I was once out strolling one very hot, summer's day
When I thought I'd lay myself down to rest
In a big field of tall grass.
I lay there in the sun
And felt it caressing my face
As I fell asleep
And dreamed.
I dreamed I was in a Hollywood movie
And that I was the star of the movie.
This really blew my mind,
The fact that me,
An overfed, long-haired, leaping gnome,
Should be the star of a Hollywood movie.
Hmm, but there I was.
I was taken to a place,
The hall of the mountain king.
I stood high upon a mountain top,
Naked to the world,
In front of every kind of girl.
There was long ones, tall ones, short ones, brown ones,
Black ones, round ones, big ones, crazy ones.
Out of the middle
Came a lady.
She whispered in my ear
Something crazy.
She said,
Spill the wine, take that pearl.
Spill the wine, take that pearl.
Spill the wine, take that pearl.
Spill the wine, take that pearl."
I could feel hot flames of fire roaring at my back
As she disappeared,
But soon she returned.
In her hand was a bottle of wine,
In the other, a glass.
She poured some of the wine from the bottle into the glass
And raised it to her lips
And, just before she drank it,
She said,
Take the wine, take that girl.
Spill the wine, take that pearl.
Spill the wine, take that pearl.
Spill the wine, take that pearl."
Take that pearl, yeah.
It's on girl, all you gotta do is spill that wine, spill that wine.
Let me feel, let me feel fine, yeah, yeah.
Spill the wine, spill the wine, spill the wine, spill the wine, spill the wine, spill the wine, spill the wine, take that pearl. - Hudba
Back in the day you could routinely hear songs this good on the radio.
It was called the 1970s.
Yeah, I remember. 😁
Or Chicago radio through the 1990s
Shameless brought me here, thank you Frank.

Boogie Nights led me this way. Damn this song rocks
The level of creativity in this masterpiece is beyond measure.
Bro': The proto-rapping. The living, lively, lush multiculturalism. This White Brit boy and the Black-and-Tan San Jose low-ride band putting Eminem to a Santana spliff before Detroit Dude ever took his first baby stroll in a trailer park. Feel it, feel this for wot (what) y'it (it) truly iz (is):
THIS...this is farkin', phucken, fabulously DECADES AHEAD OF ITS TIME. It ain't just a masterpiece, which it surely is. It's PROPHECY.
Remember the first time I heard this in 1970; I was 15 and the world was mine. The best music is from the 60's and early 70's and this is one fine example.
Totally agree. 1965 to 1975 best for all forms of entertainment in history.
Thanks for sharing your sweet memory! One of the truely relevant comments :)
Absolutely, My Favorite 60's and Early 70's...
Is it tru back then you could fuk a stranger with no condom and all you had to worry about was Chlamydia???
Shameless - Season 7 x Episode 12, second to final scene brought me here. 🧡
The super fabulous ERIC BURDON !!!! Most under-rated singer of all time!!! with WAR ,one of the most under -rated groups of all time , Hall of Famers ! WE LOVE YOU!!!
Remember gettin' high and listening to this song at a lake at a local park with a buddy in 1970 when it first came out.. We started the song, all the geese in the lake swam over to us, stayed till the end of the song, then swam off! No lie!
men you were as high as fuck....so do you still smoke?
That is amazingly cool!
Reply was for Mike March
The 70' was the best decade ever. It will never be repeated ever.
It was wonderful in many ways, and a nightmare for many of us living in small town with an abuse father.
Life was a living dichotomy that affected me all my life. Fantastic music and outdoor adventures for sure though
It was a very "magical" decade.
1970 to 1972 was good as was 1978 to 1979 (with the beginning of punk and New Wave), but the middle of the decade was mostly terrible.
I was a Paper Boy when this came out.
I'm 61 now. Still a Classic song.
Do I Dig That Girl....
Thank you Gallaghers.
Being a classic rock fan brought me here... This song is far ahead of its time.
Ah these youngsters... bragging that this show or that movie replaced their musical knowledge... this was always a sexy, crazy song about a dream. War was huge.
Spill the wine, take that pearl. Take the wine, dig that girl. R.I.P Monica. I love you babe😘🍷
I always see that Frank is a good father
Kurt boareachi those kids are turning out okay no thanks to frank

Im 62
I grew up listening to this music. Good music 🎶
. . . just one word . . . FANTASTIC!!!!
It was an instant classic the day It was released
Hard to believe it was 1970. I was 4. Now it seems still new to us. Groovy, catchy, classic.
I was 6 that summer so I don't remember it. Of course at that age I only heard the music my parents put on. The only rock song I remember from that summer was, The Pipkins ~ 'Gimme Dat Ding'.
We spent that summer by the sea in Maine. During the drive back, this song, 'Gimme Dat Ding' by The Pipkins came on the radio. My mom was appalled at the lyrics, thinking they encouraged impoliteness.
She imagined some long haired hippie screaming this song loudly into the microphone, encouraging children everywhere toward impoliteness. She talked about it for years, but that was the only time I ever heard the song until I found it on youtube.
Of course, at age 6, Saturday morning cartoons made a bigger impression on me than anything.
Simply put one of the coolest songs ever recorded in the history of music...
One of the coolest songs ever! :)
Jordan Blanchard i wouldn t spill the wine but i d take that pearl....
i agree with you, goes through generations...
Yeah, but I'd rather "take that girl" instead

Eric Burdon and WAR ft. Ron Burgundy on flute
Exactly, including playing under the door in the toilet stall
This is without question a song that has aged real well. 47 years old and still grooving!
This song was my late brother's favorite along with Born on the Bayou by CCR. Both these songs came on the radio back to back when I was heading back to Los Angeles from Phoenix the next day after my brother's funeral.
Boogie Nights reminded me of this song!
Eric has one of the best voices
The man had soul then and still has it!!!
Rip uncle Phil grooving out to this in heaven
I just bought this CD on Amazon! I cant wait to get it.Also bought Eric's book "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" He is AMAZING! "Spill the Wine" makes me melt! YES...I would be an Eric Burdon groupie back in the day! Does he have a fan page? I am in AWE of his talent!

Too bad this kick ass classic isn’t longer. Back then they made songs damn near as long as movies lol. Miss those days.
Boogie Nights!!! Had some pretty good trips to this song too.

I slapped my naked belly to the beat to this all the way through
This is killer Eric Burdon and war the music was the greatest 1970 Yeah 👍
Oh my goodness that flute flame!
This song plays in head all the time. Great acoustics, being such a vast empty space. Never leave the Garden, stay awhile.
Eric Burdon was the lead singer of The Animals who achieved their popularity during the British Invasion of the 60's-This is an awesome song which reached # 3 in the summer of 1970.
Reminds me of hanging out with my grandpa eating watermelon in our front yard in the summer. Miss that old man everyday 😢 grateful I grew up with his music
What state was that watermelon?😀
If Fresh Prince didn't bring you here, Boogie Nights did.
In 1970, I was 10 years old, still heard this song, now I'm 61, 1 day before end 2021.

I first heard this back in 1986! I know, years after it came out. I was Berkeley, walking down Telegraph on a summer afternoon. It was a feeling that no drug could replace.

My memory of this song is from second grade. I went boating with a friend of mine and his dad. This song was playing on the radio and he thought it was saying "tic tac girl". Idk why but that was a really fun day and this song reminds me of that day. Haha
it's the summer of 1996 and I'm running a beer route in upstate new york for the Brooklyn Brewery...i'm in nyack, lost on some side street near the hudson river and this song comes on the classic rock station...
saw it live in 1971..I was 13
Eric Burden one of our all time treasure's!
Great music. Takes me back to the early days of my first tour of duty in Vietnam.... some not so great times.
# 3 hit from the summer of 1970 & an all-time classic.
When I was 5 years old (in 1978) I inherited the 45 rpm records of my parents and aunts and uncles when I got my first record player. This song was amongst one of the records I would end up playing over and over again...because I loved it. At 5 years old. I had no idea what Eric Burdon was singing about, but it was a fun song to listen to. And it still is, now that I'm 44 years old.
I first heard this classic in 1985 or 1986 on MTV's closet classics. Damn, I still love this tune!!
One of the greatest songs ever!!!
Spill the wine, take that pearl!
Shameless brought me here and I like the songs. Thanks 😘😊👍🏼
Really just one of the greatest songs of all time. Great riff, great hook, spoken word great singing. Tells a story too. Fantastic!!
Loved Eric Burden and War on that awesome track, so creative for it's day
...& actually the fullstop belonged right after the word *creative*.
It was so creative for any day.
Jus’ saying’.😎👍
Summer of ‘71, this was huge! I still remember that summer. This song is a masterpiece of jazz-rock fusion and imagery. You can’t listen to it without the scenes playing out in your mind.
I was a young drummer with my first set of Rogers drums. After seeing Santana and hearing War's congas, 6 months later I had bought my first conga. Yes just 1. This was in 71!🪘🪇🪈
Eric Burdon is my absolute idol, then and now.
I was 5 and this song was new. We were at Balboa park and I danced with my first love to this song. I have no idea who she was, but I will never forget her. I was five years old.
It's 12/22/2018 and I still enjoy this song. Brings back so many memories! To be 10 years old again!
