  • Lyon is often considered to serve France's heaviest meals either at one of the cities many bouchons or maybe the world famous Les Halles Paul Bocuse. This city is a bucket list destination for any food fanatic. I have been waiting to visit for a very long time and it did not disappoint! The food in Lyon is extremely fatty and filling so when I say "come with an empty stomach" I mean it. We started out at the Disney Land of food in Lyon : Les Halles Paul Bocuse. Named after local legend Chef Paul Bocuse, here you can literally try it all when it comes to Lyonnaise food. After we settle down for a heavy French lunch at Lyon's oldest Bouchon. After burning off some calories around the beautiful old quarter of Lyon we tucked into Brasserie Georges for a white tablecloth dinner of Alsatian food.

Baked Alaska is a classic dessert that I even made as a kid in the U.S. It's an elevated version here with the orange liquor but basically it's ice cream at its center with an outer layering of meringue and baked in the oven. When done correctly the ice cream doesn't melt (it is sealed by the meringue) but you must also get a nice browning of edges on your meringue to be proper. If you don't know the technique to do this and put it in the oven you'll end up with milk soup on a pan

I believe it's called baked Alaska because it's baked meringue with ice cream (Alaska = cold) on the inside. The first time I had baked Alaska was in New Orleans, Louisiana. I don't think the dessert is too uncommon in the US, at least not to me.

How you butchered your cheese at the start of the video! I am crying to see that.
I would recommend not to spread your cheese like you did. Cut a small piece of cheese, put it in your mouth and then put a small piece of bread in your mouth and eat together. Or if you want to spread your cheese, which you can, cut a *small* piece of bread and put a bit of cheese on it. It must be bite-size. Anyway, glad to see you enjoying food in my country. The oysters and seafood in Brittany looked amazing!
