This scene is genius. It provides homage to The Killing Joke while being subtle and still coherent to the plot. The jokes, ironies and subverted expectations were clever and hilarious too
The fact Joker is a loving and committed family man in this series just makes me so happy. It’s just such a bizarre creative decision and I am SO here for it
Everyone's talking about Joker, no one is acknowledging how funny Gordon just one hundred percent trusting Two-Face only to be let down is. And it works, because he was two-faced before the injury and still friends with Gordon, so it makes sense for Gordon to never notice his two-faced nature. Because he never has.
It was funny, but what was funnier was Two Face, the villain most main series fans feel sorry for, turning out to be a worse villain than the Joker, the villain most main series fans see as the irredeemable worst villain of the lot.
I love the fact that even though Joker is still Joker, he genuinely cares about his family "Oh thank god! You're ok...physically. Mentally, this is...messed up." Best Joker Dad line so far XD
@@totalcreativegaming6681 How would that work? Would punchline be Joker's April to his Ron Swanson? Would she be obsessively pushing Joker back into villany, or would she be (no pun intended) the comedic relief?
Maybe. Punchline could be an obsessive Joker Bro, like Duela Dent was in the newer comics, and she could start committing crimes in the Joker's name, forcing him to take action to stop her, making Joker an anti-hero and changing his character arc slightly.
The way this series deals with the arc of the „side characters“ is amazing. I mean honestly, I don’t care much about Harley herself, but everything surrounding her is a chefs kiss 🤌🏻 from the depression circle of Nora, to the path of joker becoming the perfect villainous stepdad to the plot of commissioner Gordon suffer from every single bit you could imagine to him. Perfect!
@@kingsleywelch3360 Not only about the 'fun' is my issue of state. Its the path every other character runs through. Huh, all it takes might just be "one really bad day" for someone to go over the edge but in here it also seems "one really good day" for you to start a redemption arc...
Gotta give Two-face credit though, it takes some serious balls to kidnap someone the Joker cares about. Like I can imagine easier and gentler ways to commit suicide.
@@mas8705 he cared about the cat and mouse game he and Batsy had. He enjoyed the thrill of the chase like a lion and antelope. @@ShovelMarshy Well if I recall in season 1, Scarecrow unmasked Batman in front of Joker which royally pissed him off so he doused Scarecrow with Acid from his flower lapel.
I absolutely love this so much. I love the idea that someone can be good'ish and batshit crazy. Batman series used to pretty heavily go "Villain = mental illness", and villains were "dark reflections" of Batman and Batman had to conquer his own fears and demons and show he's not like the villains, he has it together. And while that's ok, as sometimes it does take work to get better'ish, but some of us just are and will continue be somehow "out of the norm", that's just how it is, we're not gonna best our illnesses, we live with them. I ffffucking LOVE that Joker can be himself AND CHOOSE to be good. It's just really motivating in a weird way.
So I know there are an infinite amount of Jokers in the DC universe, that’s what a multiverse is, and I don’t know which “Earth” this show takes place in…but it’s one of my favorites. This version of Joker is absolutely hilarious and is still insane but positions closer to Lawful Evil rather than Chaotic Evil and I love it.
I liked at the end where the joker was all like "oh good, your mother found us" and she was TWO seconds from straight up killing two-face and joker was just like "hold up, let's not do that thanks"
Shoutout to the writers and staff, cuz Benny didn’t lie. He called Joker ‘dad’ twice before the third one clicked. Also Beth getting ratchet with an actual ratchet * mwah * that visual pun is just _lovely_ . And she’s framed in the camera like she’s about to the same swings Joker did in “Death In the Family”. After just saving his OWN family… so there’s a bit of irony there when he stops her, and it’s funny, and it highlights his character arc. Like yo, unintentionally or not, this shit was layered beautifully like a cake. EDIT: Then there’s the fact that they reference that book _again_ during the award episode. And Joker’s doing the Jack Nicholson ticker tape parade, parade float and all from the Burton Batman movies. Just, UGH. I love Harley Quinn so damn much! This show is the gift that just keeps on giving!
If the police is so weak to the point of not being able to take a clown with a gun or a smart guy who overdoses on roids, then i think the police is just a waste of tax payers money
I think she's a first responder. Those ambulance worker nurses/doctors that rush through during emergencies. Cause she met joker while being the first people at the factory explosion thing
I gotta give Two-Face some credit. He’s the only villain besides Harley and Ivy who is brave enough to try and kill the Joker. The other villains that we’ve seen in this show like Bane, Penguin and Scarecrow have barely been able to even talk back to him.
It's really nice to see Gordon have a heroic moment, going against Two Face and risking himself to save the Kid. Of course it still has a really hard time standing out next to the Joker being a more than decent Family Man
+Vincent Beton I like that moment, because it shows that as screwy and messed up as this show portrays Gordon, it still shows that he's a good man at his core, and that he'd never let a child be a pawn in a plan like this. Even more than that, he stopped hanging on to what shreds of his friendship with Harvey that he thought were left and accepted, once and for all, that he (Harvey) had fully given in to being Two-Face and was pretty much pure evil, and thus not worth saving (hence why he was about to kill him). Very good moments for Gordon in this scene.
"But killing him won't solve the problem. It'll just make things worse. That's not what you do. You're COMMISIONER GORDON, remember? You make things better." Dang, that was a Batman-worthy declaration. And honestly, remaking the GCPD is a good thing.
You know I love this because in the context of this series, Joker is being something that his rivals have never been a stable normal family/relationship.
This makes me happy because this is really what joker wanted before being pushed into ooze and turned into a megalomaniac in the first place. The difference between the first, second, and third time being thrown in REALLY makes a difference on what kind of man he’s going to become. Second time he’s somewhat normal again with a fresh and good start, gets thrown in again with the same people still alive in his life, and it changes him from a complete psycho path to a…. Little bit psychopath. One that puts all of his power that he used for himself and putting it towards his family.
Amazing that even as a troubled person, the Joker at least got what he wanted from the start, having a family, as it was the first thing he lost in the killing joke.
I loved Joker as a villain in this show. He was just so insane and egotistical and it worked really well. I don't really like when the villains are redeemed and then seen as a good guy. But if a guy like Joker can be an amazing dad and an amazing villain, then that's how you can tell the show has some good writers.

Yeah, I’m still waiting Jesus Christ to show on the news
Fatherhood, man. Changes a dude

"Your the kind of step-dad I wish I could be for my biological daughter"
Lol as a step-dad I love that line
This scene is genius. It provides homage to The Killing Joke while being subtle and still coherent to the plot. The jokes, ironies and subverted expectations were clever and hilarious too
The fact Joker is a loving and committed family man in this series just makes me so happy. It’s just such a bizarre creative decision and I am SO here for it
Joker made gordon go through a twisted ride and Gordon save him from it.
"You don't want to hurt the boy, Harvey."
👀 Harvey Dent... Can we trust him?
What happened to Rachel wasn't chance, we decided to act, we three.
Meanwhile in the Alpacahawk YTP:
"Hurt the boy Harvey!"
The 4 face s.o.b quote was freaking great
I love the fact that even though Joker is still Joker, he genuinely cares about his family
"Oh thank god! You're ok...physically. Mentally, this is...messed up." Best Joker Dad line so far XD
"Oh no it's gordon. Keep screaming son." Fucking killed me.
I'm loving how Two Face is explaining to Jim Gordon the definition of his name, as if his name doesn't screem betrayal.😂
This Commissioner Gordon is a complete idiot. To his credit though, he makes up for his stupidity by being a badass when push comes to shove.
1:52 he calls Joker dad, that's so cute!
This scene was the inverse of The Killing Joke. The Saving Grace? The Saving Punchline?
Speaking of Punchlines, be cool if they added Punchline to this series.
The healing quip
the last laugh
Perfect!
Yeah, I gotta say, I like Nora and Joker more than Harley and Ivy. They’re way more fun.
Same. I really don't give two shits about Harley and Ivy but I still watch the show to see what happens to everyone else.
I swear to god if anything happens to kiteman i am going to riot
I also loved how they added nightwing to the cast.
@@kingsleywelch3360 Not only about the 'fun' is my issue of state. Its the path every other character runs through. Hell they made Catwoman and Batsy sing in a duet about their feelings, Bane as the most goth and isolated villain of them all is the most social one and the one who tries to be fair to be everyone - and two face beeing an actual politican/villan. As Kiteman puts it: HELL YEAH
Its so ironic that it's when the joker stops being evil, that's when he becomes actually funny.
He’s becoming a great stepdad I’ll give you that. Choosing his family first truly is heartwarming
“Superman!”
“No it’s just Gordon, keep screaming, son.”
I honestly loved this episode!
Honestly, Joker taking Gordon out of his job was probably one of his best decisions. Gordon can get a job he's happy with and finally spend some much needed time with his daughter.
Watching Joker walking away with how wife and step-son is something I never thought I’d find myself seeing or typing about
I’m kinda proud of him to have come so far
Beth and her kids are the best thing that have happened in Joker's life. They are keeping him grounded and balanced.
I know, like stepping in front of a bus or picking a fight with Tony Zha.
“Actually cares about”
Can’t forget that when given the choice, he did pick Bats over Harley.
@@mas8705 he cared about the cat and mouse game he and Batsy had. He enjoyed the thrill of the chase like a lion and antelope. Yes Harley was his "romantic" interest everyone knows he never truly loved her. And in one version of an animated Batman show (dark like this one, and def not for kids) he killed someone for unmasking Batman (was it this one?)
Two-Face deserves whatever’s coming to him.
@@ShovelMarshy Well if I recall in season 1, Scarecrow unmasked Batman in front of Joker which royally pissed him off so he doused Scarecrow with Acid from his flower lapel.
I never thought I'd see an animated Joker I love as much as Mark Hamil's, but here we are.
Mark Hamill is the greatest Joker voice actor sadly he already retired as joker
@@BryanMinami he hasn’t retired. Only way he’ll retire is if Kevin Conroy does.

It's the greatest joke he can possibly throw at the world
I absolutely love this so much.
Exactly, and since Joker represents a person with mental illness; he can have a happy life; we won't complain unless he stops being funny.
Oh god this is so wholesome. I never thought the Joker could be this wholesome.
I love that not only does Joker clearly love Benicio
It’s also that Benicio clearly shows love back
Damn it I hate it how much I love this
So I know there are an infinite amount of Jokers in the DC universe, that’s what a multiverse is, and I don’t know which “Earth” this show takes place in…but it’s one of my favorites. This version of Joker is absolutely hilarious and is still insane but positions closer to Lawful Evil rather than Chaotic Evil and I love it.
I would prefer a Lawful Chaotic or Chaotic Good Joker.
@@Kira121086, you should read the Earth 3 comics, then. Joker's a hero called the Jokester. Too bad DC killed him off.
“Nope, it’s just Gordon keep screaming son. AAAAAAAA!”
-the joker
2:06 Gordon was a Freeman all alone, that crowbar is a dead giveaway.
I liked at the end where the joker was all like "oh good, your mother found us" and she was TWO seconds from straight up killing two-face and joker was just like "hold up, let's not do that thanks"
But he doesn't stop her from hitting Two-Face with a car.
2:35 seeing Joker saying that a plan using a rollercoaster is messed up is kinda ironic after reading The Killing Joke
2:29 Everyone is talking about how Joker speaking to Gordon was surprising. But this is what got me.
0:54 Wow. A dad who actually apologizes. That gives me... feelings.
Best Father day ever.
Love that we are in a place culturally where The Joker can announce he's dismantling the police department, and no one is calling him evil for it.
Means the State Police will now patrol Gotham, people outside the influence of wealthy Gothamites, at least for awhile. A savvy move really.
If the police is so weak to the point of not being able to take a clown with a gun or a smart guy who overdoses on roids, then i think the police is just a waste of tax payers money
"It's just Gordon. Keep screaming."
Dad of the Year. 🤣
“Oh o, it’s just Gordon, keep screaming son…” I love Joker now.
I love how his wife is, I'm assuming is a trauma nurse.
She about to cause some trauma if it weren't for Joker that's for sure.
I think she's a first responder. Those ambulance worker nurses/doctors that rush through during emergencies. Cause she met joker while being the first people at the factory explosion thing
That moment a comedy version that has the exact opposite message is more like The Killing Joke than the animated movie was.
I like how they have a heart-to-heart and Joker's immediately like "lol no have fun in the unemployment line"
"Oh, hi, I'm doing fine, thank you for asking!"
“Oh no it’s just Gordon, screaming son”
I gotta give Two-Face some credit. He’s the only villain besides Harley and Ivy who is brave enough to try and kill the Joker. The other villains that we’ve seen in this show like Bane, Penguin and Scarecrow have barely been able to even talk back to him.
Joker being a loving father is something I never I knew needed
But I swear to god, if they go back on it I will litterally cry
Now I think you know how Joker fans feel when the comics retcon his complex character arcs to please the fans who want to see him as only a monster.
@@KB-zq9ny eh, they don't need to complain about this show. It's a comedy that takes place in its own contained universe
You make things better."
Dang, that was a Batman-worthy declaration.
And honestly, remaking the GCPD is a good thing.
If ANY city's police department deserves to be dismantled and rebuilted from the ground up, it's Gotham City.
@@Jonkin715 exactly
You know I love this because in the context of this series, Joker is being something that his rivals have never been a stable normal family/relationship.
Given how well he does as mayor in the White Knight comic, it'll be interesting seeing how they go from here.
3:54 😂😂😂 good timing. I love this character
Honestly never thought I’d see this side of Joker and it work.
Venicio: It's Superman! We are Saved!
Joker: Oh no, it's just Gordon, keep screaming.
XDDDDDDD
You know what, its actually entertaining to watch messed up actually becoming better and helping other people.
Damn I never expected joker to be like this
Even with how crazy this show is...I somehow didn't either
3:55 DAMN, Joker’s wife is a beast! Love it!😂
"I didn't take you as a child murderer"
Batman:interesting information gordon
Amazing that even as a troubled person, the Joker at least got what he wanted from the start, having a family, as it was the first thing he lost in the killing joke.
I loved Joker as a villain in this show. He was just so insane and egotistical and it worked really well. I don't really like when the villains are redeemed and then seen as a good guy. But if a guy like Joker can be an amazing dad and an amazing villain, then that's how you can tell the show has some good writers.
If this is what it takes to keep Joker out of crime then all the power to him.
1:57 Just Screaming son aghhhhhhhhhh best Dad Ever
joker being a good dad just shows how bad of father gordan was to his daughter
I like that Joker changed, but the fact he still killed so many people and still gets to be Mayor is wild💀
This is definitely a cartoon lol
At least he’s honest about it.
No more wild than Trump being elected president.
Most if not all politicians are responsible for deaths. It comes with the job
That’s actually the most realistic part of this episode if you’re familiar with most politicians…
-It’s Superman we’re saved!
-No it’s just Gordon…keep screaming son
The Joker being a relatively good citizen while still insane, that's genius writing there.
At 1:27, you can see Joker hug Bernicio.
“You act like you care but down you just as bad as me “now that’s a good line
