Yes to the backup power, if you expect to have outages. I live in Osu where we don’t have outages often…but if I did, I’d be looking for alllll the backup options lol.

The lizard is our friends I remember reacting like that when I first saw one in the house but once I was told they get rid of the insects I welcome them in my home anytime. The spray will do more harm to you. I miss the ones in my home now.

By the way, I did not include yet, the cost of land and building materials to build one’s house,which must be secured to avoid theft and bought in bulk to stop the increase of inflation cost and security of all material by a private sector not to first meantion a well sound educated mentors team to first of all keep everything on track.

To move to Ghana, or any other country for that matter, one needs to figure out a sustainable means of livelihood.
You DONT need ALOT of money, you simply need to return HUMBLE. Changing your mind about 'LUX- living. There are 54 countries in the Motherland, Ghana 🇬🇭 is clearly under attack because they had the largest influx of AA..... there's more to this than meets the eye. PEACE

I never worry about those little lizards when in Nigeria , because the scorpions usually eat them before their population grows too much 😊😊. Last I heard some months ago $1=GhC10 which means you have spent $9,000.
The exchange rate today is 1 usd to 13 ghs..

Just a suggestion, maybe hang a painting over the area that was for the TV, then when you can , you can still hang a TV if you wish to do so. Getting that area filled and repaired maybe more hassle and cost that you may want to avoid! A nice piece of art can be a focal point and be enjoyed in that room. PS am learning a lot about the process here in Ghana. Thank you. May your investment into this come back to you abundantly! 🙏🏽❤️

Good you started your house project at the time the currency was about 5 or 6 cedis to a dollar. You probably would have spent 3 to 4x what you actually spent

Talking about the spending, I must say you've done very well and should be proud of yourself. Have you considered how much you would have spent renting close to the same apartment? It's often lost in our analysis but you just feel proud you've spent quality money in an investment which appreciates in value on daily basis. Keep up the good work, you will feel more proud when all is done. I can very well relate to this.. Now I look back and ask myself why I didn't start early enough. Be proud of your self. The car will come very soon.. You have survived without it for the time in GH though it is big inconvenience. After this, many other blessings would come your way. Press on Dela.

I would love to know what part of UK you were living, because if you hire a cleaning or maid service you have to tell them if you would like specific things to do other that basic cleaning, like cleaning windows, refrigerator or laundry, so I'm wondering what the comments about always putting down Ghana workers when UK, US or the western countries or not perfect in any way. I'm not from Ghana or an African country but my four father's or from Africa as a black women.
I don’t think it was a put down comment at all. It was made in reference to 1 person not an entire people.
Dela is right, here in Ghana, you have to be very specific when giving instructions on cleaning or anything else for that matter, you think it's only 1 person, but it's a lot of people in my experience

That is not a lot of money when you're building an apartment, aren't you creating an income stream? Which is an investment. I guess you felt better, now you can breathe now.
It was more of a renovation. I hadn’t anticipated the cost to be that high.

Della you’re way too hard on yourself you’ve spent just over 8 1/2 thousand pounds, considering all the major construction work you have done driveway landscaping kitchen knocking down walls plastering painting decorating furniture fixtures and fittings you’ve done pretty well to only spend under 10 K. Remember you need to speculate to accumulate. Now when you do your next apartment you won’t have to spend as much and hopefully you will save money by getting your soft furnishings from local markets et cetera to get them a bit cheaper. You made me laugh when murdering the lizard why didn’t you just use your dustpan and brush to sweep it up and chuck it out or put a paper under it and let it go free in the garden. It’s Gana there everywhere you remind me of my dad LOL, he literally has a heart attack at the sight of a lizard and he was born and raised in Gana LOLLOLLOL.

I was in Ghana for 3 months with my family. First time living in our house and they kept coming.
I was told that those ghekos are called landlords and should be left alone.
Well I replied by saying that I don't know when they bought the building materials for the house so we were obviously not sharing the house. I then went into ninja mode instead of screaming the house down.
I just got reminded how I behaved when I first got there
