This is basically Nintendo’s equivalent of Pixar’s A113.
FruitcakeDog It’s really not
I guess but only if totaka works on it.
Pretty much.

It would be the other way around as the music came first
Interesting fact about the Mario Kart 8 one: Totaka wasn't actually involved with composing for MK8, his only credit was voicing Yoshi. Yet he still found a way to include his theme.
It's a light blue dinosaur
The dino: *singing*
Edit: LOL I KNOW IT'S A YOSHI FSKAGSODHW IDK WHY I POSTED THIS BACK THEN
How was this discovered? I feel like it should be impossible to hear
Nitro Wildfire Well I think people saw that Totaka was involved, even if not composing, and tried to find anything that sounds like the song, what I’m saying it was probably trial and error that helped find it
@@JamesTheFoxeArt Oh okay
Maybe Nintendo got there musicians to do it with Totaka’s permission.
I wonder if he still enjoys hiding these in every game, or if he just feels obligated at this point.
Im sure he likes it...its his calling card. And he has infinite ways of hiding it:)

I like how after KK whistles the song he just kinda sing stutters.
qweh qweh. qweh. qwe. qweh
and then he's like "okay this isn't working" and starts whistling again
wEH. wEh. wE. WehH.
It’s kinda unsettling
it borked his breen
I love how in the early versions, it sounds like Totaka has his finger over the keyboard for the last note when director Kiyotake bursts in and says “Don’t you dare press that last key!”
Then Totaka presses that last key

6:22 The thing about Yoshi himself is that he’s voiced by Kazumi Totaka, it’s interesting that his own character would get to hum his own song.

Imagine being a Nintendo fan in the 90s and finding this song in one of your games, and then that same day you find it on another, you wonder what this mysterious melody is. you here it once more in other games and one day, you find out it's the trademark of the man who made the music of your childhood.
6:20 That's the cutest version of Totaka's Song I've heard.
Harry Best 3:27
I remember accidentally encountering the totaka theme in mario kart 64 during the victory for the round screen before going to the next race, I left it on for about an hour because my sister and I wanted a break but were planning to play it again later, then the totaka theme came up randomly and we both kinda freaked out.
apparently it happens when the victory song loops 64 times.
64 likes, what a coincidence
It's crazy how we still are missing some games that totaka's composed. He did wave race 64 and we still don't know where the song is. I think he also did the Wii menu music.
When I was a kid, I left my game boy on after the game over from Super Mario Land 2 after failing to beat Wario for the 10th time. I thought the game was possessed after this played and freaked out.
Haha me too! I thought the game was glitched out lol
There is supposedly another Totaka Song on the Wii Shop, but it seems nobody has found it.

I heard that song all the time in Luigi's Mansion but always thought it was part of the game, so it was cool to hear where it originally came from
interesting fact: The guy who composed it voices E. Gadd
@@GiordanDiodato Really, that's actually pretty cool
3:05 Wow! I never knew that version of the song existed and this is my first time hearing it, that’s such a great find and it’s sad it wasn’t used, it sounded good as a piano theme.
I find it interesting how there's slight variations in each version. Sometimes it's the tempo, sometimes it's the rest (or lack thereof) just before the final note, sometimes it's the octave, and sometimes it's one of the actual notes (like how the last note in Link's Awakening's version is a higher pitch than in other versions)
the animal crossing performances have so much chaotic energy to them. kk slider just goes full "fuck it" mode and just starts singing misplaced notes yet still manages to make it sound okay. this is why i love kk slider.

3:36 Why is this one scraier than Luigi's Mansion!!?!? WHY
Idk
Idk but it leaves a "Mysterious" sensation, this fits with the Pikmin franchise since in the game, it's shown that all the humans are extinct, with the only remains being the "Treasures" which are actually common objects we use every day, and the fact that the game tells you that the humans probably died of radiation but doesn't tell you what actually happened and some enemies are very mysterious lile the final boss of Pikmin 3 (don't search it up if you haven't played that game or didn't finished it)
6:20 this is the cutest shit i’ve ever heard
2:05 top 10 anime endings

I'm sure you've heard by now, but Pikmin 2 has an additional instance of the song. Leaving the cave complete screen on when 100% complete for over 4 minutes (iirc, feel free to test for yourself) will result in his song being played. I didn't know it played on the cave's floor transition save screen though, that's super neat!
So that’s what the Totaka’s Song is ! I like it !
Thanks Shiromi😊.

This was my first exposure to this song and it scare me as a little kid. I thought my game was glitching out.
Totaka seems like such an interesting guy. As a kid I had no idea the bomb sequence in Mario Paint was an Easter egg - makes me appreciate it that much more now that I have some context!
I’ve had this song in the back of my mind a few days ago.

Maybe you heard it once in Luigi's Mansion all those years ago but forgot bout it til recently

Why can i relate
6:08 Hearing Yoshi hmm took me off guard and it's really adorable. We need more of that!
That's really cute song.I really loved Yoshi humming it.
5:52 the only one ive ever actually encountered, but i was so young i didn't know what it was and just assumed it was part of the theme.
I actually made the first half (kinda) of Totaka's Song as my town time in ACNL.
Huh.. I remember first hearing this in Yoshi’s Story. Then I heard it on Animal Crossing and was like “Wait!” I recognize this little tune! I’ve heard it before in another game.”
How did he manage as a newcomer to get this personal touch in every game O.O
Totaka is a gifted composer. ^^

I’m not kidding, this song hella scared me
It just creeps me out. Like totaka is always watching. ALWAYS
I got ir in Animal Crossing New Horizons and I put hidden speakers around my island and had this song playing. I freaked out my brother and friends.
Same. Yoshi's Story was my first videogame so when I heard it I got really scared
Then 6:20 happened
thank you shiromi , its really cool ,i never realized that tune is also in another game .
Great compilation. Thanks for uploading! Back in the day there was this video uploaded by a guy named Phil Bond that talked about this. But that's an old video now so it's nice to see the new additions! I feel like the Yoshi in Mario Kart is the sneakiest!
Finally, a good compilation of this gem
Pikmin 2 has 3 of them

Two if you collect every treasure in a cave
3 if you take the disk out while entering a cave
So you mean it can occur if you wait at the Save Screen without taking out the Memory Card?

Starting with Luigi’s mansion, they actually started making it more unique, which is really cool
Thanks for this video. A real gem.

Apparently it's also in Mario Odyssey as one of the things the Moe-eyes can hum when you have the shades on, but it's super rare.

I just discovered your channel. I love your Nintendo evolution videos. Keep it up. 👍
The Luigi’s Mansion version of Totaka’s Song has always been my favorite, since it seamlessly flows with that funky beat that comes out of nowhere on the controls screen, it’s perfect!
Never would’ve thought that it was hidden in Mario Kart 8, especially since you typically expect to hear Totaka’s Song in spots where the gameplay stops and you have to wait for a hot minute to hear it (it’s adorable that Yoshi is singing it though).
The ones before Yoshi’s Story and the version in Pikmin 2 though sound pretty spooky...!
I have found this song in two places in Animal Crossing New Horizons. One if you listen to the portable radio for a long time. And also, K.K. Slider will sing it on Saturdays.
I love that in Link's Awakening, the song appears during Prince Richard's cameo given the song was also in Kaeru no Tame ni Kane wa Naru
6:20 ok that's the cutest thing I've ever heard :3
That’s so cool! I remember it from Mario Paint. I was like oh shoot.... it just changed the melody real quick. Lol! Really cool! He’s been involved in many games for Nintendo. That’s so nice to see!
The Pikmin 2 one sounds like something out of Earthbound
It actually hasn't been founded in 15 YEARS! I am in shock! 😰
Just imagine as a little kid. You put down your controller or pause the game for a little bit to go and do something. Like grab a snack or use the bathroom or something. You come back to your game and this song starts to play. You would probably be freaked out if you were an 8 year old back then.
It seems to come out of nowhere in some while others it’s blended well.
Yoshi singing is cute and all but he better pay his taxes!
Not funny
Didn't laugh
I you are talking about the smg4 yoshi
2:30 This could fit a horror game well.
It's fitting that it was added in Luigi's Mansion, then.
Just heard this being hummed by K.K. Slider in new horizons, so had to look this up :)
Wow, there was a 3-year hiatus of this treat!
An iconic tune.
Thanks for this vid! I've heard about it before, but I didn't know it was in so many games! It seems to be associated with Animal Crossing and Yoshi the most. It appeared in two areas with frogs in early games. How did you even find that one in Mario Kart 8?
The first time I ever heard this song was in Luigi’s mansion so now I think of Luigi’s mansion when I hear it
I knew this meant something! I always thought it was normally played at the end of the trial mode song in Yoshi Story Wii, and then I heard it at the end of KK Song in animal crossing new horizons and realized it was a nintendo easter egg
I remember getting that on yoshi's story when I was 5 or 6, and I too was scared to play the game anymore.
pikmin 2 is the creepiest, mainly the background music before
And they didn't include it in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The game with almost every Nintendo song known to man.
Happy Easter!...
Fitting that this is one of Nintendo’s biggest Easter eggs.
Mario Paint was arguably everyone's first encounter with this song.
Gonna need an update vid, it's in Link's Awakening for the Switch now, too.
Can’t wait to hear this in the Link’s Awakening remake!
@Spoono Mode Me too. idk because it had Japanese characters. if in an update, they add japan characters in the English keyboard, yeet the beeping gameboi

In Animal Crossing City Folk (and possibly also Wild World. never tested it there), Kapp'n will sing the song during the character creation sequence if you wait for 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
And now we can add the awesome Animal Crossing New Horizons game to this list! Awesome video!!!
This song used to terrify me when i was little and it still does
After clompeting a cave in pikmin 2 you wait for a while and then the Totaka's Song will play
