There sooo much you can get out of college, what’s the point of paying so much if you’re gonna be drunk/high for half of it and hung over for the other half? There’s nothing wrong with partying and drinking, but if that’s all you wanna do you might wanna take a step back and address the possible addiction lol. My best friend and I always joke about how we’re gonna drink so much when we turn 21, but when we get to the point when an alcoholic beverage is in front of us, we completely chicken out. I think, for me, I’m just scared of becoming an alcoholic bc I have a lot of family that are/used to be alcoholics. My grandpa was an @bu$3d alcoholic and did drugs all the time, so my grandma had to raised their 6 kids by herself. My uncle basically followed in his father’s footsteps. He was very @bu$!v3, so my aunt left him with their daughters and now he currently lives in a really crappy trailer park and my grandma still buys him everything. It’s honestly just sad when you witness stuff like that bc then you’re scared to become like them

I fully agree with colleges discouraging heavy drinking. Party schools know that's a big reason students attend their school and think it's better to encourage safe participation versus abstinence. I have plenty of friends who I can have a fun time with without even mentioning alcohol or drugs. Find friends that align with your values and aren't just there for a good time. I picked mine and we were best friends for maybe the first month and then red flags were everywhere. I was basically walking on eggshells the whole year and she still found issues with me. We ended up going on a club trip together and she and her boyfriend viciously berated me for something small I didn’t even do in a room full of other people we knew. I’m now on the verge of quitting this club because of her because she makes me so anxious and fearful and I’m definitely kicking myself over this. I’m better friends with people I came upon by chance than I am with my ex roommates (I was in a quad) so I stand by the random roommate path.

This is honestly very good advice. Tysm. I’ve watched so many of these, but none of them tell me the key things to know about college. I’m entering my 2nd year of community college in a couple days, but I’ll apply those tips when I transfer to a university. I’m 19 rn and I’ve never done drugs or drank alcohol. I’ve just taken the tiniest sip of a mimosa when my cousin came over our house to be with us for her bday before we went on our Christmas trip last year (I was already 18), but that’s literally it. One of my friends in hs (we were freshmen/sophomores at the time) asked if I wanted to take a hit of her vape pen. All my friends were passing it around behind the gym, but I was sick, so I used that as an excuse not to take a hit of her vape pen. My best friend and I were the only ones who didn’t do it, and I’m honestly glad we didn’t. That friend with the vape pen didn’t do drugs or drink before the bf she had at the time. He convinced her to do all that stuff and he got her addicted to vaping. And then it had gotten so out of hand after they had broken up. I really felt bad for her. My best friend and I hated him for what he did to her.

I so appreciate your honest sharing of your experiences based on your upstanding morals and perspectives. You obviously have a really good head on your shoulders and the confidence to uphold your standards, I commend your parents! Your views/perspectives are a much needed voice regarding the topics you covered. Some people have to learn by first hand experience what they want or don't want to be doing with their time at college, but some just know there are experiences that just don't need to be experienced and you choose a different path (sometimes it feels like a lonely path, but going to frat parties and getting wasted can be a false sense of belonging too) and figure out how to live and have a good time without following the crowd. Good on you! I will definetly be sharing your video with my rising first year college daughter.

I'm only 17, I'm going to college next year and I'm so ready but also so scared. I'm a lesbian in a very homophobic household (parents won't talk to me ever again if I marry a woman, "you're not my daughter", "you really are just a filthy little lesbian", lotsa trauma there) and I'm really worried that when I leave I'm going to like, overdo it. I'm afraid that I won't know what to do with my newfound freedom and I'll end up doing stuff I'll regret later just because I CAN. Just to piss my mom off. And I don't want to overdo it just to piss my mom off; that's petty. But I have like two weeks between when I turn 18 and when I move out to college dorms, so there's not much time to like, figure out my boundaries and stuff. I don't want to fly too close to the sun like the story with Icarus. But also... God I'm so sick of being treated like dirt. I turn 17 tomorrow actually; August 12. 366 days till I turn 18. I know I'll be okay though.

I just sent this to my 18 yr old. She is moving into her dorm tomorrow. ALTHOUGH we have always talked to her about saftey, do's/don'ts and just overall life saving skills and morals, 🗣I'M SCARED TO DEATH!!! I feel like she is ready, but I just hope she stay true to herself and stick to saying NO to whatever it is she does not want or is not comfortable with. I KNOW your parents are SUPER proud of you! Keep flying high, sweetheart! I'm proud of you!❤️

I love that you have brought up the older men chasing after the younger women. I was in the military and it's basically like college/highschool. Alcoholism, I knew people doing cocaine and acid on the weekends, STDs were everywhere people were cheating all the time. But the thing I saw the most was these young girls And they were getting into relationships with older men who would manipulate them lie to them, etc. I to this day have not seen large age gap relationships in real life that go well. It can happen but a lot of the times older people are trying to manipulate younger people.
I'm not going to say I was innocent but I never got into dating relationships with the older the crowd. I did my little twister game and that's it.
