This, ladies and gentlemen was the first thing I heard when I exited the womb on Wednesday the 28th of May of the year 1997. The greatest guitar riff ever!
One of the best things about this version's 4min 23sec jam session at the end is the way Squire hangs a big old lampshade on his Stone Roses days by throwing in the riff from "Love Spreads". Gives me a chuckle every time. As does the fact that the rest of the band finishes up and runs off to catch Chris Helme who had clearly popped off down the pub after singing the last chorus, and just leaves John in his own little world, noodling away alone in the studio oblivious at the end...
John squire I met sister on new years Eve as I was on my back in agony trying to kill the Pope in a 3 month ritual the play rosie molly came out. ...I am Philip John davenport order of the dragon. ....and way above JOHN SQUIRE IN THE PECTIN TREE. ...I am can hear the WOODPECKER EFFECT. ...I am very clever
There are many, many unanswered questions in life that keep the mind open and active....like why the fuck was this band not as huge as Oasis and why did they just go away depsite their phenomenal collective talent? This album is just fucking awesome.
Simple - the two arguing brothers from Manchester where one thinks he is a walking talking ROCK GOD is easier for the media to sell than the seahorses who were simply just a really good band
The reason the band split was because during the recording of their prospective second album there were tensions between John Squire and Chris Helme. Apparently Helme was frustrated that his song contributions were being ignored and he began turning up to rehersal sessions hung over. And Squire is said to have felt that what they were doing "sounds shit" and they were only getting the attention due to his past. He was also annoyed at Helme's plans to launch a solo career at the same time.
I have to have this in my playlists and will never have a music player without it I have too many memories to this album. I love this and suicide drive and love is the law the most from my teenage years.
“Johnny Page” - still, easily better than the last Roses output. What were they thinking. Remember seeing this band on the first gig of their first tour at Wolverhampton. Squires lead broke mid solo and he just shrugged and took a bow😄
i would say same level as sex pistols ( they both have 1 album studio) ...not so influencer right buttt an album so weelll done...like the guy ... try again
We lived in a dogfish egg case You could barely call it home Sorry little lot no roof on top But the fish left us alone Try a little more said the girl next door It's time to roam Mad Lizzy Crumbs blind cobblers thumbs Were a sight to behold She was a rum old slapper and we always tried to get her pants off when she phoned Left her cap by the sink it's not what you think Oh take me home Now we know where we're going baby We can lay back and enjoy the ride Take in the sights and drown in our senses Love is the law so take me deep inside Strap-on Sally chased us down the alley We feared for our behinds Oasis was a shop with shoes so hot They were sure to blow your mind Running so fast I can taste the past Oh take me home Now we know where we're going baby We can lay back and enjoy the ride Take in the sights and drown in our senses Love is the law so take me deep inside These waters run deep it's clear my little one Blue velvet star sky not a sound The light in your eyes, the smile on your ruby lips Tells me my lost soul is found Now we know where we're going baby We can lay back and enjoy the ride Take in the sights and drown in our senses Love is the law so take me deep inside
I'd go back a year or so and say the same thing for the Stone Roses.... (I am the Resurrection: now that IS a guitar solo!) ... just something about greatness that is so ill-fated I spose...
@Dangarus1 This and I Am The Resurrection are by far and away the greatest of all British guitar solos from the last 25 years IMHO.... Squire is the Guitarist Laureate!
@homerbear46 r u kidding me,,this is one of the best indie albums u can buy,,i still have this brand new,,unwrapped so one day in 40 or 50 years i can show my grandkids wat music really is,,,thats if cds still exist of course
This, ladies and gentlemen was the first thing I heard when I exited the womb on Wednesday the 28th of May of the year 1997.

Do It Yourself - One of those rare albums where every single track is quality
I only discovered them this week and even though this comment was 10 years ago I couldn’t agree more
Depends what or who you’re listening too
John squire I met sister on new years Eve as I was on my back in agony trying to kill the Pope in a 3 month ritual the play rosie molly came out. ...I am Philip John davenport order of the dragon. ....and way above JOHN SQUIRE IN THE PECTIN TREE. ...I am can hear the WOODPECKER EFFECT. ...I am very clever
Class song, class band very overlooked...plus John Squire is a legend, easily one of the best British guitarists in the late 25 years.
Do NOT overlook the quality bass line amongst the greatness of the Squire!! 👌🏻🎸
well.... it's hardly Mani is it?
Very led zeppelin
I don't use emogis because I am not a 12 year old Japanese school girl
@@madmesh978 no but I imagine you’ve probably wished you were you pathetic little nonse
@@patrickbracken3363 no it isn’t, thanks for your quality comment stating the obvious
John Squire is THE man!!
I seriously believe that this song's guitar solo is one of the best ever. John Squire is an underrated beast on the guitar.
+ThePizzaBoy381 not underrated... squires f,kin genious... love ouutros....this... i am the ressurrection etc
+ThePizzaBoy381 Could not agree more!

+MrRamto13 Can't say I'm familiar with him. Will definitely check him out, though.
Great vocals and lyrics plus a masterclass by the Squire

@@berlinocelot Err no.
Life had so many possibilities when i first listened to this -- I knew exactly who i was and exactly where i was going. Simple times.
then it's summer, i'm in my 20s and i'm down the the pub with my mates. it can't get any better than that. and now......................
Yes even in 2020 !
Still legendary to this day
20+ years old and still a belter...
Shame Ian couldnt sing like John H....
The man is one of those people you would walk past in the street and not know what a God he was/is...
This is one of those songs I've been chasing throughout my life …. i'm 33 today so it's been a while, but worth the wait … what a gift!!!!!!!

Squire killing it again
F o o k ! Wish this had made the cut as a Roses song. Reni's drumming wouldve kicked this up a notch or two. Amazing.
Brilliant, just brilliant. Another highlight of this album for me was "Standing on Your Head", loving the bass on that track!
JOHN SQUIRE IN ALL HIS GLORY!!!
great song, shame the radio listening public never hear the full version! the Jam at the end is awesome!
Absolutely awesome
John squire tho!!!
Banging album, very underated
How can any human being give this a thumbs downs.one of the great solos of all time 👍
John fookin Squire
You don't pronounce it 'oo'. I'm having a fooking beer, so bottoms oop.
There are many, many unanswered questions in life that keep the mind open and active....like why the fuck was this band not as huge as Oasis and why did they just go away depsite their phenomenal collective talent? This album is just fucking awesome.
Agreed
9 times out of 10, it's just marketing. Sadly.

Another track I hammered on lead, brilliant song!
I have to have this in my playlists and will never have a music player without it I have too many memories to this album. I love this and suicide drive and love is the law the most from my teenage years.
I can hear the influence of The Who in this. Great
salvadormar
The who
Fuck yes
“Johnny Page” - still, easily better than the last Roses output. What were they thinking.
Remember seeing this band on the first gig of their first tour at Wolverhampton.
Squires lead broke mid solo and he just shrugged and took a bow😄
Yeah I know what you mean he's not a patch on page.

Thanks for the lyrics
Funkn bass And love you John from America
I'd go back a year or so and say the same thing for the Stone Roses....
(I am the Resurrection: now that IS a guitar solo!)
... just something about greatness that is so ill-fated I spose...
It's like a monster took a bite out of the globe
Ese solo es brutal, que discurso, que fraseo, diría que habla, pero va más allá de eso...
This is an album that basically Is just Awesome ..strap on Sally 🤣👍 nice 1 John squire
Remember seeing these in Cardiff University 13th of June 1997
Whooohoo!! love it!
john Squire fantastic solo but mt favourite still has to be Stone Roses driving south. It just blows me away
That chorus fucking rocks my soul.
the guitar solo is epic btw!!
Sounds like a Thor Movie. Luv it!
Strap on Sally chased us down the alley!

Do it yourself, awesome album, fantastic song writing, and a well tight band. shame they split up so fast. so many people love this album.
Noel Redding approves this message from beyond the grave

Sounds like Squire breaks into "Love Spreads" at 3:42
You can really hear the Jimmy Page influence in his playing!
Fuck me, I'm not one for nostalgia, but I'm welling up here....the sound of my teens
Are u still 19
FUCK YEAH!!!! I remember this one! Nice to revisit.
Lyonslaforet
The Seahorses released a second album aswell you know.
Owen Deane They recorded it but never released it; but you can find it online on your favourite torrent site ;-)
@stereotoned Yes I read that they recorded a second album but they split before its release.

Absolute filth. The solo is a different level
TUNE!!
Underrated!!!
In 2020
I've got a couple of tracks from the album that weren't on youtube in HD on my channel: 1999 & Round The Universe. Great band.

I remember getting told off at school for singing this...screw The Man...The Seahorses are beautiful:0)x
Reverse gate on Squire's guitars, are cool.
The instrumental solo at 3:24 is amazing.
It’s at 3:21

@is0man1 Thanks brother.
This whole album is first rate, though its was slated by critics when it came out. This a top tune , and it's shame that they only made one album.
