Boris Karloff makes everything great. This is a movie series that I'll just eat up the next few days!
Love the whole Charlie Chan series. What other knock-offs were there aside from this and Peter Lorre's Mr. Moto?
Weird little sub-genre but it employed a lot of Asians and presented them in a good light.

Doubtless the biggest chunk of the budget went towards Boris' salary...so, watch out for cardboard sets (as well as cardboard acting from the rest of the junior varsity cast!).

The film is historical. It has nothing to do with free speech or “cancel” culture. I’m Asian American and believe it’s important to preserve films like this. Old films tell us a lot about the past and how people thought back then.
OKAY. I QUIT.23 MINUTES INTO IT, 20 MINUTES TOO LONG. GRANT WITHERS IS TOO AWFUL TO ENDURE AS A MAIN CHARACTER. THE OTHERS AINT MUCH BETTER. BORIS IS BORIS AND THAT'S OKAY BY ME.
Karloff is good, but definitely ISN’T Chinese; isn’t it silly that these stories were so popular, even though racial-prejudice at the time would allow a Chinese star?!
I hope that the enjoyment People found in them helped to break-down the Social fear/distaste.
