The title of this video is making me love it. I totally agree. Leo being the seventh wheel but still holding everyone together is part of his character. He feels like he needs to be in a relationship to fit in but that's rubbish. LUVLEO!!! HATECALEO!!!

Thanks for appreciating my video! And yesss! Despite being the seventh wheel, Leo manages to keep the team together which is why he's a very important character. ❤️ and I agree! Leo doesn't need a romantic relationship to fit in. He has himself and that's all he needs.

Leo shouldn't have a love interest because I am mentally married to him

Calypso is legit my favorite character in Percy Jackson but in heroes of Olympus she has a bit of a character shift and I can totally understand why as the promises Percy gave her were never followed up on. I truly believe the only reason calypso and Leo were matched was because Rick riordon wanted to follow up on calypsos story but didn’t know how to include her that on top of believing Leo needed a live interest I believe is why they were paired up the relationship feels bland even though Leo and calypso are some of my favorite characters separately I don’t think they complement each other that well

Hii, there! You just summed up my thoughts. Yesss Calypso does have a character shift in the Heroes of Olympus and becomes justifiably bitter because of the unfulfilled promises she had from Percy. With that, I like your idea that Rick realized that we needed a bit of closure on what happened to her which is why she was added in The Heroes o Olympus but didn't know how to add her well which is why Leo was given a last minute love interest.

He don't need a relationship, he needs THERAPY! Or someone really good for him that would help him with his traumas and problems tbh

Hi, there! Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I AGREE with what you mean about therapy or someone there to support Leo because he's been through a lot and deserves the help he needs.

    GODS THIS IS SO REAL
as much as i love calypso and leo separately, i feel like they coudlve stayed friends and maybe left leo single in writing. It was all so rushed, and i feel like it could work out better if we had a book or separate thing expanding on the two developing their relationship, but alas we got a simple timeskip and BAM suddenly theyre kissing. It feels so out of place with Lightning Mclean, Percabeth and Frazel (is that their ship name??) having at least a whole book to develop their friendship before dating.
I understand having to introduce calypso back into the plot, because yeah it would be a loose end that bugged readers, but it feels like it's been done wrong. If they had to date, i think it could be written as a relationship doomed to break up, something to trigger more growth in Leo and Calypso separately if done right. They coudlve also been written as friends, signifying Leo maturing into someone who doesn't constantly seek validation and support in dating (what with how he's flirty with pretty much any girl he meets in previous books, feeling like he's left out just because he isn't dating anyone) It'd also show how Calypso learns to develop independence and grow to be her own person, interacting with others who aren't just people she immediately falls in love with before leaving her. She does fall for him in a while, allowing him to leave the island, but maybe they realize they aren't good for each other and stay as friends.
Overall, its so sucky when writers have to create relationships just because. I feel pretty much the same about Tyson x Ella. As cute as the ships are, they're underdeveloped and feel forced. Where's the representation for the single people man :( /j

Wow- that's a lot of thoughts! Thanks for sharing them. Honestly, I agree with all of them. Leo and Calypso's relationship, as I mentioned in my video, was a rushed romance and I agree that we could've gotten a bit more buildup between the two of them before they got together. Alsoo yess. I do think that an established friendship would've been nice to see between Leo and Calypso because that would give a bit more foundation on their relationship especially if Rick really wanted them to end up together romantically. I love the idea you added about how Leo would slowly realize that he didn't need romance to validate himself because that would help his lack of self confidence and be more comfortable in his own skin. He's constantly seeking reassurance from others and learning to personally develop would've been an ideal route for his character. Overall, a slow burn romance would've been better and more realistic to see for the two of them.
