Actually according to the art of her leaked LC, there's good chance that Firefly was never inside the armor at all. The leaked LC shows her inside a capsule that keeps her real fragile body alive, and she was controlling the robot body remotely just like Herta. The reason why she can transform in Penacony was because Silverwolf hacked her inside the dreamscape, thus bypassing the rules.
Blade's story also confirmed my theory because it was said that he was pinned down by an automaton, rather than a man in suit of armor

It's interesting how this particular text makes more sense now than before.
When it first came out, while we get told it was Sam instead of Blade sending the texts, it's still a bit jarring and makes you wonder why "All of you will die here" Sam is using cute stickers.
But then you know it's actually Firefly and suddenly it makes a lot more sense why there's cute Pom Pom stickers.

That's probably not even a headcanon and actually the case with her since she said that she's basically withering away irl. It's either her suit is her life support or she's like Billy from outlast where he's controlling the walrider while being connected to a bunch of machines. Either way, it's sad to think that she's basically only alive when connected to a machine
