Tiana didn't compromise anything falling in love with Naveen though. Like Ariel gave up her exploring, Jasmine gave up her freedom etc... but Tiana consistently wanted to have a successful restaurant she built and she gets that, she gets more than that. She learns that you don't have to be alone, you can be in love and still get what you've been working for.
Eden Sanden right she didn’t depend on a men she worked to get a restaurant
The Aesop that's hammered into Tiana from her mom, dad and Odie is that she'll only find true happiness with a man, not her dream of owning a restaurant. You can make an argument that the lesson is materialism is bad, but what's worse is telling girls that you'll never be fully happy as a single woman with a career unless you marry a man. Thankfully Zootopia took a different route and let Judy reach her dream job without needing to fall in love with the first guy she met. Hopefully Elsa stays single in Frozen 2.
Exactly. Falling in love doesn't mean you can't achieve your wants and dreams.
BishtrainerTai16 I disagree. I think they were telling her that her ambitions are great, but that she’s allowed to want more than just that.
It’s very nuanced for a black female character to be told that, especially because, in many narratives, we’re told we can’t have love because we’re too strong and independent. Tiana was, but she was also human and very much allowed to want more than one thing.
BishtrainerTai16 Actually the lesson hammered into her wasn’t she won’t be happy without a man, it’s that she won’t be happy without love. Yes she falls in love and gets married, but she straight out says that her father didn’t have what he wanted, he had what he needed, love. He had the love of his family and community. Tiana worked hard and forgot about how love brings people together and makes them stronger and it wasn’t until she fell in love that she realized that her restaurant wouldn’t bring her true happiness unless she had the people she loved with her as well. I think that if Tiana hadn’t lost her dad things probably would have taken a different route as it appears that after her dad’s death she pushed all Love aside to open the restaurant they dreamed of opening. Mamma Odie doesn’t tell her she’ll be happy if she marries a guy, she reminds her that her father didn’t have a restaurant but had love from friends and family and that that was enough for him. If you only look at it on the surface like you are yes, it comes across as saying young girls can’t be happy without a man, Tirana’s mom wants grandkids, I’m pretty sure someone asks when she’ll settle down and Mamma Odie plays matchmaker, but if you dig a little deeper (pun completely intended) and look a little closer you’ll see that they’re trying to say work hard for your dreams, but that without love, be it platonic, familial, or romantic, you will never be truly happy. Pay attention she doesn’t say her father had what he needed because he was married, she said it was because he had love. If they were really trying to say young women won’t be happy without a man they’d of had her say because he married her mom or they’d of killed her mom off and had her say because her mom married her dad, but she doesn’t. She says he had love. That’s the real thing they’re saying that without love, there isn’t any true happiness.
Charlotte "Lottie" La Bouff is a great character. It's refreshing to see someone who would stereotypically be cast as the main lead be such a supportive friend to a POC.
On top of that, she was a real feat in writing: a character who is spoiled, extremely privileged, yet still remains likable and sympathetic? Truly an accomplishment.
Let's not forget this was a time where racism was common and shown in those two guys who sold Tiana the restaurant. She did not treat her any less and would, and did anything for Tiana. The only reason she didn't just give her all the money immediately to buy the restaurant was because Tiana probably wouldn't let her.

I love this movie. I love how historically accurate it is, whilst still telling a fun story that doesn't shove everything in your face.
Protect this movie from a live action remake at all costs..
"A little woman of your... _background_ would have her hands full" would for sure get removed for its racist connotation, which is exactly the purpose of it being in the movie in the first place. We're not glossing over the fact that racism was very prominent in that time and the opression that people used it for, and the saddesst fact is that you see this exact wording used today. So if they ever make a live action they must keep that in because it is very important that we continue to bring it to light. Don't allow it to hide, thats how it remains.

Like cinderella good movie but you cant help to think that prince just liked her because she was different and pretty, same as Ariel, Snow white, sleeping beauty, and Frozen. He also got mad because of a newspaper? I mean if you’re gonna do sins make it count like her saying “big daddy” and the cringey lovey stuff.
"Okay, I really don't like this movie"
*yOu WhAt mAtE?¿*
Didnt realize people werent allowed to express their opinions. Also he literally follows that statement with a compliment about the movie.
I understand him falling for her, but he needed to have an arc where he realized he needed to get off his ass because the world wasn't about him. That's what they should have spent their time on.
man I might be biased but how can you not like this movie?? Like yeah I understand the little semantic things with the magic and stuff but I still think its hands down the best Disney princess movie to this day
CinemaSins: Disses Keith David's voice, Friends on the Other Side, musical similarities, and characters
The comments : *ArE YoU ReAdY?!*
(*EDIT:* Holy Pancakes, I have never got so many likes before, nor have I started something in a comment chain with just a joke, thx guys!)
Jeremy: The character with the longest song has the worst voice
Me: Wowowowow you got to much dip on your chip
I'm almost positive I already sinned these before, but I'm always up for doing it again.
0:38 Jeremy thinks a little girl kissing a frog is erotic
0:49 "Character says she's never going to do something that is thought to be impossible only to discover it actually is possible" cliche.
1:00 ...so?
1:25 Jeremy makes a Pixar reference that is not a sin of the movie cliche
1:50 okay, I admit I could be wrong here, but I'm almost positive that was not a crayon. It was a marker shaped like one.
2:27 Sinning Randy Newman
2:32 Yes, because the point of that hussle was to wait until the guy thought it was working, then take off with the money before the guy could demand his money back. Not enough to just steal people's money, he gets off on making them look like idiots.
4:02 Actually no, they wouldn't, because they're rich and therefore wouldn't think to hire someone not high end. Charlotte only does so here because she's already established that she'll do anything to get Naveen to dance and/or marry her, even if it means hiring her friend. And judging by how she just threw all that money at her, it's pretty clear to me she actually wasn't even thinking of how much she gave Tiana, she just wanted Tiana to say yes.
5:48 well when everyone knows who the prince is and what he looks like, as well as Charlotte's intentions with him, yes, yes it is. And why exactly would that be suspicious? Charlotte doesn't know what happened until later after the parade.
6:06 I'm going to hazard a guess here and say that this balcony is overlooking the bayou, therefore there WOULDN'T be any cars on this side of the house
6:17 What Jeremy's not including in this sin is that just moments ago, she was lamenting about how close she came to fulfilling her dream, and pulled out the picture her dad have her those 20 years ago, whispering "Please Please Please." She reacts like this because this is exactly what happened the first time she tried it 20 years ago. The only difference is the frog is she's screaming because it's speaking English instead of croaking like the last time.
6:36 it's already established that this is Charlotte's favorite story, one she clearly still cherishes if it's still in her room after all this time. Nothing convenient about it.
7:14 no, it's actually not convenient at all. It's established that his powers come from his "friends on the other side", and he pays them back by handing over the souls of humans that are dumb enough to fall for his tricks. If he wants something, he has to give his "friends" something in return.
7:44 Jeremy says boner
8:21 Jeremy sins something he likes cliche
8:30 Jeremy, let me give you a little mini lesson. It's super quick, you ready? A MAIN QUEST is something you are REQUIRED to do to further the plot of the story. A SIDE quest is something OPTIONAL that has no real bearing on the main plot other than to improve your stats or for an achievement. Meeting Madam Odie is a MAIN QUEST.
9:31 Sins the movie for showing how he regularly swims around the boats, where they serve Cajun cuisine, because he likes the music, then sins it again to ask how he knows so much about Cajun cuisine.
9:42 Actually the masquerade ball scene when we see it takes place after midnight, and they kissed in the early morning. Which means Tiana did in fact do both and you're just nitpicking for no reason.
10:40 the limits are they need human souls to do their nasty work, and they can't do that themselves because they don't have physical forms, so they need someone to be their emissary. And no, this is them doing a favor so he hand over the souls needed so THEY can run the town.
10:56 not even a talking one with the Prince's accent?
11:57 Well done, Jeremy. Enjoy your sin off.
12:10 Jeremy clearly knows nothing about growing up after something huge and life changing happens and having to adjust quickly in order to survive. Tiana already had to do that when her dad survived, so anything that came after that was nothing.
13:13 she absolutely DID have a clue as to who they were. She even mentions making them human before they do, so this sin is utter horseshit.
13:54 so are the other fairy tales, if you really think about it.
14:09 sins the movie for something HE is doing
14:43 no she's not, because this exact scene is here to give Naveen motivation to change his plans to marry Charlotte anyway so he can get Tiana the money she needs.
15:01 you say that like this wasn't Charlotte's plan from the get go. And I'm sorry, did you just sin the movie claiming no one could hear them, while clearly showing they COULD hear them?
15:42 wrong. She is not back into a human, that's part of the illusion he's conjuring up to get her to say yes. And again, his friends on the other side have most likely been spying on the living for years before the main characters have ever come into contact with him, so it's not that he's reading her mind, he's going off what those friends tell him.
16:18 no, this is actually a culmination of repeated setbacks where he's been skimping on his promises, and this was the final straw.
16:45 Actually no, that's not exactly true. The movie established from the get go that Tiana's been willing to sacrifice everything, including her love life, to make her dreams come true, even when family and friends warned her not to. It's not until she spends time with a guy and slowly comes to realize what she's been missing that she understands what everyone had been trying to tell her. The typical Disney trope would be her giving up everything to be with him. This movie is saying she can have both. She's not completely giving it up, she's just changing it so he can do it with her.
17:20 Jeremy answers himself.
Also Mama Odie is later shown to know alot about Tiana and be able to watch people from her gumbo tub so it makes sense she was probably looking for the two
i love and respect everyone coming for his opinions on the movie- it’s hilarious, especially since this is my favorite movie of all time. everyone is invalidating the sins and i’m HERE FOR IT-
I came to the comments to complain about the sins in this vid, but every one already covered that for me.
same, i legit stopped the video to say something in the comments but i see everyones dissing him for me
Can I add one? When Tiana’s mom reads the story, it ends with her kissing the frog. However, the frog-kissing part is in the beginning section of the story.
What did Princess and The Frog do to you?!
Plot twist. The directors of the movie murdered his parents. And he wants to ruin their careers and reputations before taking his revenge.
landt smith to quote james i think it’s the mere fact that it exists
This is my favorite Disney movie ever. I’m 17 and I still love and listen to the music. Almost There is my favorite song from the movie.
Ik this way 1 year ago but why was nobody talking about his hate for"Almost there "
i love his videos but i just hated how petty he was with this movie. i mean, it's SO GOOD!
“I don’t like this movie”
I can stomach that.
“I think the music is terrible and bland”
I can deal
“The villain has the worst voice of the whole movie”
Someone hold me back.
Mate I would've been fighting by the music part. This music is amazing! Such a difference from stereotypical princess music!
The music part made me go AT IT. These songs made my entire childhood. I ABSOLUTELY agree with the villain voice part. Other Side is a golden Disney song.
Make that two of us
Oh shit he has a monado
