  • Let's take a close look at a homemade ultralight trike. In this video, I'll do a walkaround of a DIY ultralight aircraft that doesn't require any kind of license to operate. Flight instruction would be needed, and there are safety regulations that must be followed. But this is the simplest and cheapest aircraft to own and maintain that I have ever seen.

    Thanks for posting. Am researching converting a Blackhawk Talon 190 to a Weight Shift wing.

      You're welcome. I plan to show more videos about these kinds of aircraft. The Blackhawk Talon 190 conversion sounds like fun.

    I have one almost exactly like this. Mine had been factory built but so somebody modified it and then I modified it more.

    How do you drink your beer while you fly if you are steering ?

    • @BudgetPhil
      @BudgetPhil  Před měsícem +1

      Could probably put some non-alcoholic beer in a camel back pack or something like that.

      Thank you. He prefers that setup so he can point the wing into the wind during crosswind landings. Instead of crabbing the trike, he can just crab the wing.

    Looks interesting,. The control bar seems a little high, have you flown this yet?

    • @BudgetPhil
      @BudgetPhil  Před 7 měsíci +2

      I haven't flown it yet but the builder of the craft has. When designing and building it, he had a different wing that he was using and the control bar was a bit lower with that other wing. Said he didn't mind it that high but probably wouldn't want it any higher.

      He has had it for many years, and I think he said it came off another ultralight aircraft of some kind.

      Thank you. It's located in the American mid-west. I know the builder of the trike and can relay questions to him if you like.

      @@BudgetPhil sounds good, I'm also in Midwest, IL to be exact. I'm a year or two out from working on it as I'm currently working on a PPG. But I'm trying to wrap my head around the attachment assembly of hang glider to trike. I have the older style hang plate, was wondering what is used to keep it from sliding fore n aft? Thanks...

      @@BudgetPhil Could I possibly pm you my email address so you could pass it on to this brilliant man? I would pay for some tips n pointers. Not many folks around here to learn flex wing things from. Thanks again...

      @BudgetPhil  Před 4 měsíci

      I believe he uses a hang block that clamps tightly to the keel. A spherical bearing mounted to the vertical post of the trike bolts to the hang block. Then he also uses a separate strap as a backup, for redundancy.
