if you put this tape on paint garuntee it's commin with it fwi
Does this work for welding a hole in a gas tank?
They make one that’s gas proof
oh. very nicr
Guess i shouldn’t use that stuff for a little red waggon wheel that fell off… I don’t think I’m too scared to welding it back on with a propane torch I don’t want to be a long time since I’ve touched that….
Bust that welder out brother it’s easier than it seems for things like this remember the grinder is your best friend lol give it a shot!!
I've never been a good welder, but give me a lil piece shit MIG welder and grinder and goddammit you can hire me to weld a damn tank for your ass. 'MURICA 🇺🇲🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅
Gonna use it on a fuel tank hole. If I never post a follow up, assume it worked as intended.
Worked on my 91 Acura Legend tank that had a small leak. Weird stuff for sure..
Still holding ?
I am going to assume the car blew up, RIP OP 🪦
Wow
Getter Done ☑️
Can that be use to repair a car chasis anybody’s answer will be very appreciated
Yes it can. Just be sure to properly grind the area clean, just like if it were being welded. The JB weld needs a clean and scuffed surface to bond to. If you do that, the bond should be super strong and able to take a lot of pressure.
I would use gloves just to keep oil and contaminates from getting in the mix. Just my thinking.
Did you fix the one ? Are they holding great and strong ?
@@IndyFarmLife thanks I used some for a bath tub ring. Was told to replace entire tub 😭 found out about this steel stick and I'm bubbling in the tub. Someone broke the ring taking out the old spout. Fixed now. And now you've told me it is rock solid. We are good to go. Thank you
i will recommend use gloves cause is gonna get hot when you make a mold ..
Rubber gloves?
If you are concerned about health issues, epoxy putty can cause irreversible skin allergies and you should use either Nitrile or Vinyl gloves when handling it. Latex gloves won't provide enough protection. Also if sanding, you should wear a face mask because Epoxy dust is bad for your lungs.
I would think to make the bond stronger probably dont want to mix in skin oil.
I used it on Aluminum and it came apart like if I hot glued it. I waited the whole morning and I picked it up and it came apart ..
How did you prep the surfaces?
That's the issue. The surface must be scuffed up and clean, otherwise the epoxy will not bond to it properly. If you get a good bond, you'll never be able to get it apart again. I have bonded aluminum with it before, and it never came apart. Just be sure to rough up the surface really good first.
Fyi: You need to Clean-the-area and scuff-it-up if possible ( you do neither of these )
Prep is always key.
I think he said at the start of the video that he had it all sandblasted!
My experience is different than everyone elses. They stick to my fingers better than the piece I'm trying to repair.
How long does it last
Indefinitely. I have used JB weld on a metal table about 25 years ago, and it's still holding strong.
If you wait 2 hours after kneading it, before applying to project, it will be strong as hell. Helpful hint.
Waiting only 5 minutes after kneading it is only strong enough for light use.
Agusnta presion d gas refrigerante pata tapar fugas d nevera
My instructions said to use gloves.
Is it magnetic ?
It has steel in it. It is not magnetic, but it sticks to a magnet. I know as I just used it on broken subwoofer. Dried epoxy stuck to the magnet just like metal.
A comment for the Almighty Algorithm. Thanks this was prefect for me needs.
Haha thanks
from where i can buy it?
Walmart Home Depot, online
Auto zone
Disney World.
FYI.... the instructions say (wear gloves & avoid direct skin contact!) TO CLEAN YOUR SURFACES w/ a DETERGENT/DEGREASER 1ST, THEN ROUGH UP SURFACES w/ FILE or COARSE PAPER prior to application. this may have been your issue bruddah 👍🏼
I can't stand when people don't read the instructions. It just shows that some of them are ignorant.
TOM ..... it’s ignorance for sure man!!
BUT... what’s the word for when you don’t read the instructions about the product you’re making a TUTORIAL VIDEO ABOUT????? 🤔
TOM - besides “SCARY” of course....
You definitely need to read the instructions on this stuff. That’s what makes it SIMPLE
The product warns the use of gloves, did you notice any irritation from handling it?
I’ve done this without gloves...the smell left on your fingers is the worst.
