43:11 A question mankind has pondered for centuries "Why climb a mountain with a two-way radio and a spool of wire?"
I did my first sota activation recently. Likely it will be my last one for some time as there are no summits anywhere near my home.
I'd have spent more time but my family started down the mountain and I didn't want to be too far behind them.
Getting to the summit was the accomplishment (5 and 10 year old kids).
Being graciously allowed 30 minutes to set up a radio and antenna to make some contacts was just a cherry on top.

Your comment is almost like the meme I saw with a picture of Abraham Lincoln saying, "Don't believe everything you read on the internet!" 73 de KA8VLW, Ken, Michigan

Thanks Thomas, and it was good to see you and have a chat at Shelby. I usually set up by the fire ring in the clearing just above where you were, but I may go in the road where you were next time. Easier for longer wire antennas there! Enjoyed your adventure! Ken, W4KAC

Yes, it was great seeing you at Shelby, OM! I think the first time I met you, you might have mentioned about setting up at the fire ring. I did set up very close to that spot the first time I activated Bakers Mountain. Have fun out there in SOTA land! Cheers, Thomas

I am completely in agreement with you with the sounds of insects, and especially cicadas and the south!
When it is nice and warm here in Ontario they start buzzing, and I think of those days sitting on the porch with my parents in South Carolina!
    Love your videos!

Hi Thomas, I cut the wire to 67ft before tuning. I have never measured the end result but I would guess 65-66ft would be the final length after I finish trimming your antenna. Best 73 Steve MW0SAW

As always nice and inspiring video. Hower for me that CW is a little too fast, just started learning CW this year and now at max 15 WPM. Working hard to get speed up. 73 de ON4MGY Nic

Yes, I realized when reviewing the video that my CW speed was set a tad high. I didn't notice in the moment, but I typically run about 19 WPM and QRS for slower operators always. Thank you!

One thing about CZcams I like with listening to code is you can click the gear icon on the upper right. Go down to playback speed and try at .5 or .75. It slows the video down. I watch at 1.5x hehe. Keep up the good work

You can slow it down. I watch and listen to these CZcams videos using Firefox on my iMac. Other browsers or other operating systems may or may not let you do what I do, but I can set the speed to 0.75x, 0.5x, or even 0.25x normal as well as 1x so youn can in effect make everyone QRS. I'm a QRQ guy so I can go in the other direction and I watched the hiking part of this one at 1x, and the QSO part some at 1.5x and some at 1.75x (trying to improve my receiving speed). There's 2x as well, buit I'm not that good yet.
