Decibel is practically Revolver with more pretense. As far as Metal journalism, nobody can touch Bardo Methodology or Iron Fist, when they're actually able to get an issue out. Metal Maniacs will always be the GOAT though.

It's weird seeing bands that were once underground getting the full rockstar treatment in an overpriced glossy magazine like Decibel. It's also overwhelming how many mediocre to lame bands there are nowadays; all jam packed within the pages of Decibel.
Incantation earned the rock star coverage.
Happy to see incantation getting all this attention! But yeah those mags are not appealing for me to pick up haha

I was a subscriber for over a decade and cancelled. Once they started throwing politics into EVERYTHING I had to bail. When they did the tribute to Eric Wagner of Trouble dying during covid and saying mentioned him not getting the vaccine, disparaging folks who refused to get it, etc., I was shocked (and we now know it's bullshit). They became just like Rolling Stone where they're pushing a political agenda and talking about music on the side. I'm not on one side or the other, just don't want politics shoved down my throat when reading about music. I found a lot of great music through them but I get better information/music recommendations from YT and blogs.

There used to be a record store in my town who's employees that hung out with a lot of the bands who played Milwaukee Metalfest. There was one in the late nineties where they had a certain two legendary infamous Black Metal bands from Norway play, including a certain drummer that shares the name of an early Black Metal band from Switzerland. Anecdotal yes, but apparently these band members threw out the N word more than anyone they had ever met in their lives! Also, the former mentioned drummer was on the prowl for cocaine the entire time apparently lol

Have to disagree with the Dawg of the Dead on Burzum there. Those first four albums are excellent.
But we certainly agree on those first two Cryptopsy albums. Fucking amazing. Yeah, Deeds is a cool band, but compared to Cryptopsy? No contest, in my opinion. Those first two Cryptopsy albums are death metal masterpieces.
Yeah, even Filosofem is pretty good. I get it why he doesn't like it, it's really ambient and not really many riffs, but I do love dark ambient stuff so I really like especially Tomhet from Hvis lyset tar oss, and ''"Channelling the Power of Souls into a New God" from the first album. But I can see why Filosofem is not for everyone, or even Hvis lyset tar oss.

I normally agree with 99% of what JH is taking about, however...As far as the Obituray being racist...I've been friends with Trevor Perez since the mid 1990s .... none of those guys are racist. Are they some sothern good-ole-boys that may even enjoy and ocassional off-color joke? Sure. They are nowhere near racist and are actually some of the nicist guys in metal. Me and a good freind of mine (who is black) go to their shows and hang out backstage with them every time they come through LA and they've been nothing but cool. That's my 2 cents.
But you dun seem to get the irony of it, the sarcasm in it, etc. To be WAYCYST, all that is required is to have uttered the forbidden words, like the Klike word or the Nogginer word. You don't have to worry about being a horrendous WAYCYST as long as you're throwing around words like Cracker or White boy or White girl or White devil or this or that.

Latinos hate trashy ghetto blacks too. They are pretty much universally hated.
I know a lot of people from Spain (European White people, Spain is part of Europe and where the term Hispanic comes from) and they are quite "WAYCYST".
I also know a lot of mestizos from South America. Mestizos are mixed with Asiatic (Native American) and at least some kind of White European DNA. That's what A LOT of South America is, most of Mexico for example. Not all of SA is mixed though, some are still pure-bred.
So, point being; Hispanics can be WAYCYST too (Hispanics being White Europeans from Spain in Europe).
Also; Mestizos can be WAYCYST too. I've known many of Mestizo folk who will shout out the Nogginer word when in my presence or that of others or whatever. So it's not like it's unheard of or taboo lol. Also, THERE ARE A LOT AND I MEAN A LOOOOOOT of NSBM black metal NS bands from South American, and wouldn't you know it, a lot of them are MESTIZOS (not Hispanic; which means White Europeans). And I think that's great. NS should go viral in every group of people. Maybe one day this world will be healed and fixed if that happens.
