      I know this is a year after your comment but I'm currently looking at going back to school to get my masters. I'm trying to look at schools in Chicago as well and am reading a huge mix of reviews and opinions about the programs there. I am just curious if you would mind sharing which school you got into and what you think about the program so far?

      @@ellrisa8576 Hello! I go to Loyola University in Chicago. I do enjoy my program and I feel like they support their students well. I also enjoy how supportive my cohort is. And after my first two semesters I feel prepared to go into my placement next year. I hope this helps!

    Just had an Eds program virtual interview yesterday and I think it went well! The interviewer told me I had a strong application and was excited to meet with me and it was more of a conversation, we had a lot in common (both worked in alternative schools, interested in social justice, and love hiking) and the interview actually went way over the allotted time and she emailed me and said it was a pleasure talking with me! There was one question that tripped me up but after she rephrased it I think it went ok. Some tips I used were writing out my answers to common questions and having them on my screen for reference during the interview. I hope I get in I don’t know if the signs truly prove I’m in? Anyways thank you for the tips! Love your channel!

      Wow it sounds like the interview went really well! Typically, candidates write a thank you email first so they must be really interested in you 😊 I love when interviewers make you feel comfortable so you can be yourself. Was this your top choice? Good luck!!

    This was very helpful! I'm in the process of interviewing right now to EDS programs - I had one interview last month and 4 this month. So far, they are all over Zoom. It is expected that you do treat the virtual interviews and activities as you would if you were to go in person (so showing up to as many events as you can, taking time off of work if you need to, etc). At my first interview, all faculty and students addressed how they are supporting students through to COVID. There were no "trick questions" and everything was pretty straight forward. I really hope my upcoming interviews are this way too! An important thing that I noted, is to see how much emphasis a program places on research because then you will get more detailed questions asking you about your previous research, research plans, and how your previous roles will impact your research.

    • @TiffanyLee
      @TiffanyLee  Před 3 lety

      wow I hope your interviews are going well :D I love your tidbit on asking about research. It's definitely a great idea to create your own windows of opportunity to learn about the program and share more about yourself and your interests.

    In regards to covid, I guess many interviews take place online regardless due to distance issues... but one thing I found frustrating or annoying and might help someone prepare better.. in a zoom interview, it's quite hard to communicate with body language and or observe nonverbal cues from professors who you are responding to (one of my interviewers was a thumbnail image with no videos who was asking most of the questions) it's very unsettling to be talking to a photo. Prepare to remain composed and calm even in such circumstances.
    Another thing was that when I was asked a question, I felt the immediate need to respond right away so as not to seem like I did not know what to say. However, maybe taking a bit of time to consider and formulate my response would have been better?
    Anyhow, I got in, and the professor actually said they appreciated my articulation, agility, and humbleness.
    And yes. Ask questions. Ask the hard questions, don't be compromising, or ask redundant questions whose answers are already online. The seriousness of your questioning will be remembered.
    But with all that said, be grateful and humble. It's a great opportunity to be even given an interview.

    My interviewer asked me if I had any questions in the beginning! I was thrown off so quickly and was like ummmmmm “what’s the lab environment like 🥲” and honestly felt like I bombed that question but nailed a lot of other aspects of the interview. It felt very casual. The professor emailed me personally and set up the meeting. But idk. I’m in my head.
