Garett is hella mad that people are biting his style lol but i'm sure he has bitten from his favorite photographers. Let these people bite and create their own style from your style at the end of the day its just inspiration. That man needs to chill lmao
*for fucking real.. he's acting like he invented everything in photography when he probably copied too when he started and his actual style is the result of learning a little bit from every photographer he used to follow.. I lost my respect for him*
I mean, it's just an orange and teal look with luminance compression. Hollywood has done this way before him. I think he does an awesome job at composition and story. He could change the colorgrading and still have good photos.
his style of editing is no stranger to the wedding photography industry where trees and grass looks poisoned, yellowish and brown instead of fresh greens and highlights is muted all the way down..plus every colors or presets can be dissected by anyone with a little bit of editing knowledge. . good photography is not only about colours.. dude needs to chill
@@vitabcdefghijklmno "poisoned" haha
I know for a fact he is got his style from other photographers
Nothing more annoying than people hiding how things get done. If you are the best, then you shouldn’t worry about someone exceeding you because you should be growing by time they even learn it, if anything they will just switch the style up and create their own, which is exactly what he did. Eventually ppl will find out your style and top you.
The biggest game changer in my work was realizing "it just looks cool" is a legitimate reason to try something. Anyone who uses big words to elevate themselves and gatekeep their style behind technical knowledge is trying to deceive you. There's nothing complicated about learning typography. It's a very simple art form . I love Garret's work, but his philosophy is worthless on this subject.
Truth
*nothing but truth man..*
2 years later and his presets are out
I love your work so much bro, but I respectfully share the opinion that these “idiots” are on their own journey and they are taking inspiration from their hero’s.
I’m very blessed to be a successful filmmaker and have made films for a living for over 5 years and I remember when I was experimenting and publishing work that was super similar and inspired by my hero’s. Let’s support everyone on their creative travels. Let the market and consumer decided how they are judged and give blessings to those newbies that admire your work Reality is as they are trying to learn what you’re doing you’re already creating your next round of magic.
I hope this comment isn’t taken as a crisis as it’s not. You’re amazing, keep inspiring and feel the love bro! ❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏
Damn.. thought he was different. Don’t be like this kids. Think in abundance. Your gifts are given to you to share with the world not to belittle other people.
Before people made videos about "how to edit like shortstache" i don't think Garett was open to teaching people his style (i get it, because it's unique).. but now people have taken his photos apart and are teaching it for free on CZcams and he does not like that so to cash in on this he created one that teaches people how to find their own style. the thing is, most of us on this video know how to use lightroom well but are inspired by his tones so we would like to know exactly HOW he does it! even if it is not to imitate it.. imitation is the highest form of flattery Mr Garett and all this interview did was tell me that the videos are spot on!
You obviously missed the entire message.
And here's the thing, his "Basesets" workshop doesn't even show how to edit like him. He uses old photos that look nothing like the ones on his instagram or website, and gives horrible, unscripted explanations for what he's doing. Total joke and a complete waste of money. Reminds me of all the EDM artists doing tutorials, opening their project files and seeing nothing but bounced audio tracks. Like, dude, that's teaching me NOTHING. If I'm going to learn, you have to show me, step-by-step, exactly what you're doing from the very start, to the very end.
But no one, nowhere, is willing to do that.
@@bluepoint1939 I did not think he will teach exactly what he does when he launched the class, have you heard him speak on the matter? he really hates people who jack his style lol..when i started out, i was really inspired by his work but as i grew into photography and created my style i realized that i dont want to have all my photos look the same and definitely not like his
This guy sells presets.
For one time, Podcast which doesn't talk about the same thing! Thank you guys! 🦄
Thank youu! What do other podcasts talk about anyways?
Did you really have to call people idiots? Learn how to criticize constructively..lost my respect for this guy.. there’s no problem If people are inspired by you, and try to imitate your work..its completely normal.. you should be the bigger person and help them improve or offer some advice..calling them idiots is just outright rude imo..literally ever photographer takes inspiration from someone else’s work.. you need to chill man, Don’t be a jerk!
facts, i like dude but he's cocky
True.. He is rude Af..!!
@@actionyear Cocky and single lol. He even says it

These podcasta are soo good man. Just came across them and really love them. It's so awesome to hear the 'big guys' thought process on being a creative and life in general. Keep them coming!
Thanks so much! We appreciate it!
Somebody counted how many times said "yeah" the guy in the middle?😅
Its great to see and also hard to watch at the same time the hurt that goes into being good at whatever you do when someone talented speaks of their journey. I don't think people realise the hard work involved in being the best you can be in any trade. Great video boys! Nuff said !
Thanks so much Ian! For sure we completely agree, can definitely see the passion behind what Garrett does!
This podcast with him just changed my perception about being original in the work you do. So inspiring!
That's so good to hear! Thank you!
So, how is his preset selling now? :D
Garrett' work is by far one of my favorite work for sure, but he sounds so negative about people who look at his work for inspiration. Bro like no one is showing only how to edit like you only. If you're only creating work just for you, then don't display it...I do love your work but you seem off to me as a person, sometimes it's okay to replicate someone else's work and eventually as an artist you grow and develop your look your style.
Plot twist...Now hes selling presets
Peter McKinnon copied his fav photographer and now he is successful so copying is not a bad thing as it makes you learn alot.
McKinnon would have the opposite reaction to these questions. He would have been pumped to see people trying what he was doing knowing he inspired it. Shortstache is incredible at his craft, but this was a bit of a rough take.
@@aaronmullen which is funny because they’re huge friends irl.
Great video. If u want to learn from other people, then do it but add own ideas on to that or else u are wasting your time. That's a great tips for people to learn from
Thank you!! Yes for sure!!
I love Shortstache, he's my favourite photographer on ig, but i think its funny at 2:08 he mentions centring your type, if you scroll back to his very first photo post with text on it, the text is not centred.
Perfect title 👌
Haha yess! Glad you got it!
Oh, wow. What a hater and jerk he is. So sad to have watched this.
we need more a creative people like this to come to this podcast
Have you watched all the previous episodes? We've talked to so many creative people :)
@@529Podcast yes sure, I've been watching all the podcast from you guys :) keep it up the good work! still waiting for the new podcast
anyone else know what he says at 1:47 ? Carney or Kearney - is it a type of font? or does that word have another meaning?
he's talking about kerning, designers use space between letters when creating a font/writing text to express/achieve different results.
@@nomondayclub boom 👊 my man thanks - the more you know 💫
What if I really like that editting style and I don´t like anything else? I don´t wanna imitate Garett but I feel like I have the same style, I also wear the same colours etc.
“Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah”
this is the reality.
3 of my favourite photographers 😁
Ayee thanks so much!
Love the podcast, only tip is stop saying yeah after every phrase, its very distracting
I've waited til the end of the video to get to the comments and I feel so relieved to see that I'm not the only one to think this dude sounds like a jerk. Everyone, in any type of art or whatsoever, copies the ones that have figured it out to get started ! Mimicking is exactly how you get good at something and then develop your own signature ! Just chill out ffs. Also, funny to see your presets for sale now lmao
im so glad he called out presets
Yesss!
Calls them out, yet turns around and sells them himself. What a joke. Guess it really is all about the money with these guys.
Shortstache is GOAT af
He sure is!
Anyone did the yea count on this one?😂
