I saw a bit of his acting in that movie - the uproar is well- deserved . I wonder if his acting improved because of his emotional ordeal with Amber? Made him stronger somehow?
As I see it, his genius was not impacted by her very much at all. He stayed active in films all along so there was no hiatus in work, and therefor no comeback. His command of character has remained steady right through.

Yes, but he was pretty upset by the whole thing and drinking at work , etc. Probably nothing to do with her. Maybe just bored. They had to read his lines to him through a Mike.
Generally speaking, you're right - there was no major crash . I think he was confused though because narcissists can really mess with people. But he woke up and when she went too far, he took her to court. But you see...she was already prepared for that with two insurance companies ready to pay for legal fees. Narcissists are extremely conniving and they rarely let go . I hope though, that she will leave him alone forever.
