  • The aftermarket starter in my 1990 Volkswagen Golf Country was still working, but I refurbished it as part of my larger restoration project. This is a German-made Herth+Buss model 2309700 replacement starter.

Just a really useful tip - there are drill bits that are the opposite direction than normal - they are awesome for unscrewing stubborn stripped heads, because as you you're drilling in the same direction as the unscrew action, the drill bit eventually makes the bolt unscrew itself :)

Thanks. I've been working on other projects lately, but I want to get back to that Golf Country. I also have lots of old footage waiting to be edited into videos, so stay tuned...

    Hi!
Very nice video! Where do you buy the new spare parts?

Hi, thanks. The only spare parts that I bought were the three screws, which I ordered from ECS Tuning: www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-volkswagen-audi-parts/bolt-m5x33-priced-each/035911299b/

Hello sir can you tell me what is difference betwean gasoline and disel wv starter motor?
You see I dont realy have any money so I have old opel ascona c 1.3 l engine gasoline.
So I like to much advance me ignition timing for economy .
I found out the magnet starter motor for golf 2 fits nearly identicaly to me bosch magnet starter parts .
Only problem It seams the starter motor turns different direction and the grwes for the bendixs are placed in oposite dorections.
I managed to tap extra leads to ground brushes and reverse the starter motor direction.
Only problem is the bendix so thats why I ask do gasoline bendix differ from disel wv starter motors???

Hi, Elvin. Sorry, I don't know the answer to your question, but I Googled "difference between gasoline and diesel VW starter" and there were several discussions on various forums. I bet you can find your answer that way. Good luck!
