People need to realize, that, before, Juan de la Cruz. there was no such thing as, Pinoy Rak en Roll. There were, immortal kundiman songs which few listened and took seriously, and a hodge podge of unoriginal imitations of American ball room music, pop, and rock and roll songs. Juan de la Cruz, specifically, this seminal song, "Himig Natin," changed all of that.This band, Juan de la Cruz, started a music revolution in the Philippines. Pepe, is now gone, Only Wally and Mike are left. In the great USA, American citizens who made lasting, important contributions , be it in the fields of music, the arts, sciences, or public service to the country are recognized, by being awarded, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In England, such accomplished individuals, are nominated and if approved, bestowed, a knighthood. Not sure if a similar public recognition exist in the Philippines, but, if it does, the Juan de la Cruz Band, in the twilight of its members lifetime, surely earned and deserved one.
Rest in peace, Senyor Wally Gonzales. Keep on rocking up there with Pepe Smith (aka Joseph William Smith) on vocals, Walter Wirth on 2nd lead guitar, Dondi Ledesma on bass guitar, and Edmond Fortuno on drums, with Rey P. as producer. I will play later the recorded song of Senyor Wally on audio gear, " Free Spirit", from the CD album produced by My. Bros. Mustache Bar (B.V.).

This band should be in the national artist category. As well as other Pinoy Rock pioneers. They started it all to play original pinoy rock music.
