    Great tips! From what I know as well is letting the bait sit on the dead sticking allows the weights inside to shift and give a subtle rolling,. Drives bass nuts!

    Two quick gear-related jerkbait tips…realistically, the only colors you *need* are a dark and light pattern of your local forage fish and a transparent. If you’re gonna specialize in jerkbaits, obviously you wanna expand that…but that’s your main color palate. Im more of a jig “specialist” so a few colors is all I need and they do a great job. As far as combos go…go as light as you can realistically afford. I use a st croix victory 68mxf/metanium and it’s DYNAMITE. I can’t bring myself to dedicate one of my NRXs or conquests to reaction fishing but the victory line is a perfect compromise. For $200, it’s as light and comfortable as an NRX at the expense of sensitivity. If you dig into your preferred brand’s offerings a bit, I’m sure you can find something similar. St Croix isn’t the only company with the “genius idea” of making lightweight rods at a reasonable price.

      I’m glad to hear that, that is the answer. I was looking for I fish tons of square bills, Texas rigged creature baits, and a lot of jigs too but new to jerk baits. I just thought they best mimic the movement and profile of the bait fish I’ve seen in the area. They seem to stop and dart and stop and are skinny as a rail. Fishing with a rainbow trout colored lure today, I’m actually about to get out of the truck and get in water. Looking to get some translucent jerk baits for ultra Clearwater.

  • @uneathharrison
    @uneathharrison Před 2 lety

    Why use heavier flouro when fishing shallow. Flourocarbon sinks. Also with having smaller treble hooks wouldn’t you want mono that doesn’t sink but more importantly with a trouble hook bait have some stretch to keep the the fish from head shaking the hooked hole bigger. Kinda like having a rod with more parabolic bend to keep pressure but also give more. These are just questions. Im not good at jerk bait fishing also haven’t spent much time doing it but Im making it a goal to start throwing it more and become confident in it.

    • @jeremypierce1607
      @jeremypierce1607 Před 2 lety +1

      They heavier flouro will have more surface area and not fall as fast. He doesn't need the mono stretch because he is using a parabolic crankbait rod. Most people fish jerks on a lighter action or more parabolic rods. The best jerkbait angler I know personally fishes them on a medium 6'9 spinning set up.
