      Mark, do you know how the nest of the golden sparrow looks like? I haven’t been able to find a picture or a good description of it. But I think they have build a very massive nest below the roof netting - with a lot of small branches. More heavy build than I have seen with finches. 🤔

    • @markdbowman2807
      @markdbowman2807 Před 2 lety +1

      Hi torben, I've not seen the golden song sparrows nest in real life, although I have a lot of cage bird/aviary books, I've found a description of them in 'birds keeping a mixed collection' by Irene Christie, it says : a large untidy nest is constructed, which is dome-shaped with a side entrance, gorse bushes often provide popular sites. Pairs only go to nest if left strictly alone, so do not inspect the nest, 3 to 4 eggs form a normal clutch, hen incubates alone, 16 days incubation period, plenty of insects, Greenfood and sprouted seeds when rearing, : that's info in the description. 👍. Mark.

      @TropicalAviaryBirds  Před 2 lety

      @@markdbowman2807 Thanks Mark! Very good info. And on the nest itself it sounds like the one I found. These days I only see the male or the female. Usually, the follow each other closely - so I am quite sure the are on eggs somewhere. Thanks for the help - hope to be able to show you some chicks soon 😆🤞

      It is an amazing bird, the bleeding heart dove. It weighs just around 180 gram and is 30 cm long compared to the diamond dove with around 35 grams and 19 cm. So the bleeding heart is more like a “real” dove - but an interesting species.
