    Just got mine today! I didn’t even have to set it up it was ready to go! I have no problem with the electronics and the pickups sound great. The neck feels smooth it fits great in the hands, string tension feels good too. The gun metal gray looks badass and the bird inlays make it look even nicer. This ain’t no damn strat, it’s a fricken PRS NF3!!! I really have nothing negative to say about it, for $799 this one’s a steal go for it and enjoy it! 👍🏼

      I got the gun metal gray myself. No complaints, was setup perfectly right from the box. Tremelo is very smooth too. I agree the output of the pickups is very low but I think that's how they make it for less hum. Fender noiseless strat pickups has the same low output too. NF3 pickups has a better tone than Fender Noiseless IMO.

      @@evanharnett I’ve noticed a small intonation issue with the one that I have which is an easy fix. I really like the NF3 a lot. It is its own thing so I’m glad PRS decided to produce it. Thanks for watching/commenting and subscribe if you can!

    I believe the silver sky having the tremolo deck raises the volume naturally. But yea I agree: these humbucker pickups can be raised a lot higher than the single coils with less issues

    • @Sick_Strings01
      @Sick_Strings01  Před 2 dny

      I’m curious, why do you think having the trem deck raises the volume? Certainly the humbuckers will have less noise/hum coming from them.

      @@paulmiller657 it definitely could be an isolated issue but it seems to be that with any “budget” range guitar electronics are always the weak point or the savings for the company selling it. Thanks for watching and I hope you enjoy your NF3! Stay tuned.

    The best analogy ive heard so far is that the near field pickups are like the perfect in between of a p90 and a humbucker. They seem to have all the best qualities of each.

    • @Sick_Strings01
      @Sick_Strings01  Před 17 dny +1

      To my ear, the narrow field pickup falls in between a strat and P90 sound wise. I love a good P90, it might be my favorite pickup overall. Something about having that little bit of hum adds to the sound for me. Thanks for watching and stick around for more!

    I popped the hood on mine and discovered both pots are linear taper. They are high-quality pots made by Alpha in the ROK and the switch is a good quality CRL clone; soldering is very good. The SE NF pickups are true 4-wire type, so you have options for parallel and split switching. I will be installing audio-type pots for a smoother sweep over the entire rotation of the pots.

      I’m just gonna be honest, you are speaking in a different language, whooaaa. Lol, I need to dig deeper into the ins and outs of wiring and pots. It’s been my experience that this is where most manufacturers save on production, electronics and wiring. Thanks so much for watching and I hope you come back for more!

    I got one and played it over the weekend. I’ve played Silver Sky guitars for quite a while. The NF3 sounds very different from the Silver Sky. To my ears, the pickups on the NF3 don’t sound like S style single coil pickups. They should a bit like a cross between a P90 and a mini humbucker.

    • @Sick_Strings01
      @Sick_Strings01  Před 29 dny

      Which color did you go with? To me it still retains some of the character of the single coil sound but it is different. Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more!

    I bought one after watching your first video. I agree that the volume pot isn't great. Mechanically, it works okay, but below 8 or so it seems useless. I think it needs a treble bleed circuit to make it as useable as possible. The taper of the tone pot also seems to have three settings - all on, a slight roll off of highs, and a weird sound at zero. That could be improved too. The tone control on my S2 Mira is the best ever, so they know how to make one work extremely well. That said, mine plays extremely well and is very comfortable and resonant. The strings have very low tension, almost like a top-loaded tele. And I found that the pickups are very useable and don't feel like traditional humbuckers (which is what I wanted). The neck pickup is shockingly good. Not overly bassy, which was what I feared.

      I’ve had two PRS’s over the years and they both had volume pot issues. The last one was a Post COVID SE Custom 24 and the pot went out. It was always on. Seems to be a real issue.

    new guitarist here! just wondering what are the things i should be looking out for on this guitar regarding the setup and things that i can fix once i unbox it? i just want to make sure the guitar is in its peak playable state but also not break the guitar on accident while trying to setup
    i understand every se nf3 delivered arent going to be the same and will differ for every persons guitar, but just wanted kind of like a checklist to make sure the guitar i get is in a good setup state! (i get mine delivered this friday)

    • @Sick_Strings01
      @Sick_Strings01  Před 14 dny

      @@jongwonl in my experience, most guitars initially have the string height too high. This is something that is personal so you might try out a few guitars to see what you like. Some people like strings that are almost sitting on the frets they are so low. Some like the strings set higher, it’s all personal preference. I usually let a guitar tech set guitars up for me simply because of time. They will check all the boxes making sure things are correct before they are done. If you could change one thing about it, what would it be? I’m considering buying one, but it doesn’t seem like the reviewers have had much of an emotional response/connection to it. They comment on build quality and neck feel but seem neutral on the pickups.

    • @Sick_Strings01
      @Sick_Strings01  Před měsícem

      For me it would be the neck as I prefer the Silver Sky SE neck. The great thing is that I could do that if I really wanted to as it attaches identically as the Silver Sky SE. From my experience with the SE line, when people refer to not having an “emotional connection” to them, it’s that the pickups seemed lifeless or clinical no mojo no soul. In the past I would say that is true but the last few years that has changed. I’ll be doing a comparison video of PRS SE guitars soon! Thanks for watching and subscribe!
