I use both tbh. top 2 hands down.
I use Opera since ~2004/05 and never changed. Solid browser nowadays. Back then it felt like it was the best by a large margin even though not very popular.

I also used Opera for some years, but I like Firefox the most. Open Source and quicker than Chrome.

One must wonder how the suits at AOL felt about Netscape rapidly collapsing after they spent $4.2 billion on it.
There's really no need to wonder... Safe to say they didn't feel good about it, haha.
It was a stupid acquisition along with a few other dozen things AOL did at the end of their life.
Probably as well as time Warner felt about AOL
I see it as a great exit for the pioneers of web browser. Netscape put up a helluva fight against Billy Gates and the monopoly boys.

The fact that Edge still hasn't overtaken IE by the end of the timeline, despite being designed to make IE redundant, is absolutely priceless.
I think its cause some people are still running older windows versions like vista and 7 and haven't thought to download Edge and continue to use IE
My poor pc can’t afford to run win 10
I think it might have to do with a lot of companies being old fashioned and with many schools using outdated tech. Along with the fact that it is associated with IE which is known for being extremely slow among the younger generations (Basically poor advertising).
@@Cathryn39 ironic really, it's especially good on older systems because it's far lass RAM hungry than chrome and built on the same codebase

Jees! I had no idea that Opera was that old! Never heard of it till the 2000s. My favourite browser is Waterfox. I installed it on my gaming rig years ago. I believe it was meant to be Firefox for higher performing machines. It had a bunch of extra metrics and goodies.

Edge never took off because IE was STILL installed on most people's computers, and I can speak from experience that a lot of businesses require their users to sign into company sites on IE because they can't be bothered to have someone code a web page properly.

Why are there so many comments about opera, are they actually paying for bots to post comments on yt video lmao. Obvious reason why you should stay away from opera
I'm surprised Firefox never took the lead. About ten years ago, it really felt like almost everyone was using Firefox. When I switched to an iMac from an XP machine around that time, I begrudgingly had to give up IE8 since it wasn't available for OS X. However, I was pleased as punch to find out that there was an add-on for Firefox that changed its appearance to be identical to IE8 (as well as bringing in all the features that were completely unique to IE8). After seeing such customizability, I was sold on Firefox for quite awhile after that. Newer versions of Firefox, sadly, feel a little dumbed down.
Over this timeline since 1996, I went from AOL internal browsing, then on to Netscape, after that, to IE, then Firefox and finally to Chrome where I remain to this day. That more or less defines the timeline here, but the AOL internal browser is missing from this video and I know it was popular because there were so many people on AOL and outside browsers while connected to the Internet on AOL required winsocks to run and that was a complicated thing to accomplish for average users.
I'm sorry to see the decline of Firefox, which is my favorite browser by far. I like the fact that it respects its users' privacy and it has good features overall.

ive been using opera for almost ten year for the only reason that 13 years old me once saw some fanart of what dresses as browsers could look like and loved the red gown they had made for it
I know the ones. The pics were amazing and opera was especially pretty
I mean, that's quite a good reason
GX design so handsome 😁
Can you send a link, please?😄
Hm. It is impressive just how old opera is and now it never, ever took off even slightly. The new Opera GX is actually really cool. Just a shame that Opera is now chrome based.
Opera gx=bloatware cringe
@@beemo4 So is like most web browsers... Pick your poison.
@@beemo4 tf do you mean. It's the same as all other browsers with a couple extra features. If having ram control and cpu usage control is bloatware then idk what to say
@@beemo4 the old opera was a virus, now its just the best browser

This video suddenly made me very interested in Mosaic. (I don't think the percentage for Mosaic is correct though after a certain point.)
Safari is personally my favourite browser, but in this video IE is my favourite browser, in fact it’s sad for IE to end in fourth place and it’s also sad to watch Crome take over!
I love how people still use Internet explorer more than Edge, it was supposed to replace it.😂
For me its because older systems that are front end Web based do not work on edge or chrome.
IE and Firefox (with some tweaking) was the only option. Sharepoint 2010 as an example

Yes bro
well I'm sure edge 2.0 which is chromium will surpass IE tbh I still use edge 2.0 as its got a lot more features than chrome and uses less ram and can do basically everything chrome can sense its now chromium so compatibility is no longer a problem
That’s bc in schools most of the time children use internet explorer cuz of the old system they provide
