That sensor is crazy man - they originally tried to make it look closer to a Bayer sensor and so it didn’t have as great of sharpness but the colors are beautiful! Great video again man and thank you for the settings.
There is nothing in the first gen of X-trans what looks like Bayer sensor.Take Bayer sensor of same generation from Sony and you will notice difference especially in sharpness.Due to removal of the AA filter the resolution is about 20mpix compared to Bayer sensor.The sensor has also different output than X100 which is Bayer 12mpix.
I appreciate your video it was candid into the point. I purchased my x pro 1 back in the time when they were transitioning from the that model to the second generation X pro 2. I love the form factor of the Fuji cameras because I am from the old school and I like having the exposure triangle available also it is easy to use. the images from this camera are fantastic.
Great that you are giving the older Fuji’s some love! I run with 2 of these xpro 1’s and a 100v. Just loved my initial xpro1 so much I bought a second one! Just love the colours of the jpegs.I’m old school (used to slide film) where what you took was baked in then and there. I don’t screw with my pictures too much at all…just love what you get from these pro 1’s😀
I've had an x-pro1 as a main digital camera for the longest time. I finally got myself the pro3 but I have absolutely no doubt the pro1 is a valid second. I haven't even watched the whole vid yet (at the into only) but I can assure anyone it is a perfectly fantastic camera if you use it as a digital rangefinder style camera. Even before the funky pro3 hidden screen, that's how I have always worked for the majority of my shooting. It's a bit of a slow boy and I never use AF anyway so thats no issue... regardless, the images you get out of it are just amazing 9 years on. Might not look as great as a modern equivalent when printed and placed on a gallery wall but how often does that happen.
The OVF is better on the pro1 than the pro3 btw. It can reasonably frame the 16mm 1.4 where the pro3 has arrows in the corners of the ovf frame indicating the image is outside the range of the OVF. Very odd.

Great point about the little surprise you get shooting with the ovf! I try to not look at images on the back screen with my fuji and having that difference you described in what you remember shooting and what you get when you unload the SD card is special man. Really adds to the user experience with these cameras - unless the photo comes out worse than you remember... that's not cool

Just hit subscribe! Bought a Good condition Xpro 1 at the beginning of the year. Love it. Have the Xpro3 and X100v also but reach for the Xpro1 as much of the other two. There are like new Xpro 1’s popping up for great prices and plan on grabbing one. Setting up one of them for full time B&W sims and the other old color sims. Agree on the OV being the favorite. Clean and simple.
The combination of two is going to be killer. I was blown away at how enjoyable it is to shoot still - even with its slower operation. Haven’t felt it holding me back at all
Owned and sold lots of different Fujifilm Bodies and a Leica Q2 MONOCHROM. This is still my fav camera body. Bought one since new when launched and yes also bought another 2nd hand one few years ago for collectibles💙😬 Stick it with XF35mm F1.4 = magic. Mostly use the XE4 nowadays but sure won’t let this baby go
The paint job is looking good already, nice! always was disappointed that the xp1 never came in dura black/silver. Still got my xp1 and the x100. Realy like both of them for their great sooc jpegs, feeling, controls and ovf!
Still rocking my two bodies. I’ve paired one with a Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f1.4 and it’s a formidable combination. The other body I use XF lenses. I personally find the autofocus fine for me and the OVF is a win with native lenses.
Yeah it has held up VERY well over the years! The OVF and framelines being useful for the 18mm is a huge draw for me as well. One of my major peeves with the Xpro 3 actually
@@segzeeman7356 yes it sure did, sadly. No framelines but the entire OVF window is roughly the frame for 18mm (though you get a little bit more than what you see usually). I actually talked about this in my xpro 3 review. - the first video I ever recorded and posted here. Check it out!
That is a great point. Luckily it works for me and even more so since I stick to the OVF. When I owned it before I did have one of the +1 screw on diopters but I heard they are easy to lose
Great video, I bought the X-Pro 1when it first came out, then sold it for an X-T2, I later re-bought an X-Pro 1 which I sold again. Last year I bought my 3rd which is going nowhere, the problem for me with this great camera was the lack of diopter adjustment. But I got a Nikon correction lens and I'm now loving it. I love the silver look of yours, how did you get the (albeit work in progress) look ? Maybe you can post a video of how you did it ?
Thanks! The currently look is just a bit of careful sanding. I still haven't gotten back around to this project camera but I hope to relatively soon and will definitely detail what I learned once it's done. Right now I would say do as I say and not as I do and don't sand the camera when it's fully assembled like this. I haven't experienced any issues, but I do know there is risk of introducing dust into the body and onto the sensor this way. I have a plan to fully disassemble and finish the job properly I just need to buy one more tools, the paint I want to use, and then find some time lol
Bought one when it was released, thought back in time "WTH is with AF, turtle speed".My Leica M9 was faster to focus then x-pro 1.Few years later I bought another one for 550 euro new in the box and still using it with X-pro 2 and X-pro 3.Had many cameras in between (last 35 years) but never one as x-pro 1.Compared to the later models think that output and especially operation of the camera, menus and build is far better as well as output of that sensor.You are right about color and IQ, they mess around with newer camera's where everything has more contrast and is also more digital (non organic).If you like film output in digital format there is nothing on the market for that price which come close to it.
Agreed I was really surprised in how much I like it in hindsight. One big plus I forgot to mention is how the X-pro 1 handles the back LCD off view mode better than current models. The fact that you can have the view mode set to OVF only but still get to the menus using the back LCD is fantastic. My X100F doesn't do that and it drives me mad. Instead, the x100f will display the menu in the viewfinder -- even if you are in OVF mode it will switch to EVF and force you to use the viewfinder to change settings. which is silly. Love the way the X-Pro1 handled this!
Great video man! Your probably one of the few people who had there hands on an X PRO 1 and a M8 , how do you compare the 2? Does the X PRO 1 keep up in terms of image quality? I commented on your M8 video, I sold my M8 because of the crazy repair issues and grabbed an M6. I do miss the film look from the older digital sensors .. and the XPRO 1 has me looking 👀
I haven't done a good side by side yet so I will reserve judgement for now. I'm sure either are solid for most use cases but let me sit with both for a while and I can come back and let you know my thoughts.

Xe1 has this sensor as well and is way cheaper right now. It truly is a mini x pro1 i have em both and if you dont need the ovf then the xe1 is a great choice . Nothin beats the original Xtrans
I've taken some of my favorite pictures on an x-e1. Absolutely agree with you that it is a steal if you can find it. I still prefer my OVF but if I couldn't get an x-pro1 then I'd be perfectly happy with an x-e1
The X-M1 is an Xtrans one sensor and even smaller than the X-e1. It's kinda crazy that it's a little baby x-pro1. Fantastic camera. I have it along with my x-pro2. When I don't want to take out the bigger camera I'll grab the x-m1

I had an X100F but it got stolen a few years ago. It was my everyday and holiday camera. Compact, great JPEGs, not so suspicious. But yeah, the burglar had the same thought I guess.
This is only my opinion, but…as someone who purchased an X-Pro1 at full price when it was first released, it is difficult for me to find a lot of positives for this camera. As a long-time, dedicated Fuji film and digital buyer, the poor AF performance, poor low light focusing, lens focus seeking, slow file write to card, lack of viewfinder diopter settings, and all around features that were less than Fuji’s digital competitors…resulted in a lot of well-deserved bad reviews for this so-called “flagship” camera. Many buyers felt that they had been cheated by Fuji, and got rid of their X-Pro1 soon after the purchase. In 2022, this is a camera that is absolutely worth five hundred dollars in excellent condition. However, in 2022, this camera is not now, nor was it ten years ago, worth the $1700 we paid for it.
I would agree with that sentiment. Performance wise it wasn’t worth the msrp; however, it offered a unique shooting experience. I’m sure that with something, just not what they were asking. I returned my Sony Nex-7 to get the xpro and was very happy with that decision - which I think was more of a reflection of the 35 1.4 I paired with it than anything else.
@@Lonnie.G I agree completely with the beauty of the X-Pro shooting experience. After ten years, I have traded the X-Pro1 toward a used X-Pro2...in which Fuji seems to have corrected the various issues that made me sad a decade ago. 🙂
Truth be told I was originally looking for an X pro 2 when I rebought the X pro 1. Couldn’t find one at a decent price at the time though. It def seems like a great upgrade. Enjoy!
You could say that about a lot of Fuji's initial releases. I had the X100 and X-T1 release and gave them both up because at that time I found them annoying to work with given the price. Now I find myself trying to chase down these older Fujis because I prefer the older sensors and don't mind the slower AF speeds.

I wasn't happy with the slowness....so I ultimately traded both the X100 and the X-Pro1 to KEH toward an X-Pro2. I like the 2. My current Fuji cameras are keepers...none with bad memories or disappointment. 🙂
I enjoy my X-Pro1 but I find it annoying that it is very slow writing to the SD card even if I use fast cards. Maybe it is my copy since I bought mine used years ago.
Yeah it probably is slow to write but I haven’t really noticed it since I primarily shoot it like a slower film camera. Back lcd off, OVF only. So I don’t find myself noticing but I see how it would matter if your checking pictures or in the menus right after

Ahh I used to own the Xe1 and loved it. it's everything that is good about the X-Pro 1, minus the optical viewfinder -- nd it's a little more compact. great camera -- especially paired with the smaller Fuji primes
Manual focus using OVF:
1. Look through ovf
2. Press scroll wheel with thumb
3. Manually focus lens (peaking magnified area)
4. Half press shutter button returns to OVF framelines instantly.
5. Compose and shoot.
I'll have to play around with that. Sounds feasible if you are shooting subjects that afford you the time. Thanks

The OVF on the pro1 is definitely nice. Funny enough the framelines are way brighter than my x100f

I love my X Pro1 over my XT3. BTW, circular Nikon diopter correction lenses from the era of Nikon FE/FM etc fit the X Pro1 perfectly.
I believe Fuji also makes some diopters too. I have one in box kicking around here somewhere

I found the lack of a view finder diopter is a small minus for me. So the OVF works out great and the EVF less so.

How did you make your xpro1 to silver? Painting or scratching ?
It was sanded down as of now. I plan to sand it again using an air eraser and then painting it with either cerakote or duracoat
