- The New Pavlov update, Update 29, is the first major update to Pavlov in over a year. Which was exciting to hear since Pavlov was the VR shooter for a while. I've been waiting for them to answer to Contractors domination of the VR shooter space. But it just feels like old Pavlov with slightly better paint. It is a nice update, but unless you are only on PSVR2, it's kind of sad to watch all your custom maps evaporate in front of you.

The biggest issue with the update is that Sony have a name censoring system that considers way too many things as offensive. Bass is censored along with black, hell even the word pigeon is censored so instead of having no name they give you a random different name that you cant change.
Why would bass be considered offensive?

the quest 2 kinda stagnated everything cus thats were the players are so devs had to handicap their games to make sure tey could run on the quest 2 the reason pavlov wasn't updated in so long is because they were focused on the qust version

I've witnessed a real life female in pavlov a whole awesome two times in the 1k hours
Graphics wise, the main thing I noticed was the materials were a lot nicer. In lamens terms, shiny objects look shinier and textures look less blurry and have more realistic properties to them. The lighting is also better. I'd say the only issue with the graphics is that a lot of moving objects like characters and guns don't cast shadows, which makes them look flat when they ragdoll on the floor. If they add shadows to those I will be eternally happy
How's the performance? AFAIK UE5 is supposed to run better than UE4

I think one of the bigger poits of this update, which is way more backend, is the new modkit. Mods have the potential to be more in depth and closer to contractors
That would be really awesome. Modded contractors is seriously impressive stuff. I really hope we get the mods on the PSVR2 as well. I think youtube videos of PSVR2 players playing CoD maps would sell more PSVR2s than any of Sony's ads could ever do. Those maps looked great on Quest 2, they'd look freaking amazing on PSVR2 and PCVR I think.

Apparently you can play the older mods/maps that were removed by switching the game to beta mode and choose the legacy option. It’s pretty simple (done it on other games before) and that’s all the info they gave abt it, but I can’t tell if there’ll still be servers up for that, and if there are, then I still doubt enough people will do that to fill a lobby for the specific map you want.
I need someone to know this: I'm playing tears of the kingdom while watching, and at the exact same time 5:05 as the fart but threatening sound hits, I'm also entering the depths in Zelda which triggers the most threatening sound. It was a magical moment that I will never forget.

@@eijmert That isn't true. I play both games on Steam and pavlov tended to be pretty empty while contractors I always find games. I have Quest 2 but I prefer to get the PC version of games if it exists ('cus modding or not trusting FB).

Interesting philisophical question; Is something still noticeable if you have to look for it?
It touches on interesting philosophical and psychological ideas such as attention and perception. When you are looking for something you are inherently pouring your focus into finding that particular object. Eventhough an enhanced focus on finding something might make the object more noticeable, it can't the only factor at work. The question also poses the obvious problem that often noticeable things are not things you're looking for in the first place. But it isn't even guaranteed that all noticeable things are noticed. In psychology this is discussed via selective attention tests. You're tasked with focussing on a specific thing, your focus is 100% on that task, so some noticable things that aren't important to the task will not be noticed. (the selective attention test with the gorilla is a perfect example.) Furthermore, when looking for something in specific it can create certain expectations about the object you're looking for. The possibility of your expectations being wrong are always there.
I could type more bullshit, but the essence of the problem is as following; Perception and noticibility are difficult terms. Multiple factors have influence if something will be noticeable or not. And multiple factors have influence on your perception. Sadly this way the question remains unanswered. But I will try to answer it anyways.
Is something still noticeable if you have to look for it? In the context of noticing the highly detailed ground textures of unreal engine 5, I think not. Unless you had the intention of looking for ground textures in general. Even then I'm of the opinion that things that you're not looking for are often more noticeable than ones you are looking for. Because of the paradoxical nature of the inherent problem I think the jury is still out in this question.

Thank you for playing my Halo Sandtrap map! I was quite surprised to see it here. Made my day.
Unfortunately a lot of the features I made for the old version broke during the port to the new version, stuff like fully working energy swords with launch capabilities, and a pelican you can ride! As well as a bunch of custom chief player skins and vehicles to play with.
The old version still holds up pretty well IMO, it's good to hear the compliments considering how much effort went into making the textures and colours as close as I can to the original.

I think the big deal was a *lot* of under the hood changes were made. The game SEEMS normal for the most part. It SEEMS like they nuked customs, added better textures and added much more dynamic hands, added prone and that's all. Yet it's not just that. The whole engine was reworked, they turned the game into crossplay, and they released a full-on modkit for modders to give them so much more power than ever before. I'm very excited for when new mods start coming out again.

Pavlov has always been my go to vr fps to play super search and destroy, bigger teams with health and revive items enabled. I love this update primarily for the faction specific weapons, now we are able to fit more weapons on the buy menu that before didn't fit and more weapons end up getting used than before.
i got to say mr. habie, you've got to be the most likeable youtuber on this platform. you're just giving off those positive vibes everytime you upload a video, i hope to get a new oculus quest 2 in a few weeks because i want to mess around with my friends like you and cory. you're a great guy, keep up the amazing videos!

I'm very fond of the fact that you make videos revisiting games. Most treat all game reviews vr or not as a one and done kind of thing
I'm really surprised that you can't tell how much of a difference UE5 made. The shadows alone are blowing my mind compared to old pavlov, might be the new shading on the models looks better but players used to stick out like a sore thumb due to weird lighting.
They also added bloom lighting. Aswell as actual lighting from muzzle flash

I remember playing Pavlov at a friends house for the first time YEARS ago, so it was obviously my first go to VR game when I got my VR not long ago.
Ue5 looks amazing and plays way smoother on my 3070 but nobody is playing anymore. The game is as good as dead on the new ue5 update :c

after watching one of your vids for like the 20th time Ive subbed, you win you bastard.
Same, Pavlov was my go to FPS VR game until the dev went silent to work on the PSVR2 version of this game and so it naturally got replaced by Contractors VR. But even though Contractors VR is my new go to, I still come back to Pavlov for its Push game mode as its basically kinda like Battlefield.
I know there is a Battlefield mod in Contractors but there is no servers hosting it. Even if there is, it was a pretty small group of people.
how can you enjoy contractors a game where it takes 30 bullets to kill 1 player???? i uninstalled cause the FAL did as much damage as a BB gun.

The psvr support I actually do like since it will help the player base stay somewhat decent the issue is idk about mods working on it which might be an issue after a bit

As a quest user. This is so refreshing. Having a friends list and being able to make private matches, play custom maps downloaded natively is so awesome! Also the new TTT is weird. Also we finally have sniper scopes

I currently have a rift s and was thinking about upgrading to quest 2 for r mabey wait for 3. Pavlov is my favorite and I have a lot of steam vr games. Does habie use certain headsets for certain games. Can I still play all my titles if I upgrade?

The thing with qol updates is that they stack over time to make a game a lot better and polished instead of a huge content update that gets boring after like a week

With the engine upgrade, all custom maps have to be fixed for the new engine. So all those maps should come back as people port them to ue5

I think the best way to describe this update is a polish of systems. Adding prophunt/infection to official servers so you don't have to find a custom game. Adding a specific tap for browsing mods so its easier to find things. Plus resetting the custom maps while getting better graphics allows them to filter new content a bit better and work on reining in abusive mods. Which became a problem this pat few months.
Im pretty excited about this because Pablov essential got a much needed reset so when the custom content starts coming out again I think it will be a lot better to play it and revitalize the game.

@@elibrainless90 Ya. Over the last few months whenever you went into a lobby I would say about 35% of the time you would have a moderator/adim in your lobby and they would just screw with the game. It was really annoying
