Brilliant. Full Stop. I first heard him do this song at the Bluebird in Nashville... I was knocked out by him and I still am as I sit here in Australia 25(?) years later. He is as good as it gets.
So appropriate for these pandemic days....Darrell Scott masterful singer, guitarist, songwriter and apparently a prophet! I think one of the “pandemic positives” is that perhaps we’ve all learned to appreciate the simpler things in life. Tim O’Brien should have brought you along with him to the 2019 Canmore Folk Fest in Alberta Canada! Maybe next time. Thanks for sharing this,
I'm sure he wrote this but the version I'm used to is when Travis Tritt sang it. Although I gotta say I like this version better. Darrell Scott is a true musician and songwriter. Insanely good.....
I so love this song. Shared it on my FB page and with my community. Also love his wonderful voice full of feeling and his picking is not to be passed over!
So much going on here! Talented upright bass working with a great drummer, unusual but complimentary - - Keyboards just having fun - - Darrell's great voice - - The mix could always be better but I love it just the way it is. Sit back and enjoy many times...
He and Kenny (drummer) played, and hung out together a lot. There are some fine videos of the 2 of them together. Shattered Cross is one of my favorites czcams.com/video/oAjEiMyJmZM/video.html
A review of his various performances of this song on youtube shows that I think he never plays it exactly the same way twice, reminiscent of that other great guitar player, SRV. What a great player and great personality. A quiet, humble and immense talent.
Darrell Scott continues to impress me. First saw him on Transatlantic Sessions then I found this. Great job by him but I agree, the drummer and mixer need to be replaced :-)
Geez this is soooo much better than Travis Tritt. Travis Tritt version loses so much from these lyrics. The phrasing here is so much more authentic and passionate.
i LIKE KENNY'S DRUMMING. PERSONAL TASTE I GUESS. THE STEEL PLAYER YOU CAN'T EVEN HEAR TILL THE END AND IT'S VERY BASIC. WHEN YOU ADD OTHER ROCK-LIKE INSTRUMENTS TO AN ORIGINAL VOCAL/ACOUSTIC ARRANGEMENT IT'S A FINE BALANCE. JAMES TAYLOR IS A MASTER AT THIS. ALL IN ALL I LIKE THIS SONG AND LIVE PERFORMANCE. THANKS FOR POSTING.
It is a real shame that most people equate this song with Travis Tritt. I have nothing against him, but the obvious superior version, and talent, is Darrell Scott's, in whatever way he chooses to play it, since he seems to play it slightly differently each time.
Brilliant. Full Stop.

Saw him play in the Bluegrass Underground in the Tennessee Caverns.
Great venue literally inside a cave

This man is the most brilliant musician I've never heard of. My new favorite musician.
Check out Ian Noe too
Dude's voice is incredible, I love it
This is the original ?! Why isn’t he more popular yet !!? Great voice I love his version 👌🏼
He's really popular to people that know music...outside the popular realm.
I'm sure he wrote this but the version I'm used to is when Travis Tritt sang it. Although I gotta say I like this version better. Darrell Scott is a true musician and songwriter. Insanely good.....
Perfect comment. I love both versions. They're different songs really. This bluesy original is awesome.
Every time this song comes on I smile. What else does great music have to do?
Darrell is so talented and just flies under the radar. Have you heard that little song,"You'll Never Leave Harlan Alive"?....he wrote it.
It is not all about playing to the music. But playing with it wich is exactly what they are all are doing!
This song popped up on my Spotify suggestions. So glad! Very cool tune.
That's how I heard it too just today. Epic!
Totally LOVE this!! Drummer cracks me up! A man after my own heart!! :) Darrell is FABULOUS!!! Dreaming of seeing him in concert someday!!
ya, the drummer is wicked fun to watch. love it when musicians are so into it and show it.
I agree!....lol. have you seen the drummer in Fleetwood Mac.... Mick Fleetwood, also very entertaining and funny to watch!...lol.
Is it just me or when he plays the guitar I think wow that's what I imagine life sounding like

That drummer , what a talent!

Gotta love Kenny Malone too!
Gorgeous guitar and gorgeous voice. Love his beautiful tone and control.
God is Good-- Amazing stuff-- If you do not know Darrell Scott--here is a great way to meet him

I like this a lot.
Way, way underrated. Other songwriters love him, though.
awsome
Tellement bon que j'en ai la chair de poule....
For such a brilliant songwriter, he has no business playing guitar this well. Unfair! 😎😂
Because he made a career writing songs for others!
when i grow up i want to play like so!
Darrell Scott continues to impress me. First saw him on Transatlantic Sessions then I found this. Great job by him but I agree, the drummer and mixer need to be replaced :-)
the drummer is Kenny Malone, one of the best percussionists alive.
Kenny Malone did well with Ray Charles, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard etc etc.
He'll do, I guess
i think the drummer is awesome and he's fun to watch, too - he's so into it.
Darrell always follows Harlan with Great Day... such a nice man.
a Gem....
rest easy Kenny Malone....
a great day to be alive is when you wake up--!!
...and then you write this song....
Genial
fuck yea
so great!
i didnt know till today this was his song!! suits him to a "T"

LOVE HIM!!!!! Just wish he didn't look like Charlie Manson :)
Great cover of commercial radio hit by an amazing artist that never got to experience that directly.
I Wesenbe since Darrell wrote it, it's not a cover.
@MrA259 I love your comment your a good person
I wonder what does he thinks about Cledus T. Judd's spoof?

+1
What kind of guitar is that? Anybody know?
It's a Steven Sobell: English Luthier
Is that Dirk Johnson on keys?
Who disliked this?!
First off, this guy kicks ass..I like it..second, find a new mixing guy..geezus
