He's a leading contender but British heavyweight boxer Dillian Whyte says he's not getting a fair shot at a world title. Some commentators see it as a stitch-up.
BBC Newsbeat has spent the last eight months following the 30-year-old, following every twist and turn as he fights for his chance to compete for a title. It's looking like there's a chance of having another crack at old rival Anthony Joshua, who has 3 of the world belts. Then there's being made mandatory challenger against Deontay Wilder. Will any of these pan out?
We start with day 1 of the camp to prepare for Whyte's fight with Derek Chisora, Newsbeat's sports journalist Eleanor Roper investigates what it takes to be a top class boxer and the business of bagging a title shot.
Dillian Whyte: Fighting to be Champ is a Newsbeat documentary made by the people who do the news on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra.

This should be about the corruption in the WBC.
We Be Crooks
Boyd It ain't the WBC's fault Whyte turned down a title shot with the Amazing AJ. Last year Whyte failed to comply with the WBC. They did not bounce him out of the top 10 rankings in fact he is still at the top spot. So much for the corrupt WBC. The Whyte Parker fight was corrupt as all fuck! He fouled up the joint so bad it stunk and then in the last round Lewis peeled him off the mat.
@@attilathehun0 Shows how much you know about boxing, the WBC title is held with Wilder, not Joshua. He's ranked #1 and holds the Silver WBC World Title, but now they're calling Wilder's Mandatory with Brazeale, who's ranked #2 with the WBC.
The WBC situation has nothing to do with Joshua.
@@artemislogic5252 WTF?😜🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The title of this video Is Dillian Whyte being held back unfairly for a title shot. Fact the whole point of the Parker route was AJ in April he turned that down!
Dillian Whyte last year refused to do what the WBC told him to do. Who's fault is that? Dumb Dumb Whyte's fault!
Did you even bother reading what I completely wrote or is it a your one sentence selection. Dillian Whyte hold's the WBC Silver who the fuck cares? It's a God Damn Junior Belt!
As for Brazeal that's Fury's Fault! Brazeale was the Mandatory before Whyte! Just learn to deal with it!
It's not WBC's Fault! It's not Wilder's Fault. It's Dillian Whyte's Fault! He did it to himself!😜😜😜
@@artemislogic5252 Is it the WBC's Fault that Whyte turned down AJ? Is it Wilder's Fault that Whyte turned down Joshua? Or is it Dillian Whyte's Fault? He was offered 7x more $$$ than he ever made before and he did not take it!
Dillian Whyte is the real deal. I wish him all the best.
@aaron pryor You win some you lose some. I have nothing but respect for this man he's prepared to fight anyone no cherry picking with this guy REAL HEAVYWEIGHT!
Forget joshua forget belts I want you to iron out fury I think your mustard
Thanks
I
I'm sure he's been cleared of any wrong doing!
Dillian Whyte is a chisora clone fury will knock him out
As James Toney once said, the wbc stands for we be crooks
He hasn't been held back from a world title shot. He was offered £5M to fight Joshua at Wembley and declined it.
And if we won joshua wanted the lion share in the rematch how is that fair as the champion you get the big cut
He rather become mandatory and take a smaller share and get the lion share in the rematch and with a mandatory you dont have to have a rematch unlike a voluntary
That was a bullshit offer. Big Baby Miller is getting 10 million and hes beat nobody.
Jamie Walsh That’s because Miller is an American making him more popular in America and is getting overpaid because he is fighting AJ for AJ’s American debut which DAZN are investing heavily for
@Jamie Walsh, Miller is being paid by DAZN who have deeper pockets than Matchroom
@The Kingpin, Whyte was within his rights to turn down the offer if he felt that it didn't represent his value. It doesn't change the fact that he had the opportunity to fight for 4 belts, for multimillions with the added incentive of becoming the biggest star in world boxing if he wins.
Not exactly been deprived of a title shot has he? He had one, and declined it.
If you follow IFL TV you know all this already
Michael H with umar ifl umar, he's doing well sexually
Let the man eat
Yes, but you wouldn't have heard any of it due to IFL never failing to disappoint with their crappy sound equipment.... and you would've been distracted by Kugan's constant pouting and bendy legs.

The title of this video is a stitch up. I can guarantee Whyte wouldn't be happy with it - he allowed you into his life for 8 months and you do him like this.
Change the title
Edit: That's more like it man. You're welcome Dylan 😏
@Martin Collins 'Why Whyte will never be world champion'
Clickbait and straight up not true... He's as much chance as any other elite heavyweight - people seem to forget he beat AJ in amateurs and nearly dropped him in their title fight
Ben terrible title. Thanks for making them change it!
Dillian is being paid millions to step down by the WBC because money is more important to him than the glory of winning a world title ! You heard it here first !
Kerr Prince promoters usually pay step aside money, not sanctioning bodies.
That’s the bbc for you fake news all the way
Dillian is being unfairly overlooked for lower level opponents for the so called champions. It's time to put a heavyweight tournament to find the REAL champion and these fighters need to stop being scared of losing their O's.
Good show. Can’t wait for the next one. Loads of story’s to be told.
Dillian and his big coat 😂😂😂
Unfairly Joshua offered him another shot he turned it down 🥴
Wayne Power not enough money unfair
Alex Tovey what 4million how much do you need and it said it wasn’t the money it was the rematch clause why you never signed
Bahahaha
It's a heavyweight title shot. Take the lowball and win the belts. Now call the shots.
Yeah for a ridiculously small amount of money. 4 million. Joshua turned down 50 million to fight wilder, so why would dillian take only 4 million! It’s aj whose the fraud! Got bashed up Ruiz anyway, Joshua ain’t got nothing that dillian wants.
I really hope he becomes champ one day soon no matter what language he tark in 😂😂👊
Respect to Dillian Whyte he is working hard
Joshua offered Dillian a shot to fight for 3 belts but he turned it down....wtff ????
Cos when you've jumped through the hoops the WBC set and you're their number one ranked for years you expect the shot at wilder and then the AJ fight is even bigger
@@gilesmerlin8927 - I know he couldn't see into the future. If he had he would have accepted the Joshua fight. The lesson learned and which he already knew deep down, that boxing is now a very corrupt sport, accountable to no one but the general public who accept the bullshit because they love to watch fighting, so basically they will always remain unaccountable for the corruption. At the end of the day its about which decisions will promote the networks and governing body personal and financial interests
For Small money. Pay the man his worth
Mista Anderson Get the belt then call the shots.
@@e12daniel Mate. You can't expect him to fight Chisora & Joshua for the same money. It doesn't make good business sense
Held back by Wilder and the WBC, yes. Not by AJ though. He turned down the Joshua fight, so he held himself back.
Whytes team had 2 opportunities to make the Ortiz and Breazeale fights happen which were for the mandatory wbc spot. Nothing.
@@christophersmith3254 Whyte already fought a final eliminator against Hellanius to become mandatory, he won, and then the WBC made Brazeale the mandatory. - He already went through that process to become the mandatory against Hellanius, but what you said isn't correct anyway since they just decided to make Brazeale the mandatory.
The UK has the three best heavyweights on the planet 🇬🇧
Ortiz and wilder would have something to say about that
N S They’ll get slapped
@@Ancient_RoadOrtiz is in his rocking chair.
@@lichade2008 Ortiz did look old in his last fight, not on the level of AJ or Wilder but he'd still be the favorite against top guys like Whyte or Pulev. Let's get this Whyte Ortiz fight before Ortiz is forced to retire
I like your funny comment. Putting AJ on the same page as Wilder already tells me you have no knowledge of boxing. On top of that, you put Ortiz ahead of Whyte. Whyte is the WBC, WBO ranked number 1 contender and he is also number 4 in the WBA. Whyte's fitness levels since he fought Joshua has improved enormously. We all know that Wilder is ducking Joshua because he already made that clear in a statement he made recently. Whyte would slap both Wilder and Ortiz. Whyte has been in the mandatory position for 2 years to fight Wilder. I find it strange that he was willing to fight Tyson Fury because he thought he is a big name in boxing and an easy target because his lack of fights and fitness. On top of that he would prefer to fight Breazeale instead of Whyte. Who is currently 4th with the WBC. Lets face facts... Wilder and Ortiz are both wet wipes. Wet wipes that smell of lavender to sanitizes the smell of shit when you wipe the skidders off each arse cheek.
Maybe I dreamt it but I’m fairly certain he just turned down an offer of £5 million for a shot at 3 world titles. No issue with Whyte’s decision if he believes he’s worth more than that but just can’t understand people saying that he’s been treated badly by Matchroom.
4 million is peanuts compared to how much money he generates.
Deliberately low balled him so he refused the fight.
He got similar money to fight Chisora. Think about it.....
Dillian is a good fighter and just as importantly for boxing an entertaining fighter. I've been entertained by each one of his fights and he represents value for money with anyone he steps in the ring with. Hel get another chance because people like watching his firefighting style. Do you remember when 90% of fights went 12 rounds with no knockdown and all defence and the other 10% were 1st round knockouts I'm glad there's people with a chin and a heart like dillian around to pick boxing back off the floor and make it something worth watching again. It seemed for a while that mma was going to take over but thanks to great fights like aj-dillian or chisora - dillian (1and2) that is now off the cards and boxing is once again the true test of man vs man. Good luck to him I say. Edit: or woman vs woman
That was a great little insight. Backing Dill to realise his ultimate dream.
Whyte is gradually building a really solid fan base. He seems a good genuine guy and it's reflected in his popularity.
I'm a massive whyte fan and yes I was behind him shouting why aint he had a title shot yet. But when he TURNED Down The aj fight because he 'knows' his worth I said from that point on I DONT EVER WANA HEAR ABOUT HOW he hasn't had a shot yet. I'm still a big fan but he turned down a chance to fight for 3 world titles because they weren't paying enough. And to honest he'll probably turn down the wbc mandatory slot aswell when they offer him 25% of 10m or so because that'll be alot less than he turned down for aj, I can see him saying 'I'm the A Side vs wilder I aint fightin him for 25% I know what I'm worth. Let's be real whyte ain't getting a shot anytime soon as no champion will offer a challenger 5050
The issue is with Wilders belt, not AJ's
Turned down a secondary mandatory eliminate by w.b.c... Then turned down title oppuntity against AJ due to money!!.. Even thow AJ. Put him too sleep
because a secondary eliminator against a dangerous opponent like Ortiz was not worth the risk.
Whyte constantly takes the piss out of Ortiz but he clearly was worried about facing him!
He was asked to take a ridiculously small cut of the money for the AJ fight. He ain’t gonna sell himself short.
And by the way AJ turned down 50 MILLION for a shot at wilder. Dillian turned down only 4 million. So whose the fraud? It certainly ain’t dillian.
Humanforfreedom 95 Whyte had nothing too loose and everything to gain fighting AJ.... Four belts in fact... Money shouldn't for into it.... Even thow it was 6 million!!! His hasn't even made half that in any of his fights... But what does aj get out of fighting Whyte.... His already knocked him out...
I don’t want to see dillion vs Joshua. Joshua has already knocked him out I want wilder vs whyte now that would be a great fight
Very different whyte now
This should be about the WBC, Joshua offered Whyte the fight and he turned it down for whatever his reason was. Meanwhile the WBC are actually blocking him at every turn.
You can't be 'unfairly held back from a title shot' when you have turned down £5 million to fight for a title...
Then why is an unknown boxer like Miller getting £8 million to fight AJ and whyte getting offered £5million?
@@TevronPlays There's more money available in total for the Miller fight than the Whyte fight, presumably from DAZN paying over the odds to have AJ fight in the US

Yea can't argue with that your right in terms of items like belts and stuff but bloody hell he fights in paper view constantly now pay him like a human anthony has everything but he ain't some kind of god he can be beaten dillian would accept the fight if the rematch clause was fair but your telling me if he beats aj still the same terms that's bullshit and greedy
@@jabbadan4855i agree. AJ is the best out there right now. but he isn't faultless. He can be beat. He doesn't like the temple shots man.
I watched an interview where Hearn and Whyte were together and Hearn said the rematch clause ended up being 50/50.
Whyte is probably one of th3 greediest HWs out there. He has constantly taken the money foght over the career fight over the last few years. I don't blame him. But also, don't bitch about money when you have no leverage.
@@seandonoghue2347 why should the rematch be 50/50 if dillian whyte wins when it ain't that split in the beginning all dillian is saying is whatever the deal is now if he win it should reverse in the rematch that's fair ... but still dillian needs to realise as well that aj is the golden goose right now and you have to be the b side before you become the a sides and call the shots "mayweather quote" lol with all this being said I still think aj just has dillians number no matter what not that he is better but just knows how to beat dillian
Whyte is his own worst enemy and wasn't held back at all. Let's be clear Joshua made a £4M offer to Whyte and he refused the offer. Who's fault is that??? Please enlighten me as to the last time Whyte stood to make £4M???
I think we all know the answer to that.
If he's really the 'Can' man why didn't he take the offer.
About time this was brought into the spotlight...
🙂 Great doco 👍🏽👍🏽 Dillion Whyte definitely deserves a fair shake at a title shot. No low ball offers please.
After Oscar Rivas, hopefully either WBO announces The Body Snatcher as the mandatory or WBC orders the next fight for mando following Wilder vs Breazeale.
Surely WBCs Suliman must've told him something to positive to think about coz Dillion didn't look too disappointed after that meeting. Keen to see how this plays out! 👍🏽

what is that music at 25:09? it fits really well
joshua offered him a title shot, a chance to get 3 belts and make about 6 million at the same time,,,,he turned it down
That's a one sided story and opinion, there was a clause in that contract that said if whyte won he would have to do a 60-40 split in a rematch in Joshua favour, but he would be the champion then so why would that make business sense!!
@@paulrobinson1196 even if that were the case, it would still be a big deal and a big opportunity for Whyte. The fact is that AJ holds the belts and commands the crowds so he has to call the shots. If Whyte took this opportunity and was good enough, he would have been the on calling shots one day.
@@easyware yeh but that's exactly it no he wouldn't be calling the shots as Hearn and AJ still called the shots on a rematch even if whyte won!!
Paul Robinson I’m a big fan of both but I have to agree ,if whyte said yes to there terms and he beat Joshua in the second fight plus the rematch ,then Joshua would be forgotten about and he would be the new face of boxing making the terms and demands
He's going to be Joshua's mandatory anyway in the future, and Joshua wanted a majority split even if Dillian won the fight in a rematch. It would be a bad business mistake to take that offer when he's soon to be called as mandatory anyway.
I like the way he offer tea after very long nigth😍😍😍
I like dillian Whyte I'm a massive fan but he was offered good money for the chance to become a champion and fight Joshua but he turned it down to take a different route because he wanted to take the belt from Wilder and maybe have a bit more of a bargaining chip when it comes to negotiations with Joshua.
Aj needs to fight Wilder and Fury before he Rematches Whyte. He had an offer and diddnt like the money.
How can I feel for Dillian. He had the title shot an lost. You no how many guys woulda luved to had that opportunity jus for the money.
He hasn't fought in a title fight. AJ became champion after he beat Whyte.
Unfairly? He chose not to fight for the mandatory spot for the WBC (wilder's belt) and he chose not to fight for the mandatory spot for the wba (AJ's belt), and then turned down the AJ fight.
Christopher Smith he would have got less money to fight Joshua than he did against chirsora and Dominic decided to fight wilder instead

@@artemislogic5252 just for the record dominic was the WBC number one contender for over 9months. Whyte is the WBC silver champion and the rules demands he fights a final elimination against ortiz who whyte turned down, to fight to guys who was not in the title mix. So he did it to himself. Smh

Apart from the fact, he declined an offer to fight for 3 belts in a mega-fight with AJ because he thought he was worth more money. Dillian is a great boxer and is well liked but please stop with the BS story he's been held back. He wants to fight Wilder because that is the easier option for him to gain a belt and go into a mega fight with AJ for considerably more money.
Wrong. He turned it down because they offered him the same as they gave him for chisora..which he was willing to take if he got rematch if he won and was given the Joshua percentage. But even if he beat him he was still getting shit in rematch. Greedy Joshua. Only champ he beat was Joseph Parker. All the rest were vacant and he demands this 😂😂😂
@@arthurmorgan7086 Casual......🙄. Dillian got offered a career high payday, DW's "issue" was the rematch percentage. No shitty money was on offer, just millions of pounds and the opportunity to beat the cash cow of the heavyweight division and the career boost that comes with that. He needs to fight for that belt. But his best chance now that AJ failed this past weekend is he takes another lose then fight the new guy on top for his straps. He not beating Wilder so his dreams will be crushed if he takes that road. But I guess that’s what will most likely happen. Sucks cuz I would like the guy to win a belt. The fact that Dillian Whyte has not been given a title shot PROVES boxing is corrupt. There needs to be an uncompromising investigation.
Let's be right, whyte obviously deserves his title shot, he's beaten real top contenders placed infront of him, then people saying he's running away from ortiz are deluded, why would he be scared of him? When he's shared the ring with Parker who himself has great boxing skills and been in the ring with Joshua who has more power than ortiz.. Then he clearly rejected the Joshua fight as he felt that he didn't have enough time to prepare for the biggest fight of his life, then Joshua wasn't currently being drug tested etc when whyte was, then after all of that he feels like he is worth more than other fighters who Joshua has been with such as povetkin as he clearly brings more to the table as he sells more tickets and is up there as probably the 4th best heavyweight in the division behind the top 4,and why should he take the fight for example on a 70/30 split and then if he wins has to take the rematch and still only get 30 percent when he would have more to offer as he would have the belts.
Your right aj is a fake god everyone bows down too ... dillian has earned his right and deserved to be treated with respect because he is a top opponent
