This build/fly challenge is a sponsored AMA mentorship for Guillows Flying Models by Doyle Blevins. It challenges the free flight hobbyist to achieve a 20 second flight using a specific Guillows kit that has been built using the kit wood only. Great fun!

I remember building Guillows kits, but I think the balsa was heaven and the notches were cut for stringers and wing stringers. And then putting the covering on wet and a coat of dope afterwards to tighten the cover. The good old days!

Cool! I built a ton of Guillows kits as a kid ('70s) and occasionally pick one up these days. I recently did the Focke-Wulf FW190, which is a great kit! Their laser-cutting has made ALL the difference. I won't buy one that isn't marked as laser-cut. I used to hate the munched stringer slots in their slightly cheap balsa. Comet made a better kit, IMO, but I loved the variety of Guillows and I knew their limitations and how to work around them. Cheers!

As you build the kit, can you show how you affix the acetate windows/windshield? I always make a mess of this step and would like to see how you do it, if you are planning doing a video of your build. Thanks!
Imagine my surprise when I got my first close-up of a full-size airplane and discovered it didn't have a big gooey globby fingerprint on the windscreen. Most of my models certainly did. 😀
