  • Lake Como was reviewed as a kitesurfing destination! No Clooney, just wind, launching spots and more. Pros and cons, honestly about the conditions, wind regularity and generally - how is the kitesurfing life here! With 7 full-season of experience behind me!
    Since I am a traveling kitesurf instructor, I decided to do kitesurf spot reviews. I have a pretty good view of every single spot I have been because I spend mostly 5-6 months at each place. Sometimes even 2-3 times!
    My criteria are the following:
    wind strength and consistency
    water surface
    beginner aspect
    wake/wave/bigair aspect
    what else can be done there
    nightlife
    Comment if you have to say something!

    Great review! Thinking about visiting this coming year. What month has the best wind? From the video seems like you implied June to early July is pretty good for small kites.

      @EpicGust  Před 4 lety +1

      Thanks man I glad you like it! May June is already solid. July also. But more people. Aug is so so but can be good. Full on people. Sept good again as less people and better wind! Let me know if you come I Will be here next season as well 😎

    Hey we are looking at coming to como beginning of August. How consistent is the wind at this time? Thanks

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  Před 5 lety

      Hey Jade Z! Nice idea! Well, I don't want to be negative, but want to stay more realistic about your timing: that is a sketchy time, can be 50-50. I'll tell you why am I saying that. Around August (more like mid-August but can happen earlier) the weather and the temperature difference is getting less and less - aka it is warm everywhere. This time of a year can have a bit of a lighter wind (or even no wind) period. Still windy tho! But compared to June, let's say it is less. If you have got a foil as well you secured- 3-4 days twintip or surf kiting on 12-14 m kites for sure. the rest maybe foiling. one day no wind. that's AWG. can be better and worst as mother nature is unsearchable! Get a bike, and have a ride, tandem paraglide or just chill! SO many to do over there :) lovely place! Enjoy, and maybe give me a shot, I will be around! let's meet! :)

    Hi, we are planning to come to Como next week for kiting. What do you think about the weather? When it's sunny the wind comes up?

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  Před 5 lety

      HEy Leinad! I glad you coming! Hopefully it will be amazing weather! Exactly as you said - if the weather is sunny thermal kicks in around mid day and lasts for a good 6 hours! This time of the year it doesn't even have to be mega good and sunny weather as the temperature difference between the lake and the warming up mountains is quite big so wind is likely. And please dont even check windguru! Meteo Swiss phone application has nice and accurate wind predictions for this special area!
      If you want to make the experience extraordinary we can do a 15 km down-winder with boat escort! Really priceless experience! Contact me for details on theepicgust@gmail.com email address! Happy kiting my friend! :)

      Epic Gust Hello, very nice video!! With the Meteo Swiss application, do you mean looking at the weather station in e.g. Lugano to make a prediction for the como lake? Because I cannot find e.g. Dervio or Colico on the application since the app only covers Switzerland.

    I like the spot, its beautiful, i was there in September, but its really weak for me......i could right a 17 m (i weight 120 kg) for 2 times and this is boring . We Never had more than 16 knots. I like Winds 18-25 knots, but not less, so i can use my 12 or 10. but cool videos Buddy

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  Před 4 lety

      Well yeah i think it is just like any other spots. I have been in Egypt when it was promised 25 kn daily with no wind for a week. September last season was mega good, this was quite weak, i was there too. On the north days, you get usually 20+ kn but that's maybe 5-7 das a month. the rest is this 12-22 and never above. with your weight, I think it is tricky there for sure. but for foiling could have been something! :) But if you into TT you need something stronger. for my 75 kilogram it is pretty often solid for 12 m.

    Nice video bro! any spots on the south area like Lecco? Cheers

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  Před 5 lety +1

      HEy Nico! Thanks for that! Actually, there is one famous Valmadrera - you can catch early morning north wind sessions over there - or after storm Nort sessions! Must be solid but never tried.
      We went down a few time to Mandello launched kites from the dried river bank. Well, it was a bit sketchy. No exit points in case of trouble and also gusty winds. THose spots all work only in the north wind.

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  Před 5 lety

      We are there from May till the end of September! But probably you can kite in April and in October too! Must have big balls for that :D Winter is off as thermal doesn't work that period! Also not a kiting weather - it is COLD :D

      @zolty-epicgustkiteboarding7547 Před 2 lety +1

      May and June is super great, 5 ot 7 days for sure windy, at least around 15kn or more. July still good but Aug is pretty full on. doesnt mean there is no wind, rather it is more crowded. Sept is mixed, some years great some less.

    Dp you pump your kite on the boat out in the middle of the lake?

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  Před 5 lety +1

      Yes. Some people use pumps, some compressors. And you can make drift launch as well as you can put the rider out and than pump and bring the kite to the edge of the window. 😎🤙

    What is the closest city-state to the lake?

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  Před 4 měsíci

      Not sure what you mean by that but the province is Lecco at the south and Como at the nort / and west. Sondrio also close. Bigger cities to launch kites from - Colico, Dervio, Dongo, Cremai. They all wind dependent so not all of them working every day. Hit me up if you need info about the upcoming day!

    • @EpicGust
      @EpicGust  Před 5 lety

      Ah, I feel with you bro. You know this could happen to you in the windiest place on earth too. Mother nature is unpredictable. 2018 May was not great for sure! Weekends were rainy, and week starts were windy - was not good for the weekenders! But from the end of May, the turbine has started and didn't stop till the end of July- early August maybe! Next time!

      @@EpicGust We'll try to come again, Lake Como is still amazing just for tourism. It's the good thing about this spot compared to some other spots where there is just nothing to do if no wind.
