  • Hydrofoils are wings attached to the hulls of boats. They were first invented 160 years ago.
They have traditionally added significantly to the speed of boats. But their development has often suffered from cost issues.
Now though, a combination of new designs and materials, and a new wave of powerful electric vehicles,
Could bring a renaissance for hydrofoils that make boats "fly."
    We spoke to:
Jean-Baptiste Souppez, Snr Lecturer, Aston University
    Mikael Mahlberg, Candela
    Eric Laakmann, CEO, Vessev
To explore the history of hydrofoils.
And how the new developments could lead to greener, faster electric vessels.

It's great to see hydrofoils making a comeback. They've always fascinated me, and the potential for modern applications is endless.

Surprised they don't take advantage of ground effects

lets hope the eu invests a lot of money in this future technology, because of less pollution. Also the laws should be more interesting for hydrofoils like higher speeds then regular boats.

just a glider on top, and actually fly, with an airboat
