    I love how you see things from a positive perspective as that is how I live even though I'm terminally ill, have lost both my parents who are my only family over the past 18 months etc etc. It's awesome to see how you live as it's fascinating, I live in New Zealand. I only just discovered your channel tonight and I can see you're good people so I want to thank you as your videos have distracted me from some pain making it more bearable. Never underestimate the number of people you have a positive effect on just by being your beautiful selves. Xx

    I lived in rural Alaska for 1 school year. My parents taught there for a yr when I was a teen. It was ft. Yukon. I come from a country town in western US. We do lots of hunting too. I love moose and I agree venison has its own flavor hard to compare it too other common meats. I live venison. Salmon was amazing up there I got to live there during salmon run. Here at home we eat a lot of rainbow trout.

    I don't know how much they talk about supplementing vitamin D in Alaska. That is something that is talked every year here in Finland where we get equally short days in the area where I live. Up in north the sun doesn't get up at all. But when you get low on that because of lack of sunlight that causes depression. I also have bright light lamp that I use on mornings that helps some. But I have also noticed that it is not as bad when you have the snow because it makes things lighter. Sadly here in south Finland the winters have started to be more what we call black winters where we don't get the permanent snow coverage on the ground for the darkest months. That usually also means that the sky will stay gray and you don't see the sun even those few hours because of that. From some reason the colder temperature clears the sky too and you are able the see the blue what makes everything brighter lol.

    • @LewisFamilyVlogAlaska
      @LewisFamilyVlogAlaska  Před 2 lety

      The doctors definitely talk about taking vitamin D. Almost everyone is should be taking a vitamin D supplement in Ak. Chelsea just found some in gummy form and thats how she has been taking them. We also have a happy light, we need to bring it out this year. The snow adds so much more brightness to winter time. It makes us really happy when it snows. Sadly we have not gotten as much snow as we used to either.

    One thing about long days in Alaska is I quite often forget to cook dinner until I realize it's almost bedtime. Winters are quite the opposite, it gets dark early so dinner gets cooked at 3 pm. I laugh all the time about that. I've had a box of pilot bread crackers in my food storage for 15 yrs. I don't like it much but it'll suffice if I need food. Lol it's been an adventure living here for the last 21 years.

    • @LewisFamilyVlogAlaska
      @LewisFamilyVlogAlaska  Před 3 lety

      You are very right. In the winter we just want to hangout and go to bed after dinner. In the summer it feels like we have so much energy to keep working after dinner. Oh man. I feel like every house in Alaska has pilot bread whether you eat it or not.

    I agree with venison taste gamey like lamb...not a fan. Have you tried the sun lamps to help with your season affective issues? I have family in the north that have had some success with them during long winters like the one we just had. ... and on that note, did you guys have a crazy bad winter this year like we have had in the lower 48?
