      Most of the "hard landing" videos you see aren't even hard landings, just poor (or intentionally poor) camera work and overdone gasps or exclamations. A cynical person would say it's intentional to get views.

    • @duijffmedia
      @duijffmedia Před rokem +3

      I agree, their aircraft safety and staff is not the problem. Their pilots and cabine crew are amazingly talentend, motivated, hard working and very capable!
      I feel the problem is more the economic motivation of the company; sure an airline needs to make as much profit as possible… But never on the backs of their hard working employees who have (in my opinion as a formal cabin manager at a Dutch blue-ish airline haha) bad working conditions (contract-wise) and are always being pushed to the limits…
      Passengers need to realize that it is unlogical that you can fly 4 hours for 50 euro’s and expect that the staff is paid well…
      So staff and safety are very good. Employee treatment, not so much…

    I think what gets a lot of virtual pilots in trouble are "landing grades" in Virtual Airline programs. They induce sim pilots to extend flares halfway down the runway or longer to obtain "a good number". What sim pilots do not realize is the real aircraft does not have a meter / grade feature showing "fps at touchdown".

    • @Hk-uw8my
      @Hk-uw8my Před rokem

    Thanks Emi. Again - very interesting. I note the mention of trim in your narration. Can you give a general idea of the point at which the last trimming is performed.....i.e. trim should not be used after ???? when?? (I gather the a/c is fully trimmed when disconnecting autopilot for a manual landing)

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  Před rokem +2

      There is no general point there, but I'd say as soon as the flare manouver begins.
      Here's the theory: Once you pass your landing gate you are supposed to be on your Vref+xx speed and should not need any speed changes anymore. Without speed changes you don't need to trim.
      However when the plane feels out of trim just correct it. I can't tell you any exact defined point where not to trim anymore, but certainly I *can* tell you not to trim once the flare has started. The rest is pilot judgement.

  • @LennardA320
    @LennardA320 Před rokem +1

    Normally what you call the 'round out' is at 30/20 feet pitching the nose slightly up to slow the vertical speed and after that you go automatically in the flaire where you again slightly increase pitch and turn your engines to Idle. And then you set it at the ground ideally at the touchdown markers.
    I look always at the touchdown markers and I fly allways a little bit lower over the treshold so I don't have to let say break the rate of decent quite abruptly because if you do that at 20 feet its hard to estimate the amount of backpressure you need to give to stop the fast v/s and direct flaire. Those 2 actions so close to the runway make it very hard to avoid a hard landing or floating.
    Instead of the round wout I like a more a more even v/s trough the calling 50/40/30/20 and then initiate the flaire. And because I focus on the radio altimeter so instesd of breaking the v/s and directly after the flaire my v/s is slightly less so I only have to focus on the flaire beginning outbound 30ft. And because of the callouts I don't look at the end of the runway and that is maybe also because I have 1 screen so I can't use my peripheral vision to determine the v/s as much if I had 3 screens. When flying a lot with a type plane you get the memory how close you are to the runway.
    Can anyone with experience comment on if I learned landing the plane the wrong way. So if I for instance want to fly Real that I NEED to get rid off my bad habit landing the plane or is what I do not that big of a problem? Most of my landings are pretty smooth if I look at the touchdown markers instead of the end of the runway.

    About as nice of a landing you can get in MSFS. But just a thought about the physics.. Just watch at 4:15 how when the aircraft lands it feels like a balloon on wheels. No compression. No indication of weight. It all sort of just tilts around on an axis. In X Plane you will see the shifting weight of the fuselage as well as the wings due to the forces of gravity.

      @@flightsimulatorenthousiast6360 The height at which you start the flare depends on the conditions of the day. If you watch the last video on my channel I actually flare (the real airplane) at 10ft. Other days I need to flare at 50ft (downdrafts, tailwind gust, steep approach etc.)
