I was glad to come across this interview because I was going thru exactly the same thing Kelly was going thru after 35 years of marriage. And this song was that turning point for me as well. I was able to consider all the incredible opportunities I'd had that many don't get to experience such as living, working, studying and traveling abroad; taking cruises. And we remain in contact. The song made me realize how truly blessed I'd been. It's difficult to explain, but the it was like a switch light that took me from the darkness of just putting one foot in front of the other to the light of beginning of feeling content and making plans concerning my future. So yeah, I realized the pain of the divorce was much more short lived (though still took about 3 years to get over) than the years of opportunities I had when I was married. I will be forever grateful for The Dance.

I couldn’t agree with you and Leanne more. My parents stayed together until I was 17, and honestly it was very bad. They argued a lot, my mom was depressed, my dad spent as much time away as he could, and they both ended up cheating. It was not a good example for myself or my sister, and we would have been better off if they both had someone they were actually happy with and loved.
That is very true. Sometimes a marriage doesn’t last and it wasn’t because it was bad. Life changes and people change and grow. With that you realize that the other person you wanted to be with forever really isn’t that person. And then other times it’s because the marriage was not going well. And when it ends it’s a sigh of relief.

I felt the same way about my abusive relationship as well. I have healed and am continuing to work through the trauma. However, I also was gifted a dynamite soulful daughter as a result. And so I change the lyrics a tad in my karaoke version to fit my story specifically, and it has healed me too. Bless this song, Garth and Kelly.

I couldn’t agree with you and Leanne more. My parents stayed together until I was 17, and honestly it was very bad. They argued a lot, my mom was depressed, my dad spent as much time away as he could, and they both ended up cheating. It was not a good example for myself or my sister, and we would have been better off if they both had someone they were actually happy with and loved.
That is very true. Sometimes a marriage doesn’t last and it wasn’t because it was bad. Life changes and people change and grow. With that you realize that the other person you wanted to be with forever really isn’t that person. And then other times it’s because the marriage was not going well. And when it ends it’s a sigh of relief.
Good grief is her publicist posting all this nonsense so people will feel sorry for her? Newsflash Kelly: you're not the first person to get divorced.

I felt the same way about my abusive relationship as well. I have healed and am continuing to work through the trauma. However, I also was gifted a dynamite soulful daughter as a result. I had a song, that I’d listened to for about a decade, all of a sudden hit me like that. I started ugly crying right then and there. 😭 Problem was I was driving at the time. I almost crashed my car because my tears were obscuring my view of the road in front of me. Luckily I made it home safely. Nobody was injured, no property damaged. 👍👍
