By dancing, Anne produces and radiates more body heat which confused the predator. When she kicked dirt in its face, it didn't know exactly where she was because her heat signature was larger than her body. Some animals use the same trick when face-to-face with heat-sensing snakes.
I like to imagine that, when Anne was studying frogs to work at the aquarium, she did this to make some of the wildlife calm down. And it still somehow worked on Earth creatures and her classmates and professors didn't know what to make of this Frog Whisperer.
I wonder what the other people would question more, Anne flopping around on the floor like a fish, or her slamming her face to the rhythm on a random door or something?
