Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles We Wish You a Turtle Christmas (1994) from Family Home Entertainment. On Christmas Eve the Turtles realize they've forgotten to get Splinter a gift. They hit the town to try to figure out what to get him, their kid fans join them and lots of singing, dancing and some rapping and shenanigans ensues.

As someone whose introduction to TMNT was the ‘03 show, it’s always weird to see what kind of things the Turtles were involved in during the 90s.

I have a soft spot for this because the Coming Out of Theur Shells was my first concert when I was in kindergarten. Stiry goes my Dad wanted to see Tina Turner. My Mom wanted to go to Michael Bolton. The compromise was the Turtles concert when it was touring at Great Woods in Massachusetts. The Turtles doing music is just part of the lore to me at this point.

I think they did make another one with these exact costumes. I remember them being on stage in a band, the whole thing was just the Turtles in concert and it was these costumes. They also did the Ninja Rap from the movie. But yeah I don't want to ever hear anyone complain about Ninja Turtles 3 and the Next Mutation costumes when these Turtles exist.
Yeah, the other VHS was called Turtle Tunes. Plus there were not one, but two TMNT live stage concerts: Coming Out of Their Shells, and its sequel, Getting Down in Your Town.
I grew up with the original TMNT comic book and even got stage show tickets to their coming out of their shell tour when it came to Baltimore Maryland. That said this Christmas special makes the TMNT 3 movie look like an Oscar winning Scorsese film.
I had a friend in college who loved Savage Dragon and the TMNT comics. She despised the cartoon, which really surprised me. I don't remember how she felt about the original film, but really how could anyone not like that movie?

Honestly? I love this special because it's so bad, it's hilarious & fun to watch. I watched it around the end of November this year because I have tasked myself with exploring everything turtles due to a series of fics I'm working on where eventually, I plan to crossover in as many timelines & iterations that I can manage to squeeze in & my initial thought was to get We Wish You a Turtle Christmas out of the way as quickly as possible so it's the one I decided to do for the holiday season & I had a blast watching it. Had to break to refill my coffee cup just after Gotta Get a Gift For Splinter, that thing was stuck in my head as I was refilling & I couldn't stop giggling thinking about this special.
By the way, the plot for this series of fics is that due to the events of Turtles Forever, random rifts throughout time & space within the turtles multiverse are opening up, drawing the attention of various turtles so 87 Donatello hops over to the 03 universe to enlist the help of those turtles to fix the issue. That was the setup in the Halloween fic I wrote, the 03 gang were dealing with a turtle tot Rise Donnie who jumped through the rift, thinking that it was aliens bringing him back to his home planet (Rise turtles find out their origins within their series so I played around with the concept of them not knowing where they came from a bit here) so the poor 03 turtles have to deal with the menace. 87 & 03 Donatellos realize that there's probably so many more misplaced turtles throughout the multiverse & since it's because of them (well their Shredders but really, they're responsible for them) that this issue is occurring, they're the ones who have to go locate all of the misplaced turtles & take them to where they belong. It's like that Magic School Bus game where you find animals in the wrong habitat & relocate them to the correct one.
What did I do for the holidays? I won't use his name as I explain this in case people don't want to be spoiled on the turtle's identity. The Last Ronin/We Wish You a Turtle Christmas crossover. Ronin pops in when they're nearing the end of the Twelve Days of Christmas & Splinter totally messes up on singing after hitting 12. The captions are so off but it was hard to determine his stumbles, they put in "hockey table" & I decided to leave it in when writing the fic because Splinter wasn't sure what he was saying anyways, might as well capture the confusion with it. It's when Splinter gives the attempt at some heartwarming message & mentions helping those less fortunate than them when I had Turtle Christmas Mikey point over to Ronin with the framed pizza in hand & ask, "like that guy?"
Have to admit, writing for these turtles was just as much fun as watching this special like Leo using 90's slang, yes please! Rise Leo isn't the only outlier when it comes to the Leonardos, Turtle Christmas Leo is even more far removed & I love it.
Yes, this is an insane crossover, I had a tab with Turtle Christmas open & the Last Ronin in my lap, going in between those two in order to work on the crossover, they're night & day. I had to listen to both the Twelve Days of Christmas & We Wish You a Turtles Christmas so many times over like those songs were rotating being stuck in my head all month long with Gotta Get a Gift For Splinter popping up sometimes too. I needed the last song because they slip into it in order to get Ronin involved in the festivities while waiting for their pizza delivery to arrive. I had to listen to parts in order to pin down what was happening while Ronin has a conversation with one of the hallucinations on the matter.
Will say that I actually gained respect for this Splinter by writing for him. Had me realize that he's happy about the presents he got from his sons because they're things they enjoy & he's reminded of how much he loves his sons whenever he plays video games or eats pizza. Actually had him talking alone with Ronin & giving him advice like dang, I didn't think I'd care about this fluffy Splinter but I do.

Last Christmas season I was insanely busy and there was a lot going on so I didn’t have much time for CZcams. There’s still a lot of holiday content that I need to catch up on but this is one of the very best videos that I’ve seen ever in your lineup! Cowabunga! Always love your ninja turtles videos! Great job! Also yes it would be a real treat to hear your thoughts on more mislanicious TMNT content like coming out of Our Shells, or Next Mutation or something like super Saint Turtles from Japan. Phelous is amazing and his channel has already covered quite a bit of Turtles content and many other fans cover it too but you are so uniquely funny in your own way and I would truly love to hear your thoughts on many of them! Definitely please share more events like this and pick your favorite strange Ninja Turtles feature from any series or era or even a strange ninja turtles comic book or video game and I will certainly support you! I think this special is a little uncanny but i think that's what makes me love it so much- it's so goffy and weird especially like when the turtles singing in jamaican accents- 💀 but overall a funny special to watch for a laugh every year! "we were so easily entertained." no, no no no no, there's a reason why this is remembered as an embarrassment because kids ran away from this in terror. This was a low point, and that's why as fan's you'd all read about "Oh don't worry, peter laid said he's working on new stories from TMNT, have faith!" But I mean, even some of found it amusing some of the songs, I mean they did end up in Turtles in Time enough to be considered Cannon.
I say this because I tried to apply as an intern for the early 2000s series, and I had to brush up everything TMNT then.

My little brother ('99) and I ('96) both grew up watching reruns of the 80s show on TV in the 2000s, and every other Turtle show thereafter and it's our common passion to this day. I think I should ask him to watch this with me to celebrate Xmas, haha!
