Playing with Power except everybody has to use Yargle
xgxwills it would just be Kr’rik but with yargle as the commander...
@@dzyer8359 that's how some decks end up as when the commander becomes restricted, the actual commander ends up being in the 99 and just has to be tutored up or something.
The universe would implode from all that Yargle.
so...playing with TRUE power
I knew Ryan had this as soon as he put down Remora next to Study.
I've lost games with remora and rhystic but I've never lost a game with
s m o t h e r i n g t i t h e
I thought paying one for spells was bad, but paying 2 each time I draw gets borderline back-breaking
@@impendio what about all 3?
You can really feel the tension in the air in these high power games hahah. Even though I am a casual EDH player, it's always nice to see the absurdity possible in our format
You have no idea how much it means when you say "our format" 😊

ABOUT RIGHT, COMPETITIVE COMRADE
Vampiric Tutor: the Game
That dispel thrasios topdeck was lit
It definitely felt that everyone was focusing on fish hulk, though that could have just been the turn order with Mike going before Ryan, or passing to Mike instead of countering Ryan's, trying to keep him off mana/answers. Though of the game winning threats, each time it was Thassa's oracle, just in the non hulk decks.
Great to see you guys growing so fast! Spread the love for cedh
Can't wait to finish work to watch some sweet cedh gameplay.
Thanks for the great content.😊
I adore Garrett's slim token creatures. I'm definitely making some myself.
I must have them
Any idea how they’re made?
_Fish Hulk did not win the game but the FISH definitely won the game._
Conclusion:Thassa's oracle is really hot I don't know if the committee will banned it because of its power.
My Mimeoplasm-self mill has emereged again because of Mirror Mad Phantasm-Thassa's Oracle with Oracle-Consulation and Im gonna play it this comming weeked to local game of cEDH with my friends.
Ok, that sounds like fun!
Sounds good, do you have a decklist?
It effectively cuts down on the number of pieces required for the Labman combo, whilst also being cheaper, so not terribly surprising that it'd be broken.
Not sure whether it'll be banned, but it's a candidate. Then again it's not like Labman didn't already make a lot of U wincons quite homogenous.
They're gonna get their anuses rekt
rules committee consists of casual players who do absolutely nothing until turn 5-6. Cedh should have a seperate banlist because the casual banlist is retarded
It was awesome to see you on the labmaniacs twitch, and eventually podcast!
First time viewer here and it was more entertaining than expected! I'm a casual edh jank lover lol. Thank you professor for the recommendation and link.
Oh look, Thassa's Oracle won another game of cEDH...I think every single game of cEDH that I have watched or witnessed since that card came out has been won by someone playing Oracle.
It is what it is
Meanwhile I am sitting over here with my Teshar deck missing the days where I could simply Swords a Lab Man.
Until ppl adapt to that strategy...
Thassa's Oracle with consult/tainted pact has consumed my meta more than flash that card is nuts. Fish hulk still matters though
Agreed. Oracle is becoming a real problem.
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG I was having the "does flash need the ban" convo with my group the other day and i voiced that oracle feels like it's going to be a problem child in basically every blue deck from here on out. Seems like a better ban to me, if they do insist on banning something.
@Najawin Banning flash seems like an overreaction to oracle. Flash hulk was the best deck before oracle sure, but there is always going to be a best deck and oracle is just a buff to all the decks that win with lab-man effects, which means it's a buff to flashhulk. I feel like the meta was pretty healthy in general until oracle was printed and it feels like banning oracle returns us to the older meta.
There is another argument though. There is the possibility that Oracle has created a powerspike for enough decks that competing with flashhulk will be possible through sheer power? if there are only a few decks that win by resolving 1 card it's op, but if every deck can do it it's kinda balanced in a weird way. I dont subscribe to that line of thinking, but that could be a good argument for letting things lie for a while. Let time show what decks get buff how hard by oracle and make sure adjustments really need to be made.
@Najawin Using the stats you just mentioned, that means 25% of those players basically are saying Oracle is the problem since they didn't think flash was a problem prior to that card...
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG I feel like it's more that cards which single-handedly let you deck yourself out are a problem. There are plenty of "you deck, you win" cards already out there, and maybe that effect and/or Oracle IS too strong for EDH, but throwing your entire library into the grave instantly without even needing a combo? That's the part that seems crazy to me.
The playmat and opening hand was an awesome touch. 👌
Vinícius Zaous Game Knights 🤣
This was very well produced! Well done.
Absolute power this pod, holy

Well they aren't called playing with power for nothing :)
Q: How do you beat fish hulk?
A: Play as many colors as humanly possible
When i saw this video pop up in my feed i could smell something fishy going on. Lol this was a great game, keep up the good work
Awesome video! Thanks
To be fair, fish hulk's win con is Thassa's oracle and whilst everyone was focusing down what it was doing, 2 OTHER players attempted a Thassa's oracle win with one of them actually resolving, the game became who can with through that specific card first so I wouldn't say that it was for lack of fish hulk being able to stand up to the other decks, rather it just got extra focused with every other deck being capable of countering it's plays and holding it on the back foot
Two Mana blue cards 😝 great game! Love the mind games, resource management, stax, interactions, the whole shabang!
Oracle is absolutely ridiculous. I made a fish hulk decklist a little while after the set was spoiled and oh man that deck. Thassa's Oracle isn't just changing cEDH meta either. I'm starting to see it more and more in casual games as well.
ayyy nice vid guys!
Never watched to the last frame... LOVE THE STATS
Yes! Fish Hulk! I am tempted to build something similar.
Don't know if anyone else has mentioned this yet, but it would be nice to have a hand count for each of the players throughout the game next to their life totals, just makes it nice to be able to follow the level of people's resources in their hand.
It's a hard thing to track logistically (on top of everything else we are tracking). We are looking into it for next season.
Awesome game! Super tight!
I think this was my favorite episode so far...
I think this is the fastest that any single card has been so prevelent that I'm already sick of seeing it. God I hate Thassa's Oracle
Yeah it homogenized the format way too much
It's not like Lab man and new jace weren't already doing the same thing for years. Oracle just makes it just that little bit easier. Flash and consultation are the issue. If you dont have oracle breakfast hulk will still be a thing with lab man. Making spot removal viable, costing 1 less and needing to draw a card to win with lab man never stoped it from still being the fastest and overall best deck.
Chaotic A-Game, yeah, and that’s how the format has been for a long time. T&T decks are insanely powerful, but it’s not the worst thing. Like thassa’s oracle is only 5$
Very nice episode. I don't play cEDH but I love seeing it get played and the narration is top notch on your video's.
On an unrelated topic. What is your guy's opinion on Estrid as a cEDH commander. I have a fairly high powered deck with her (would be higher if not for budget) and love the insane value she creates with the land enchantments.
Keep up this great series and channel. It's awesome!
I know animatou has a CEDH deck that's floating around right now. Estrid is good with untapping, but I think she's better in the 99.
the force is strong with this one
I’d love to see one of your guys takes on a rankle deck. I made a discard rankle deck and i think he’s such an interesting commander
I’m a simple man. I see Najeela, I click like.
My girlfriend plays Najeela and I end up playing it for cEDH. I was just thinking about making my own cEDH deck when ai recently heard about Opus Thief since I like Stax but Bloodpod doesn't have Blur. Im happy to see it win.
I've been tearing apart Jeleva to build Opus Thief and this just makes me happy.
Anywhere I could find a close up of the Najeela art?
Yay more playing with power mtg
I dont know if I've just missed it but have you guys always done the game results page at the end showing the number of times things were done? I really like it
Thanks! There were some episodes with multiple games in them where we didn't do it. For the most part we do have the stats at the end though.
Seeing all of those Thassa's Oracles makes me feel like stifle or trickbind are pretty killer cards in the current meta ;)
That synchronized opening was sexy
Watching this gives me a dirty pleasure like watching magazines or royal family news.
Anyone knows where you van get those najeela tokens or a guide with how to make them? Would love to have some myself
They come from a website called Luxury Playstyle. They make premium gaming accessories.
I'm curious if Oracle will do for Protean Hulk what SOI and kaladesh dredge cards did for Grave-Troll. But yeah the fish is stupid. Heck if I can win with it during pre-release that just goes to show how OP it is.
I would love to see an Animar deck
We have animar in our first season. We also played with an Animar player at SCGCon this last year. We might end up putting some of those games on the channel as well, so stay tuned!

I've always been curious about Garrett's lil tokens, are they custom? How can I get some of those?
What are those Warrior tokens?
About 9:24
I guess it was a mistake when editing the video, but it looked like Ryan drew a card with remora off of Najeela being cast.
Nonetheless, very nice game!
Love you
Are the partners included for a purpose other than getting the right combo of colors, or do they have another purpose?
They are strong on their own, can serve as card advantage and can be used to dump mana into ( tymna and tharasios ). The other partners are ok but not as strong.
I wanna see more muldrotha, my fav commander =)
Also what do you guys think of Feather the redeemed? I've played him a few times with my friends, although not cedh, and he seems like he could be nice. But maybe thats because I play with a lot less powerfull decks ^^
Awesome video! Is it possible to showcase non-meta cEDH commanders?
That is coming up later this season!
I love that token, how can I get that?
With thassa's Oracle and protean hulk running around so much is there room for stifle now?
Not really. Stifle is a dead card in so many situations. You'll find yourself just sitting on it the whole time "in case thassa hits". You don't want dead cards in CEDH. Angel's Grace is a much better and more versatile card to counteract this situation.
How common are proxies in your guy’s playgroup? Are you guys all long time collectors and players?
There's shockingly much tapping out in the first half of the game considering the Fish Hulk deck in the pod
Has any thought been given to putting a cards-in-hand counter onscreen?
Yep, definitely. There's some real logistics that go into doing that and adds a lot of overhead to the video production. We are looking into it for next season.
Where can i get the Najeela that was used in the video?
Custom one made by Scourge Alters. You can find him on Facebook.
DO MORE, also some more casual games would be nice and players commenting plays casually

Did anyone have an interaction that could have stopped the wheel if they didn't pass priority to Mike? Because like... Ryan basically won the game with that wheel, I was really amazed by seeing it actually resolve.
We were all surprised to see it resolve. Either there was a bluff game going on, or they were trying to manipulate the flash/hulk player into using removal. It's a risky gamble because if he didn't have anything, they can't go back in priority and try again. He could've cracked a fetch to get another round of priority, but he instead decided to let it resolve. Sometimes the high powered games do have this type of strategy involved.
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG Yes you can. The last guy can just tap a mana and reset priority back to the active player.
@@thetimebinder that only works with lands like city of brass which has a trigger attached to the tapping of the land. A normal mana ability without any additional trigger doesnt use the stack. So in that moment the only way of getting priority back to the other players was to crack the fetch or cast something
@@MrStarkeks it doesnt use the stack but there is a rulling that gives a second round of priority if a player taps a land for mana. It was talked about being a possible issue by the laboratory maniacs.
@@anonzillaking After looking into it a bit more, i stand corrected. It appearently counts as taking an action and gives another round of priority. But still questionable if it would have made a difference, as the other players could just pass prio again if they think he's bluffing.
yep, this video alone proves it, the fish must go, for the fish is broken (i mean the new fish).
Did every deck here tried to win with thassas oracle? it seems like a really big problem for the meta, not just fish hulk but every deck has its package and its the first go-to wincon.
There was only 1 deck tonight (curious control) that didn't run it. It's becoming a real problem.
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG yeah, and thats sad cuz the card itself is awesome and surely interesting on other builds... but for cedh shenanigans its definetly broken and not fun at all, less fun to see it everywhere. And thats why i'd like a separate banlist of sorts, one for casual edh and other for cedh but that would be a mess.
@@nyft3352 Folks would just bring their Thassa's Consultation combo to "casual" tables. I find that cEDH is more about the price point of the surrounding infrastructure than the wincon the deck relies on. Case in point--I lost to a cephalid breakfast combo on turn two in a "casual" game just this last week. The deck running it was jank, worth all of fifty bucks.
@@ms.aelanwyr.ilaicos true, i get your point, thats why a separate banlist would be a mess and would require an "image" of whether an edh deck is casual or competitive, not just the price tag but rather the overall powerlevel of the deck (which is quite subjective). Luckily, anyone who bring a thassas consultation combo or a fish hulk deck to a casual table could be called out by the other players, most likely no one in a casual table would accept the spike cEDH ahole doing that, it happens but it is up to the players to stop it from happening again, basically the "EDH social contract" which doesnt quite apply in cedh but it could be useful so these things dont happen... its weird.
10:00 Wait where can you get those sick loyalty counters?
They are from a site called luxury playstyle. They create premium accessories.
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG Thank you so much!
Does nobody run mindbreak trap??
There needs to be a sideways thumb lol. 3 of 4 decks played Thassa's Oracle and it seems to be in any deck where blue and black are present for the same combo play we saw happen twice. The saturation this has already had is a little ridiculous but still enjoyed the competitive level.
We are working on this! Unfortunately, this will be a big part of the cedh meta for the foreseeable future. This wont stop us from bringing plenty of powerful non-fish decks to the table though.
At 12:41 when Folger tapped his ancient tomb for mana, he would have been reduced to -1 life. Two turns earlier, during turn 6, he activated necropotence for 3 but never lost the life. At that point he would be at 2 life but it did not get altered. Two turns later, during turn 8, he cracks windswept heath for 1 life putting him at 1 and that taps ancient tomb killing himself. The result did not change but silence would have resolved instead of being countered.
Snap! You're right! Sorry about that. The good news is that it didn't affect the overall outcome of the game! We will try to be better in the future!
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG You guys are doing a wonderful job! From the videos to the presentation to threat assessment and to the fight on the stack! Keep it up!
Woah! What are those warrior tokens?
They're from a site called Luxury playstyle. They have premium tokens, coins, and dice.
I wonder how predominant Thassa's Consultation will need to be before people start running Stifle, Trickbind, etc. to inject some risk into the combo.
They aren't great all the time, but they do have interaction with many of the format's infinite combos (this is particularly true of Trickbind), and they double as mana denial on your opponent's fetches. Maybe it would take a deck with lots of juicy Stifle targets in your own deck to be worth it, but it seems like undervalued tech to me.
We will definitely see a resurgence of Angel's Grace in the meta. Stifle, et al is just a dead card in hand. It's too narrow. You can counter activated or triggered abilities of anything, but you won't. You'll sit on that card in your hand forever just in case thassa's hits the board. That's a dead card. Angel's Grace has uses outside of stopping the combo.
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG You would know better than me, I think, and that reasoning makes a lot of sense. Combo pieces that double as disruption are definitely more attractive than pure disruption that amounts to a Force Spike against most loops.
Thanks for engaging with the fans, it's awesome to get your take!
SOME GOOD ASS MAGIC
I would be more happy if there was an 'intervening if clause' in the Thassa's Oracle trigger.
I wish it said 'when Thassa's Oracle enters the battlefield and if it's still on the battlefield, [text that wins the game]'.
i would already be happy if the removed the "or equal" part.
I feel like there should be a minimum devotion to be met for the "win" part to trigger but meh
I don't see the TCG Player link in the description.

Where did Garrett get those tokens?
From a site called Luxury Playstyle. They make premium gaming accessories.
okay so I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure a player accidentally misrepresented their life total and should have died.
9:26 - T6, Folger taps Ancient Tomb for mana. The overlay shows him go from 8 to 5, but Ancient Tomb only deals 2 damage, not 3 (should be at 6 life). Lands tapped appear to be Tomb, Pool, and Island, so no damage from a Mana Confluence or anything. He then exiles 3 cards to Necropotence. This should cost him 3 life, but the overlay doesn't update. He should now be at 3 life.
12:32 - T8, middle of the counterwar, Folger cracks a fetch, putting him to 2. He then taps Ancient Tomb and dies.
Did anyone else notice this or happen to catch something I didn't?
Can someone explain how the win worked
You cast Thassa's Oracle. It's "Enter the Battlefield" ability goes onto the stack. Ryan responded by casting Tainted pact. He had no two cards with the same name in his deck (including basic lands) so he continued to exile cards until his whole library was exiled. Then his oracle trigger resolved, and it looked to see how many cards were in his library (which was zero) and he won the game.
Ok but what was that alt Najeela I need to know
It's a foil alter from Scourge Alters.
Just to confirm, the player who won wasn't running more than 1 of each basic land correct?
Correct
I thought you could send your commander to command zone if you lost control of commander, like when gilded Drake takes control.
Only when it changes zones, not control. So battlefield to grave yard or exile, or library.
Also, couldn't the Najeela deck have played the hulk package as well?
There are Najeela builds that use hulk. We have one coming up in a future episode.
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG looking forward to seeing that in action!
Do you feel that the version with Hulk is superior to the Hulk-less version, now that the Hulk package consists of a smaller package with cards that are actually good on their own as well?
@@naomisalama430 I think Najeela is best when she's in her Tempo package. I feel the flash hulk package feels "forced" in there. There are better commanders for Flash hulk, and Najeela doesn't gain much by the package. Thassa and Consult aren't dead in Najeela and they only fill 2 slots, so it's easy to cram into any deck. Flash hulk takes more to implement and distracts away from Najeela's main gameplan.
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG I think adding just Flash, Hulk and Spellseeker in could be worth it, keeping the package slim while enabling the instant speed 0 boardstate win. I'm not a fan of adding the breakfast package or anything.
I need to know where Garret got those warrior tokens
