The area of the throat containing the vocal cords and used for breathing, swallowing, and talking. Also called voice box.
What is laryngeal cancer?
According to National Cancer Institute (NCI) definition laryngeal cancer is a cancer that forms in tissues of the larynx. Most laryngeal cancers are squamous cell carcinomas (cancer that begins in flat cells lining the larynx).
How common is laryngeal cancer?
According to GLOBOCON 2020 data, there were about 1.85 lakh new cases of laryngeal cancer diagnosed in 2020 in India with 1lakh death.
What are the risk factors for developing laryngeal cancer?
1. Smoking
2. Tobacco
3. Alcohol consumption
4. Human papilloma virus infection can be associated with development of laryngeal cancer
What are the symptoms of laryngeal cancer?
1. Hoarseness of voice
2. Throat pain
3. Difficulty in swallowing food
4. Pain while swallowing food
5. Difficulty in breathing
6. Abnormal sounds with breathing
7. Painless swelling in neck

Thanks for your query. Need of Radiotherapy after MLS depends on many factors including local extent of the disease and extent of surgery. In most cases radiotherapy would be required.

Male 30 yrs old, URGENT!!!
I cant swallow without extreme pain, cant really talk anymore i barely eat now. has gotten progressively worse over 2-3 weeks, former smoker and i use chew tobacco.
I cant afford Health care, is there any things i need to keep an eye out for symptom wise? I dont recall any injurys to the throat but i do have a growth near my thyroid. And a history of them
If it is cancer is there anything i can do to relieve the pain so i dont suffer that bad? Something like a home made remedy?

So sorry @krider701,,,, I lost my voice 2 month's ago and had a sore throat, felt like razors when I swallowed,, saw an ENT Dr and did biopsy and found squamous cell carcinoma of vocal cords, larynx, had a sonogram of my neck and also found my thyroid has 2 nodules on both sides of thyroid and a lymph node that's inflamed.... seeing Dr again today and more scans this week then probably refer me to oncologist.... dreading this alot..
But yes if you can find a Dr that'll take a cash payment at time of appointment since you don't have ins. Please get it checked out
Hloo I'm 19years old,,, i can see my epiglottis when i open mouth (suddenly) . is it problematic??,,, i actually have vocal nodule and ent consultant told me to take voice rest ( i aso had thyroid issue when i was 15,,,cured now) ,,, i am having severe throat pain whenever i talk longer time a day ,,, but now i have discomfort in the throat(pain) and also dysphagia ,,, is it because of suddden appearance of epiglottis??

Sir ….have been suffering from sore throat from approx 3 months …when i check my back of throat its always inflamed and red same with tonsils ….consulted 3 ent doctors and one who was ent and fellowship in head and neck cancer surgery. He did an endoscopy and found edema in true vocal chords impression laryngitis ….Doctor I am having multiple problems going and coming back after some time ….what should i do please help …. Yes, he is likely to get cured. For patients more than 70 yrs, we try to avoid chemotherapy concurrently, unless the patient is very fit.
