I set my bullet journal on fire!? 💜 Chemistry themed bullet journal setup

- Yep! Get out the matches (and maybe a fire extinguisher?) because we're doing some bujo burning 😝 but seriously, in our February bullet journal setup we're going with a Chemistry theme as inspired by Periodic Table Day on Feb 7th 💪 we'll be using tea staining and edge-burning to make the pages of my Archer & Olive journal look vintage and throw in some sciencey decoration 👏

Hi team! 💜 Hope you enjoyed the setup, even if it was a little outside of the usual! It was fun getting to try some different techniques and get outside (lol) of my comfort zone 💪 Would love to hear about the theme you're thinking of going with for the month ahead! 😄
Wow, this theme works so well. :o I love that the decorative text and illustrations are on brown pen rather than black, it blends so nicely with the aged look of the paper, being subtle but still being readable.
Thanks, that's what I thought! Worked better than trying to do it all with black like I originally planned 💪💜
Even though chemsitry gave me a lot of bi-weekly dread in high school (I was mathematically and scientifically challenged!), this spread was so nostalgic for me - it gave me MAJOR school history project vibes when I would want to tea stain pages for diaries and posters and all sorts of things for
💫REALISM💫
Also we had a chemistry teacher in high school who had big 'let's go outside and set fire to things and see what happens' energy which definitely wouldn't fly today but this video really reminded me of her! All that being said, I love how this set-up turned out. One of my 101 things for 2023 is to do an 'out of my comfort zone' BuJo theme and you've really inspired to maybe think of something I can utilise tea staining for which would definitely make my inner child very happy! x
It was a lot of fun! 😄💜 I was actually super impressed with how well it turned out too 💪 very much outside of my comfort zone as well 😝
@@JashiiCorrin my mind’s been ticking this afternoon and I’m thinking for the first month of ‘spring’, March (it’ll still be bloody freezing!), a kind of Hobbit/LotR vibe with tea stained, torn pages!
@@WithoutAnAnchor omg that’s such a wonderful idea! I’m too scared to tea-stain my pages 😅 but I’d love to do a LotR theme at some point this year!
I was wondering how this went. I watched the livestream until the end when it went out and like "omg please don't let her burn her house down."
Lol yeah my camera ran out of battery; I thought it was charging! 😝 but I’m glad we didn’t quite get to the burning on the stream, otherwise my office would smell like smoke 😅
Right!?! Same!!
As a scientist- this made me so happy that I'm so excited to actually try a new theme in my bujo ! Thank you for all the great theme and content!!
This is insane!!!! I NEED A WHOLE JOURNAL LIKE THIS!!!! I REALLY LOVE HOW IT TURNED OUT!
Haha I would also like a whole journal like this 😝💜 glad you liked it!
I am *obsessed* with this tea stained look. I am rewatching how you did it with a view to staining a whole journal as I just adore that old treasure map kinda vibe 💚💜 🗺️
I was planning on doing this for a Pirate/treasure map theme!
It'd be perfect for that! 😄💜
It makes me so nervous to even contemplate setting up my February pages before January is over - I'd much rather set the pages on fire! This theme came out amazing and I love it so much!
Thanks! 😄💜 yeah, the hardest thing about setting up the next month before the current month is over is when you’re using daily logs and you need to kind of guess how many pages you’ll need to finish the month off 😝 hopefully I have enough!
I loved this. The idea of themes based on random holidays but not major ones is cool. And I've done tea stained pages and burnt paper in junk journals and art journals but not my bullet journal. Very inspiring and it came out beautifully.
the tea staining is so effective! I've made my own tea stained paper and stuck it in for decoration's sake, but not done something like this. The lighter coloured notes are a great touch, makes it look like the ink aged.
That’s what I was thinking! 😄💜 plus it meant that my scribble notes didn’t have to look all that nice because they blend into the page well, hehehe
This is such an amazing theme! Not using the black pen really gave it an authentic touch.
Livin la vida of chaos by setting your actual journal on fire!! My anxiety was through the roof when you literally put the match up to your torn pages. Payoff was so worth it though, those dark edges are magnificent! Well and truly... lit ❤🔥🔥
I think this spread has now become my favorite!
and now I want to tea stain everything! I LOVE how that looks!!! the burnt edges were perfectly done, too. A+++!!
Thanks! I'm totally with you on that; tea staining might be my new thing, lol 😂
Whoa! So nerdy 🤓 and cool 😎
Congrats! Most creative BuJo theme I've ever seen. 👏👏
That set up turned out amazing! It definitely has the look you where going for! And I loved the kind of netflix documentary vibes in the beginning of the preview when you set your BuJo on fire 😂 Great video - as always 🔥😊
This is such an amazing theme! I love everything about it. I know it is not your usual color palette, but it came out amazing. I hope you enjoy using it. I am definitely doing this theme.
Thanks! 😄💜 I quite like the more vintage palette even though, like you said, it isn't my typical! 💪
I forgot how beautifully done this theme was! ❤❤
Thanks Karen! 😄💜
I LOVE this! I'm a Pharmacist so this brings so much joy to my soul!
Aww yay 😄💜 Glad you liked it!
If anyone gets bored with their bujos definitely look up junk journals a lot of crafter have great ideas that can be incorporated into bujos. And it helps w/ my perfectionism. Trying to not give a heck actually turns out better than I would've done Trying to be perfect.
AND Making junk journals that's actually have purpose besides art. Or making my day to day life into art is just *chef kiss* for my soul.
You inspired me so much to work hard in my bullet journal. From different spreads to fun themes. I even bought myself an A&O bujo to try it out.
My themes this year are also novel holidays.
I always enjoy your videos. I hope you'll keep making videos because you are so much more genuine than other bujo CZcamsrs.
I love how you don't do anything halfway, Jess 😂 This turned out AMAZING and I can't wait to see it at the end of February 💜
Haha 😂 that's a very good description of me, lol 💜 glad you liked it!
Best thing I can say for adding water to 160gsm notebooks is multiple layers are 100% the way to go. Seriously, whilst doing multiple layers can be time consuming you can get way better coverage and colour brightness. I’ve added 5+ layers and it hasn’t bled through and I’ve done one wetter layer and it gone straight through.
This was such a creative set up!! I love the different elements, and the tea staining and burnt page edges looks so beautiful!
Thanks! 😄💜 I think they worked together well 💪
I absolutely utterly adore this theme 🙏 this is so pleasing to look at 😌 definitely a huge inspiration for my February theme!
OMG this is insanely creative!! It looks like a Leonardo DaVinci notebook!!
Thanks! I was thinking that would make excellent decoration if I were doing a wider science theme rather than just Chemistry 💪
So glad the whole burning thing went well in the end. Your theme looks so good 💜x
Thanks Natasha! 😄💜 I’m chuffed with how it turned out 👏
This is so cool!!
You are incredible!!! I am amazed AGAIN that you have found another new & exciting way to create your monthly bujo pages!! Sensational effects!! everything worked so well together! I love how you added your chemistry expertise! 😉
Thanks Deanna! 😄💜 Glad you liked it!
It looks great! ⚗️🧪
I love this theme! I feel like it came out beautifully!
I absolutely loooove this set up theme! Makes me want to do one that's history themed (my college degree) with appropriate doodles or notes. You nailed this one
Oh this would be PERFECT for a history themed setup! 😄💜
Wow! Love this so much!
Aww thank-you! 😄💜
For me, it would be a big "trust the process", but the end result look incredibly good. The brown pen and the detail in thin lines make it feel liek a well used research journal you might find in the library with a thick layer of dust. With the burnt edges, maybe a survivor. I love it.
You can also iron the treated pages. I just love this!
I was thinking that I might try that! 😄💜
10 out of 10 for creativity!
Oh wow Jess, this turned out absolutely amazing. I never thought of actually staining the pages in my journal. I always make the paper and stick it in - maybe I'll give this a try for my potions themed month coming up later this year. Great video as always, thank you :)
Thanks! 😄💜 I think the staining technique would be awesome for a potions theme! 👏
It looks soooo cool! Not sure the pages of my bujo could stand water but this turned out so well! 😍
I lovelovelove these techniques! I have a journal project that I am going to try this on! Thank you so much for sharing. 💗
So good! Loving the theme
Thanks! 💜😄 Glad you liked it!
This was fantastic! I love the vintage chemistry vibes so much!
Thanks! 💜😄 Glad you liked it! I think it turned out pretty dang well 💪
Freaking awesome! Love the whole look!
Thanks Amy! 😄💜
Love it! It turned out so nice!
Thanks! 💜😄
One of your very best. I love it!
Thanks! 💜😄 Glad you liked it!
Perfect blend of journal creativity and science experimenting😍
Thanks Melanie! 😄💜
I LOVE THIS IDEA!!!!!
Thanks Michelle! 😄💜
This is so different I love it!!
Thanks Darcy! 😄💜
It turned out so good!! I love it!!
Thanks! 😄💜 Glad you liked it!
I love how the tea stained pages turned out!
Thanks! 😄💜 I’m super chuffed with them 💪
Using the sand color for the decorations was spot-on! It looks amazng!
Thanks! I think it blended nicely 😄💜
Hehe you did it! My Gosh this turned out so beautiful! I really love the similar color pen for all the background doodles, really added a nice effect. My favorite one so far!
Thanks Natalia! 😄💜 I was a little apprehensive at first, but I think the lighter colour pen was a good choice 💪
I LOVE this theme idea! Congrats for the creativity!
Thanks Florence! 💜😄 Glad you liked it!
This setup is so cool to look at!
Thanks Anna! 😄💜
❤ Hands-down, that is my most favorite spread I think I’ve ever seen you do!
Thanks Debi! 😄💜 Glad you liked it!
I just love this theme it's gorgeous!! 😍
Thanks! 😄💜
Wow ! This theme turned out amazing ! 🤩🤩🤩 great job Jess !!
Thanks Arya! 😄💜
That turned out so cool! Love the look of the paper. :)
Thanks! 💜😄
Very cool!👏
Thanks! 😄💜
This is so creative and I love the end results of your setup!
Thanks Gail! 💜😄
This is SO GOOD, omg, this entire layout is a chef's kiss
Haha thank-you! 💜 I'm quite pleased with it! 😄
WOW!! This is the BRAVEST set up I've ever seen. What a rock star!!!!
Haha thanks 😄💜 was certainly outside of my comfort zone!
Love this set-up. It looks like it took a lot of time. So creative.
Less time than some of my setups! But the tea staining part in particular was a process 😝 the paint-dry-paint-dry cycle was time costly 👏
So cool! The whole theme turned out really neat!
Thanks! 💜😄
As always, incredible.. I love it.
Thanks! 😄💜
I absolutely love how this one turned out. Using the sand-coloured liner was such a good choice, it works so well!
Thanks! I like how that pen blends better into the background and lets the "main" text stand out 💪
This is gorgeous.
Thanks! 😄💜
Well.......This is awesome. A challenge. I ❤️ this. Better than great job.
OMG that turned out amazing! The tea staining looks so good 😁 high five! 🖐
Thanks! 😄💜 I think it worked super well!
Great theme!
Thanks! 💜😄
This looks amazing, and so unique! Great job!
Thanks! 😄💜
This is so amazing, I've been searching for a chemistry theme on bujo and this fits sooooo good, thank you very much 💛💛
Oh yay! Glad you liked it! 😄💜
This was so much fun! I've always wanted to do a treasure map theme and this is exactly what I'm going to use your tea-stain and burning method for. Totally inspired thanks for sharing with us.
Most welcome! This would be PERFECT for that kinda theme 💪 😄💜
In my head I also have a science theme planned for my bullet journal this year (maybe around July) Thanks for the idea!
Most welcome! 😄💜 Glad you liked it!
I love this! Definitely going to try in my own journal but make it 'Frankenstein' themed and use quotes from the book. This is great
Oh that sounds awesome! I think it would work well for that 😄💜
Fabulous! 'nuff said.
Haha thanks! 😄💜
amazingly creative! Love to watch and aspire or dream of what I may someday be able to accomplish. Thanks for sharing
Most welcome, and glad you enjoyed it! 😄💜
This theme looks so good!! I love the burned edges. I did that once in my bujo, but my theme was treasure maps & I used water color to color the pages. The tea color looks much nicer, though! The water colors got way too dark in some spots lol I might try that theme again with the tea-stained pages instead. 🖤
Looks fantastic, Jess! You're really taking your creativity game to new heights. :-).
Haha thanks Kimberly! It was fun trying different techniques 😄💜
Ok, Jess, this is freakin' awesome! I'm seeing sketches of da Vinci on the tea stained, torn, and burnt pages! 🤎🎨
Fo’ sho’ that 👏 I was literally thinking the same while I was setting this up 😝 it would look so cool!
Instead of burning the edges, you can use Tim Holtz Distress ink - the dark brown ones - i dabbed my stamp pad on the edges but there is a spray kind now. I think dabbing is more controlled though. I did it for 50 bday invitations and was pretty easy
Loved the theme so much definitely recreating it in future months 💜
Glad the burning thing went well I was like please don’t burn the house or the journal
Would love to see how you would make weeklies for this theme
Thanks! 😄💜 I’m probably going to continue with daily logging rather than doing weekly set ups, so they should look fairly similar to what I had in January, just without the ducks haha 😂
You are so brave!!! Wouldn’t dare try this in my journal but thoroughly enjoyed watching you create this setup. Like watching something forbidden 😅
Haha it felt that way! 😝 I'm now wondering what unspokenly illicit materials I can use in future, lol
absolutely stealing this idea!! I love how you used your own expertise/background in chemistry; as an english literature teacher, I think I’ll do the same thing with more of a literature theme!! thanks for the inspo!!
Instant coffee works great too if you want varying shades of brown.
I was considering going with coffee, yeah 😄 glad that works well too!
This is sooo cool :o
I searched through several of your videos before I found this one, because I spotted these pages in another video and was really hoping for a tutorial - and there it is!
If you’re into this style I can highly recommend ‚distress ink’ ink pads. They make it very easy to weather pages without getting them wet or warped.
Burning the edges however really finished that look, I‘ll definitely try that out. :D
I had several panic attacks and shakes of my head watching this, but I do think it turned out wonderful. It was very creative. It isn't something you'll ever find me doing, but kudos to you.
I'm super in love with this layout though I'm watching this in April.
I was watching your multiple journals video and had to look up how you made these February pages look so good. I watched the live but we know what happened there so here I am!
Haha glad you liked it! 😄 it was a fun something-different to do!
@@JashiiCorrin working up the courage to do the same to my journal. Thanks for all the inspiring ideas!
oooh that wasnt so bad! yay
Haha yeah 😄 it was a bit of fun, not too much of a mish 💪
Lmao I voted to let you burn it during your livestream! It surely brings a new cool (or hot?) effect on the edges.
Wow! I really like the look of the ripped pages. I'll have to do that someday! Funny thing: I didn't know you can tea stain your actual journal. I always make special pages for this and glue them in and when I saw your process I feel a little bit dump :-( Very awesome! Thank you!
This is so great! The next time you want to burn the edge of the pages, try using a candle, it is more controllable than matches. Thanks for all your posts, I'm enjoying your work very much.
Thanks Nancy! Good tip 💪 now if only I had a candle 😝
This looks really cool and you're very brave lol
Haha thanks! 💜 I was chuffed there wasn't any real journal carnage! 😄
Was waiting for how it'll turn out after the live session...wooww it looks really old and like some ancient hidden book with secrets 💯💯💯😋😋😋
Haha thanks! 💜 I love having this little "aged" section in an otherwise very white-paged notebook!
This is so badass! I want to do this in mine! I'm using a Dingbats one right now, but I think the paper will hold up
It should be okay, yeah 🤔 at least the Dingbats pages are also not stark white so any spaces left off would be less noticeable 😄💜
@@JashiiCorrin absolutely true!
Love this, I often use Tim Holtz Distress Oxide vintage photo to ink my edges. The burning looks nice, but I'm not coordinated enough to do that technique.
That’s fair 👏 I tried to use markers before settling on just burning the paper as it was the most straight forward way for me (and my art skills, hahaha 😂)
Wow this looks awesome! The tea staining is a lot prettier than the distressed oxide ink, if you ask me and I'm glad I was part of the chat that made you burn your journal 🤣 🔥🔥🔥
I reckon it's prettier too! Haha, glad you were part of #TeamBurnIt 😝💜
Wow! It turned out very nice. I hope you still incorporate this style into your pirate (treasure map) theme.. & yes, I added the map part for future inspo! Excited to see what you do as far as that’s concerned!! (If you aren’t into the burning, I just used my ink pad around the rough edges)
Cheers to a new month (that didn’t take 52 days to arrive.. unlike February 2021 😂)!
I 100% reckon it'd be PERFECT for a pirate theme 💪
I did a pirate theme in my bullet journal this month, and my calendar is a treasure map, on (fake) parchment paper with burned edges :) I had to burn them inside because my matches kept blowing out outside, but was super careful :)
This is so fun! I love a good tea stain. I’m inclined to try tea staining with a treasure map.
For consistency in posting, have you tried the business suite app? It’s a free scheduling all for IG and FB content minus reels currently. It has a calendar on it too so you can see how often you post and it has some fun functionality. I have a small business and use it and recommend it to all my business friends to make their lives easier.
Oh nice, I’ve used it for one-off FB posts, but not for IG yet 🤔 I’ll have to investigate this! Thanks Morgan 😄💜
@@JashiiCorrin you’re welcome! It also gives you insights which I’ve found very helpful to grow my business. Have fun!
So cool looking! However, if I was to do this, I’d use a black or dark brown ink pad and a sponge to apply a burned look to the edges. Knowing me, if I used matches I’d end up needing to use a fire extinguisher! 😂
Haha yeah I did try with some pens first and it didn't look realistic enough with my skills 😝
