I got a theory.. (and it's kinda crazy)
It's like a double life. Him as a normal person. And him as a super star.
People ignore his real self and only focuses on his stage self..
Him saying " I wanna be a rap star, I wanna be rich , I wanna be top, I wanna be king, and I want it all mine" means he wanted the fame. He wanted attention, he wanna be noticed..
But in every fame and popularity, comes with a great hate from people.
He realized that being famous doesn't mean everything. Being you is BETTER.
People keeps their eyes on them. People watch their everymove. It became suffocating.
The shadows can be seen as the sasaengs that always follows BTS around.
And the part where suag said , don't let me shine, don't let me down, don't let me down , now I'm afraid means only one thing.
We are preventing them. We are blocking their way. We are stopping them from doing things.
Nowadays army's are being demanding.. jk recently apologized and ask fans if can he really smile. (It's sad).
That's my theory. Feel free to change it or add things to it because it felt incomplete

@@anthonytoo I loved the song a lot. It kinda reminded me of NF's Intro III when when NF speaks through the perspective of his fear
Overall the song is interesting in the sense that Yoongi talks about how he wants to be famous and rich etc but also talks about having a shadow of fear which follows him. He mentions the fear of the fall a lot too. It's like saying he's wants greatness but's he holding himself back in a sense.
The fact that he still has a shadow to me means that he's still on the ground (because if you were in the air you probably wouldn't see your shadows): he's not flying yet because he's scared that if he flies he'll fall
I also felt that the song itself was very caged. Like he didn't necessarily go off or anything. His flow was relatively fast but it didn't come across as agressive as it usually does which again to me seems like his fear is making him hold back a bit.
I'm waffling😂 but overall it's cool how differently it can be interpreted

From press release: "Interlude: Shadow" is an epic yet sentimental Emo Hip Hop track that draws samplings from the instruments of "INTRO: O!RUL8,2? from the 2013 release"

The symbolism in this video too, the two Yoongi's, one on the stage which must be Suga, aka his Persona, and the Yoongi in the crowd is his Shadow, the dark inner thoughts and feelings of the map of his soul and his Shadow is telling his Persona that you can't get rid of me, you and me are the same people, just accept that there is darkness within you too...once he can do that he can merge his Persona and Shadow to become his 'true' self...

, and shadows is a referance from ( map of soul book ) ... etc , so he opening the new era with a music video full of social criticism, covering topics such as invasion of privacy and extremely deep lyrics.

In my interpretation, this is where Suga and Yoongi have communication. When the music becomes minor, it's Yoongi, his self/shadow whose talk to 'Suga' that they are the one and the same person. Suga did the same with First Love, when he narrates 'the him' and 'the piano' at the same song.

This is long but you should read it:
    - at the end of shadow mv is so powerful and symbolic: the faceless people in the crowd the cameras constantly going off, the crowding, the constant scrutiny. Yoongi Made an emotional song, about the dark side of fame and what he and BTS go through everyday. And also at the place where there are 2 Suga’s one one the stage and one on the crowd people in the crowd were busy with their phones filming and focusing only on the famous rapper and rockstar Suga that they didn’t even notice nor acknowledged the normal boy Min Yoongi was standing in the crowd among them. Shadow should be a reminder to check yourself as a fan and always remember that you’re just a fan. We love BTS and BTS loves us but we should never cross boundaries and invade their personal space. Basically shadow is the fears of getting high yet no one told him it’d be lonely up there. As the shadow kept on following, a dream is set to reach higher. He wants to be everything, now he is full of fears. He came back to his senses didn’t expect it’d be this way.
    So basically shadow is about:
    1. Medias who try to sabotage their career
    2. Sasaengs
    3. Army’s who think they own the boys
    4. Antis
    What shadow is NOT about:
    1. Army’s who know their limits and don’t think that buying the album also comes with buying the boys lives
Also Suga’s shadow was the fastest video in all youtube history to reach 1M likes in 30 Minutes and 500K views in 8 Minutes the power of army keep streaming everyone 🖤🖤
    hope this helps ❤️

The people standing at the door represents sasaengs constantly trying to get into their hotel rooms, the people holding the phones with the flash represents the cameras constantly in their faces at airports and etc., when yoongi is watching himself in the crowd you can interpret that has his 'shadow' and another thing with the cameras can be taken as they were too busy filming and focusing on rapper suga they didn't acknowledge or notice the normal min yoongi was in the crowd with them. (you can take this how you want it's what I think it is)

Always love your reactions and how you analyse things. I actually feel like when the beat changes, and his rap style goes raw, it's now his shadow singing and saying "I'm a part of you" and that's why its down in the crowd, in the shadows and not on the stage. And when he sings in the mirror bit in the second half of the song the mirrors are cracked, I feel like that's another indication that his shadow is singing now.

I feel like the Yoongi in the crowd is his shadow. Since they are using the book Jung's Map of the Soul: An Introduction. In that book there is the Persona, The Shadow and the Ego.
The persona appears as a consciously created personality or identity. Jung applied the term persona, explicitly because, in Latin, it means both personality and the masks worn by Roman actors of the classical period, expressive of the individual roles played.
The Shadow is the the repressed, therefore unknown, aspects of the personality including those often considered to be negative.
The Ego (in his book) being : One's self-concept (also called self-construction, self-identity, self-perspective or self-structure) is a collection of beliefs about oneself. Generally, self-concept embodies the answer to "Who am I?
In the Intro: Persona MV the words "Who am I?" are on the blackboard.
In this people dressed in black with their faces covered go after Yoongi, he talks about the things he wants, the things he needs he talks about his fears and how easy it is to fall. Then it switches and there is a Yoongi in the crowd and I believe that Yoongi is the Shadow. Because the lyrics say We instead of You or I, it's we. So it's the part of him that is perhaps the negative part of himself. He is becoming aware of it, becoming aware that the negative side of him could cause him to fall, that there are negative sides to being a star and having fame and being up so high. It's lonely, it is easy to fall.
I think Ego will be coming to terms with each part of one's self and answering the question of "Who am I?"
Also sorry for the long spammy comment.

i like your intake in this song...I watched other reactions...and read some comments...some were thinking about theories and stuff...but I think that this song is just expressing how yoongi and possibly all other members felt..as they are literally on the top of the world right now...at first they were just realizing their dreams wondering how far they will go how far they will last...unexpectedly they found themselves at the top..but as they jump higher the harder they fall, the higher they fly then it gets more terrifying, as their light shines brighter their shadows also becomes bigger.. it scares them as it continuously eats them up...there are lyrics saying he didn't know that its lonely up there...doubt and negativity starts fall...and that he would consider just to turn back...they constantly think how people always long for that blinding light but what awaits them is just a vast shadow...because of this they started to get scared of going higher more than this...they started to hate it...having an internal conflict with himself..whether to continue flying and shining or not...they feel that the moment they think lowly of themselves is the time when they shine the brightest and flew the highest..in the end he is still deciding and clashing with his inner self continuously fighting and suppressing his inner shadows so that he can strive higher and shine brighter without any worries...so yea thats my take.....

Actually I think the one saying you can't break me of IS his shadow. His shadow starts rapping the moment the Beat drops, first mockingly repeating what Yoongi said before telling him he can't ever get rid of him because they are the same person so he might as well accept that. The whole song is incredibly deep and has a lot of room for different interpretations which I really love. A part that especially breaks my heart is when he says 'Don't let me shine' because on top of the obvious meaning his Name - Yoongi - means shine so it can be interpreted as him saying that he can't be himself which also goes well with the 'I wanna be ME'

  • @deanncoates8456
    @deanncoates8456 Před 4 lety

Spot On interpretation. I also noticed the darker, harsher, (you said his clone) is his shadow taking over & it's a constant battle between himself & shadow while his lyrics are him accepting his shadow self and the two parts of himself becoming the one whole self.
