Garett is hella mad that people are biting his style lol but i'm sure he has bitten from his favorite photographers. Let these people bite and create their own style from your style at the end of the day its just inspiration. That man needs to chill lmao

*for fucking real.. he's acting like he invented everything in photography when he probably copied too when he started and his actual style is the result of learning a little bit from every photographer he used to follow.. I lost my respect for him*

I mean, it's just an orange and teal look with luminance compression. Hollywood has done this way before him. I think he does an awesome job at composition and story. He could change the colorgrading and still have good photos.

his style of editing is no stranger to the wedding photography industry where trees and grass looks poisoned, yellowish and brown instead of fresh greens and highlights is muted all the way down..plus every colors or presets can be dissected by anyone with a little bit of editing knowledge. . good photography is not only about colours.. dude needs to chill

Nothing more annoying than people hiding how things get done. If you are the best, then you shouldn’t worry about someone exceeding you because you should be growing by time they even learn it, if anything they will just switch the style up and create their own, which is exactly what he did. Eventually ppl will find out your style and top you.

The biggest game changer in my work was realizing "it just looks cool" is a legitimate reason to try something. Anyone who uses big words to elevate themselves and gatekeep their style behind technical knowledge is trying to deceive you. There's nothing complicated about learning typography. It's a very simple art form . I love Garret's work, but his philosophy is worthless on this subject.

I love your work so much bro, but I respectfully share the opinion that these “idiots” are on their own journey and they are taking inspiration from their hero’s.
I’m very blessed to be a successful filmmaker and have made films for a living for over 5 years and I remember when I was experimenting and publishing work that was super similar and inspired by my hero’s. Let’s support everyone on their creative travels. Let the market and consumer decided how they are judged and give blessings to those newbies that admire your work Reality is as they are trying to learn what you’re doing you’re already creating your next round of magic.
I hope this comment isn’t taken as a crisis as it’s not. You’re amazing, keep inspiring and feel the love bro! ❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏

Before people made videos about "how to edit like shortstache" i don't think Garett was open to teaching people his style (i get it, because it's unique).. but now people have taken his photos apart and are teaching it for free on CZcams and he does not like that so to cash in on this he created one that teaches people how to find their own style. the thing is, most of us on this video know how to use lightroom well but are inspired by his tones so we would like to know exactly HOW he does it! even if it is not to imitate it.. imitation is the highest form of flattery Mr Garett and all this interview did was tell me that the videos are spot on!

And here's the thing, his "Basesets" workshop doesn't even show how to edit like him. He uses old photos that look nothing like the ones on his instagram or website, and gives horrible, unscripted explanations for what he's doing. Total joke and a complete waste of money. Reminds me of all the EDM artists doing tutorials, opening their project files and seeing nothing but bounced audio tracks. Like, dude, that's teaching me NOTHING. If I'm going to learn, you have to show me, step-by-step, exactly what you're doing from the very start, to the very end.
But no one, nowhere, is willing to do that.

Garrett' work is by far one of my favorite work for sure, but he sounds so negative about people who look at his work for inspiration. Bro like no one is showing only how to edit like you only. If you're only creating work just for you, then don't display it...I do love your work but you seem off to me as a person, sometimes it's okay to replicate someone else's work and eventually as an artist you grow and develop your look your style.
