"I don't know if I need a hug, six shots of vodka or two weeks of sleep..."
Words to love by.
Jude in the song is referring to John Lennon’s son Julian. Paul McCartney wrote it for Julian to console him during John’s divorce with his first wife (Julian’s mom) and courtship of Yoko Ono, who would become John’s second wife.
Thanks for that because i was about to look for the historical background on the lyrics of this song,it makes much more sense knowing this.
I was talking about this song to a friar in rehab. An alternative meaning is about Saint Jude-
In the Roman Catholic Church, he is the patron saint of desperate cases and lost causes.
There's a documentary I saw in the 90's called "Pop and Me", I'll spare you the long synopsis, but it's basically a father and son travelling around the world and interviewing father's and sons about their relationships. They randomly got to interview Julian Lennon, and it was one of the most chilling things I'd ever seen. "I respect what the Beatles did, and the message of love they tried to communicate, but my father never had any love for me." When you put into context of how Sean was later the golden child that was showered in love, and Julian the forgotten or ignored son...
So the song is consoling a child for the loss of his dad's attention and affection. The child is is severe pain Nd the song is about pain.
Jude is Julian Lennon and he was indeed in need of a huge hug. He's 58 now and probably still could use that hug .
The backstory is simple. John Lennon’s son was watching his parents split, and his father go off with Yoko. His sadness-he was six-was the impetus to this song. Paul was (and still is, I guess) “Uncle Paul.” It’s for a small child.
@@joedavis2932 no, Julian is from John's first marriage. John's second son (to Yoko Ono) was named Sean.
@@CheleBoxy thanks for the clarification, but doesnt Julian look a little asian? Lol
She's carried the world upon her shoulders...
This is why The Beatles are the GOAT.
I am 70 and grew up with the Beatles from start to, well, they just go on and on don't they. A very respectful X from across the pond.💕
Every single time, I react just as your mom does. Her reaction about this is typical of anyone who's had to deal with trials and tribulations and hasn't had immediate support available to help. This song supplies those encouraging words to comfort us.
Big hug to yer mom! She's awesome.
One of the most beautiful songs in the world 🌎🎶❤️
Jude needed a hug, the song was the hug.
"I still can't get over the fact tha Bambi lost his mom." She has a way with words. Love your mom. You two should team up and start writing lyrics.
Yep it did me the same way. I used to cry every single time!!!
Sending a hug, Queen Ma.
It's a remarkable song, a minor sound in a major key so it can rise from sadness into joy without losing that sense of where it has been and the sadness motivating it.
Dare you to try that at home and see how far you get.
Jude is Julian Lennon- John Lennon's son...It was originally called Hey Jules but they changed it. It was a song written by Paul McCartney to comfort John's son after John broke up with his mother.
Awww, Jude definitely needed a hug at the time this song was written for him.
You need to check the live version when the audience come on stage a sing and touch their gods.
She saw right through the Beatles' coolness to the emotions that inspired the song!
It isn’t a sad song at all. It’s a soulful song that transitions into a triumphant one. Fifty years later and they’re still better than everyone else.
Love her. You and your mom “get it”. Your reactions to my beloved Beatles warms my heart.
I've been listening to the Beatles for going on 39 years. It's sort of odd and wonderful that I never get tired of their music! They were the absolute best.
It isn't a sad song. It is a motivational song. It says "take a sad song and make it better". He is urging you to NOT make it bad. Love. That is what he is saying. So cry happy tears.
So on point! For me it took years to notice; since then it's just the saddest sounding happy song that was ever #1! (*that week)
As far as emotions, music is whatever it invokes in the listener. Telling them they’re having the wrong emotion is just wrong headed
@@ZoeyPaigeLunaPhD I said the song isn't a sad song. I said cry happy tears. I explained the song then hoped to cheer her up. Why are you judging my emotions?
Thank you. I was going to say that. I've never heard it described as being a "sad song".
Great reaction! Paul McCartney wrote, 'Hey Jude' for Julian Lennon the son of Paul's song writing partner, friend and fellow Beatle- John Lennon. At the time Julian was quite young and his parents were divorcing. 'Take a sad song and make it better'. It was also written as advice from Paul to his friend John. 'You have found her now go out and get her' in reference to John's love for artist Yoko Ono. At this same time the Beatles were breaking up- they each wanted their own lives. 'You were waiting for someone to preform with'. Basically it is a sort of ray of sunlight through the dark clouds type song.
Love to see more of your mum's reactions. ❤️
Jude was Julian yet also all us as well. Like Mrs Robinson. Like a story within a story and a fractal within a fractal and ripples within ripples. This has rippled back to us today the same story. It took so long for the ripples to float away at the end of the song with the super slow fade out. See the comments from Rene Chateaubriand for the full meaning of this song as this will explain the grandiose nature of this song and perhaps what you were feeling.
This was the #1 song when I was born. 🎶🎤🎸🎹
Hey Jude is a bittersweet, emotional rollercoaster. The melodies are both sad and uplifting, the lyrics address pain and offer a positive message to work through it. The shout chorus at the end is a joyous release of encouragement. Your mom felt all of that. Anyone who has a soul is going to feel something when they hear this song.
I like your mom. Does she do these often? She seemed to get it almost immediately without knowing the backstory. She is wise and you would best be served asking and taking her advice on things while you have her. Hope to see more from her.
I was 14 when Hey Jude came out. It was the most incredible song I’d ever heard, so let me say this…chosen by Rolling Stone magazine & MTV as the greatest singer, songwriter, and musician of the twentieth century and writer and singer of Hey Jude, lady’s and gentlemen I give you Sir James Paul McCartney Jr!✌️
First of all, your mom is absolutely beautiful. And this is just another example of how The Beatles have so many moods and styles and themes and ideas that they are the gift that keeps on giving even tho they were only a band for less than 10 years.
10:08 ❤️❤️❤️ I actually let out an audible "awwww" when she said that, and I'm not usually an "awwww" kinda guy. What a sweet, lovely woman.
Paul McCartney’s voice is just gorgeous.
Jude was John Lennon's son Julian who was living with his mom, Cynthia when John (his dad) left them for Yoko Ono. Paul was going out to visit Julian and Cynthia and started this song on the way there. He wanted to tell Julian all would be ok. Julian got turned into Jude. Later, when John heard it he believed Paul wrote it for him and Yoko. So the song has meaning to many. But it was originally intended to cheer Julian up.
I instantly started to cry when I saw the title of your reaction video. Not because the song is sad but because I think anyone can relate to this. I honestly believe that Sir Paul McCartney created one of the most important inspirational songs ever. I’m with your mom. I’d love to give Julian Lennon a hug and I definitely need one myself. Thank you so much for sharing. And send my regards to your wonderful mother. And before I forget, you stated that you and your mom connect with just a facial expression this to me sounds like you both are empaths. My daughter only has to look at me and instantly tell me how I feel and vice versa. Again lovely reaction!
You are a lovely sensitive soul my dear!
Tbf I think it gets all as someone always had the experience in life sometimes.
It’s a special song with special vibes
ahhhhh,,, Hugs to your beautiful Mom!!!!
Your mum has such a pure heart protect her always ❤️
This song has that reaction from people, the Beatles have the power to touch emotions with their songs! I would love to watch your mom react to more videos! James, Leave the video up, unless your mom wants it down. That was real emotion! ROCK ON!! Jeff
Big hug to you Momma
Much Love ❤🕊
back then, some knew this dope could save the world. I remember around the world live.
He took a sad song and made it bettaaaaaa! Best song ever.
Ditto. She's a welcome addition to the channel.
What is it about the Beatles, that evokes that kind of emotion.
Race, class, age gender.... they were and are the greatest band ever.
YES. !!! More videos with MOM !!!
The Beatles could bring a tear to a rock, they could also make you happy, want to dance, sit in the dark and cry! this is why in many people's minds that yes they were the greatest band of all time and here we are 60 years later still talking about them, they changed the world and in Ringo's words "it was all for peace and love" nuff said
Thanks for sharing this. Your mother is beautiful.
your Mom is a gem - Paul ,wow what kind of genius can write this on the way to comfort Julian Lennon after his father left.
Thank you Mama, Rome!
That's your Mom? I thought it was your sister! I loved her reaction! Bring her back, bring her back, bring her back! Love to you Mom!!!
It's a beautiful song.
Your mom seems so sweet. I’d love to see more reactions from her. Give her a big hug.
Another Beatles classic. Classic songs are timeless, and The Beatles produced so many of them. This is what makes them the greatest of all time… 😎
So touching. So happy you left this up here. You are so lucky to have your Mom, and she is equally lucky to have you.
We all need a hug.
Bless her heart
Love you Mom!
I first saw The Beatles on Ed Sullivan when I was 7-- saw them 2 years later, live, my first concert ever, at 9. I grew up with them. I've never seen anyone cry listening to Hey Jude. But I'm a lot older now, and this was so touching. Thank you for posting this, bro. Don't take it down. Your Mom is beautiful-- give her a hug from all of us.
I'm with you. The Beatles plane first touched down on American Soil on my 12th birthday, February 7, 1964. Two days later they made their first live appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. What a birthday weekend that was for me, and what an initiation into my teenage years !!
MAMA I'm a mama too Paul M was Just comforting John Lennons son saying even though his world is changing that he is loved and grasp on to those who love him
This family warms my heart , from a 70 year old white man , we really wanted the world to come together back in the 60s .
What a lovely mum!
more of an anthem... than just a song 😊😊
Oh I loved her reaction, it really hit her. I love this song !!!!
Hey James' mom! This isn't necessarily a sad song. It was written by Paul McCartney who is lead singing. He wrote this song for John Lennon's son, Julian. John and Cynthia Lennon were going through a divorce and Paul wrote this song for John's son explaining that things will be okay and to take the world by storm. Julian was nicknamed Jules, but Hey Jules sounded funny to Paul, so he altered the name to Jude.
Beautiful reaction. Love your mom.
This was the single that was on the charts the longest during the 1960s, except for one song: a Summer Place by Percy Faith
"For well you know that it's a fool who plays it cool \ By making his world a little colder."
I love this song,it's very emotional. That was a very sweet thing for Paul to do for John"s son, Julian.
This is my favorite Beatles song. It’s not sad… it’s an ANTHEM of support and encouragement. We all need this at times. “Nah nah nah nah-nah-nah-nah!” (Did I miss a nah?) 😊❤️
I loved your Mom and her reaction. Please leave it up.
Some Beatles magic right there
Id love to see her more often
Exactly.
My favorite song! I hadn't gotten emotional over it in years until I saw Paul sing it live in 2016. Now I tear up a little everytime. Dang it! Lol. Much love to you and your mom.
Mama Rome life is AWESOME!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thx Rome I loved your Mom.
The first line of the song was inspired by Julian, the rest is about himself and his new relationship with Linda.
First of all, your mom is beautiful! I felt so bad for her-it is such an emotional song. I wanted to give her that hug!
I really like your mom,I think she is great, please do more reactions with your mom. Thank You.
It’s always sad until you get to the “hey Jude” part… then it seems to lift your spirits. What a beautiful mom you have
I think her reaction was very sweet and she was quite in tune with the song’s meaning. I’d never thought of it as a sad song but knowing the back story now ( thanks to comment below) she got it. I’ve followed Julian for quite a while now and was so sad for him when Cynthia died not long ago. He’d stayed a faithful son and both got a raw deal from John. ❤️
Jude was for John Lennon's son, Julian. It was a song for his child. Good reaction. Bring mom back!
great reaction from your mom. i'm glad you left it up. please do more reactions with your mom. i'd like to see one with your mom your wife and you together,
I put the video on and i was picking up the remote to sit down. Your mother said three words and my whole body was covered in goosebumps. Not sure what she even said and i wasnt even looking at the tv yet. I was just looking at my goosebumps in wonder. This was something metaphysical for your mo. I think i picked up on that like once in a lifetime kind of song for her. Thanks both for sharing✌
You need to see the "live " performance with all the people in the crowd. I mean the Beatles on the David Frost Show in 1968, not the Paul McCartney concerts decades later. And hey, do what the song says, "Take a Sad Song and make it better!" I had to pick one song/one group to represent the 1960's, THIS is the one, iconic.
I LOVE your Mom!! Thank you!
Hope you leave this one up. This is what music is supposed to do. And, your mom is lovely. Hope to see more of your family as time rolls.
I would love to see more reactions with your mom. She's adorable. Give her a big hug from me.
I love your mom, keep her on! Jude was son of John Lennon. Paul McCartney wrote this for Julian, John's first son after his mom and dad divorced... Paul thought it would help him feel better.
I've always found this song uplifting. The one that makes me cry is "Yesterday". One way or the other, Beatles tunes can move you.
❤️to mum
I send a hug to your mom! 🤗❤️🇸🇪
piece and love
I Love your mom!!! Like I said before, MORE MOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh my god, I love your mum 🥰
They did what they preached: they took a sad song and made it better, better, better, better, BETTER... AAAAAAAH!
Hey - what's up guys? I don't know if anybody has told you this already but, the song hey Jude by the Beatles - Jude's real name was/is Julian Lennon. He is John's first born by his 1st wife Cynthia. Paul wrote that song for Julian when his parents were getting divorced. Paul loved Julian from the time he was a baby and Julian looked up to Paul ( and still does ) as a very close uncle.
As far as the song Let it be - the mother Mary in that song was Paul's dead mother Mary who came to him in a dream one night and inspired him to write that particular line and that particular song.
There are many more stories for most of the Beatles music. It's all out there if you take the time to find it.
I like what you're doing and thank you for what you're doing.
Take Care
Your mom is so sweet
Wilson Pickett did an awesome cover of this song.
7:45 7:47 Song dedicated to julian, lennon's son. Ashamed not of letting his son go away, after married to yoko, Lennon too sings the song
Dear Sir, I have enjoyed many of your reactions but now you bring you Mother? This deserves a comment; she is extremely charming and I would love to see more of the dear Lady. - P.S. You ain't good lookin' enought to have a mom like that, were you adopted??? - Just havin' a little fun, may you and all of your kin be blessed and thank you for the entertainment you bring me - take care, all of you x
Love seeing mom
James, your mum is an absolute treasure. Bring her back. You’re a lucky man having two beautiful women in your life. Great video
