Great to see you’re interested in singing Sophie !!!! Given your story, I just wonder if you’ve done some research on castrati, who were male singers castrated between ages 8-13 ? Your case is surely not the same at all given how early you had the operation, but I was still mind blown when I discovered you.
Thanks! I haven't looked into that area but I will.. it seems there has been a lot of nefarious activity over the years when it comes to doctors, children and their genitalia! What a sick world!
@@SophieOttsAlas issues like that will always exist, all while being well hidden… Castrati were overwhelmingly of Italian provenance and were extremely popular in Italy and in other European courts from the 17th to the end of the 18th century. Castration just before puberty preserves the pure voice of a male child and their lack of facial hair, but the lack of testosterone means also overdevelopment of lung capacity, height; &c… They were also prone to obesity. However castration alone didn’t guarantee a good career/better singing voice than a natural male singer. Prostitution was a common practice for some of them. I don’t know how physically and mentally the operation at adolescence affected the quality of life of those men, but I find it to be both scary and impressive that alot (including you who are of another case) survived. The human body is resilient. Either way I’m very glad that you’ve embraced your female identity and most of all, are at peace with whatever struggles you faced in the past. It’s very inspiring :).
