  • North American Lighting (NAL), a Koito Group Company, has been manufacturing automotive lighting systems for vehicle manufacturers since 1983. NAL provides advanced lighting technology, engineering design expertise, and state of the art production capabilities.
NAL works with some of the largest automotive OEMs in North America, speed and precision are critical. As a result, tooling is important for the teams at NAL.To remain productive and reduce downtime, the team needed to find a way to streamline their process.
The team at NAL turned to 3D printing and the MakerBot METHOD X, producing several tooling components in-house rather than outsourcing to external vendors.
The industrial-grade materials available on METHOD X also enabled them to replace heavy and costly aluminum parts with lighter weight and durable options, like nylon carbon fiber.
Seeing the results from the machine encouraged them to expand the use of 3D printing to other applications and other teams.
